Made a reservation, we were promptly seated at our time. Service was attentive, food and drinks delicious!
Everything and everyone were wonderful!! Can’t wait to go back
The server and the manager who really explained the wines were both excellent. The food was not as expected for the price. I don’t think I will be back for dinner but I will stop in for a glass of wine.
Should have known it would be a long night after the server asked if we would like rolls, and then he never brought them. Then there was the problems with obtaining the MAX rewards complimentary birthday entree. On the plus side, he was the first in this area to actually know how to properly decant our bottle of wine. So overall, just an OK evening.
Great place for great food. Nice staff and a terrific after work meeting place for a fine mix of people
I was shocked at how things have gone downhill at Max's. I spent the night bragging to my date about taking her to the "fanciest place in Springfield" just to be flat out embarrassed. Right from the start it was a joke. Hostess couldn't find reservation and then when seating us decided to clear the dirty tables and bring the plates with her while we were seated. Waiter has personality of a wet mop and provided service like a Hess gas pump attendant. Food was "OFF" badly. App of calamari was rubbery and greasy. Entrees were horribly overdone. Filet Mignon was well done like a hockey puck. Side of Asparagus was limp. Lobster Risotto was barely edible. The mussels were so bad my date refused to finish her meal. Soooo disappointed from what i used to say was the best restaurant in Town. I don't usually write reviews but this was such a disappointment that i had to share my experience. Honestly, close to $200 for what we received was deplorable. I hope Max Group makes changes to the Tavern or replace it with one of your other restaurants bc they should be as embarrassed as I felt.
Everything was good.loved our dinners .waitress was attentive and enjoyed the evening
Over rated and overpriced.
Birthday. Awesome time!!!
Great dinner. Service was on point!
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was delicious!
Max Tavern offers consistency in their food. This is a busy place at lunchtime with a combination of business people and tourists visiting The Basketball Hall of Fame. The booths are comfortable and the servers are almost always excellent. It is very loud between the music being played overhead & all the people talking but that’s to be expected. Convenient location with lots of parking.
Food was excellent as always. However, they need to bring back the cheese garlic bread which was always a staple.
Max's Tavern is an outstanding restaurant, one if the very few in this area.
The waitstaff are helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. Our food was perfectly prepared, and delicious.
Always great food in a excellent setting. Service is outstanding!
And general the food was very good. I ordered one dozen Bluepoint always cheers and they were very fresh and tasty. On the other hand we got the chicken overcooked.
We were disappointed in Max's the last time we were there several months ago. The food was just okay. This time everything was excellent. The steaks were flavorful, tender, and cooked perfectly. The short ribs were fantastic. Service was prompt and attentive, without being intrusive. Something to keep in mind when ordering - the salads are huge and can easily be shared by two, even three people.
Excellent staff and food!
Great location. Service was exceptional. My waiter actually ran out to me in the car lot as I left my charge card!
Max's Tavern does live up to its ambiance and fresh, quality food. They have a special of the day which will usually reflect the type of food they serve. Their wings are to die for. Rolls are warm and crisp. Their scallops are amazing and their signature burger is mouthwatering. The steaks are definitely their stand-out dish, perfectly tender, seasoned and cooked. I feel, though, that for the price of the plate, there should definitely be more food on the plate. I am a huge potato fanatic and their mashed potatoes were simply underwhelming and a disappointment. The potatoes were bland and needed more salt, they lack any garlic as they are promoted on the menu, and they are not as creamy as potatoes usually are. Their fries, which are not fresh but are rather frozen, are way better than the mashed. Overall, all would have been 5 stars had it not been for those small, yet key pieces of a restaurant experience.
Max Tavern is one of our favorite restaurant. It is always a fantastic time. We highly recommend it.
This is the Premier restaurant in Western Massachusetts! In our opinion, Wellfleet oysters are the best available - and Max's Tavern is one of very few locations which regularly have them on the menu - and the oysters and their presentation are superb. Our filet mignon was done, to our pleased surprise, exactly as requested: her medium rare was just that, and my rare was outstanding.
Wine by the glass is often not memorable, but that served at Max's Tavern was a fine complement to the filet. Oh, yes - another fact which brought a smile was the presence of Laphroaig Scotch on the drink menu: too many restaurants do not even know the name Laphroaig!
Finally, the dessert was larger than so many others I have received, and its taste was a perfect cap to a very superior dining experience. The only thing we encountered which surpassed the quality of our meals was the unbelievably great service by Alicia. She delivered a warm welcome, attentive service, and a sense of humor which would endear her to even a grouch.
Was there anything disappointing? Only the fact that some - in fact, most - of the patrons were dressed overly casually for such a lovely establishment. I am aware that I am both old and old fashioned, but 'dressing for dinner' was a worthwhile tradition, way back then.
Seemed to be some confusion that night, they seated another party of 4 under our reservation, followed by a couple conversations about it. Then our salads and apps all came out together with our entrees, which was confusing as well, but they also took the two salads off the bill to compensate for any confusion. Food was fantastic. Our server was excellent.
Visited Max's for my mother birthday, which we mentioned to the server. Service was good however we ordered a second round of drinks prior to our food coming out and were not served the drinks until we were almost done with our meals. It was early so the restaurant was not busy but I suspect the bar area was. The server unexpectantly brought out a platter with Happy Birthday written on it and some sorbet which was a nice surprise for my mom. However, I was surprised that we were charged for it...it was a nominal charge but we should have not been charged for something we did not order. It would have been very awkward to say something to the server so we let it slide.
My mother enjoyed her meal and the experience which is what we wanted
Went in for lunch with clients, waited a good 10 minutes for our waitress to come and take out drink order. A 1 hour lunch turned into 2 hours.
I wish I could say nice things about our experience, but it was not memorable enough. From the waiter (with a bit too much attitude) to my salmon entree (supposed to be medium but arrived way undercooked) to the meatloaf (looking like it was made days ago and so unappetizing). The CT Max restaurants are much better overall ... hopefully it’s an isolated incident since Max dining is usually top notch.
Another great meal at Max's Tavern -- we shared typical steakhouse menu items: oysters on the half shell, wedge salad, center cut ribeye, creamed spinach, fries, and gelato for dessert. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked.
Shout out to Bryan, who is our favorite server at Max's. Always delivers great service!
We arrived early for our 7:15 reservation and you were able to seated us right away. We were greeted right away by two young ladies with a smile. Our food took much longer than expected, and it came out over cooked and cold. We were disappointed because we drove 45 minutes just to eat at your restaurant.
Service and food were awesome. We loved the special menu items and were surprised our shared dessert was served in separate individual portions. It was great! It was loud by the kitchen and there was a lot of server traffic into the bar area where we were seated.
The food and service is good but the prices are too high for the area. 2 entrees and 1 salad for $93.00. No appetizers, drinks or dessert. I can get just as good a meal elsewhere for less. For that reason it would not be a recommendation I would give.
I think is was just average and over priced the service was just ok
For a 50+ dollar filet mignon to come out on a plate with absolutely no attempt at plating(I.e. a hunk of meat and a ice cream scoop of potatoes) absolutely isn’t worth the price.
Was excellent- we started at the bar and the bartenders were great and then headed to the dining room. Excellent food and great service
Valentine’s Day. Not the best time to go out to ANY restaurant, but Max’s Tavern has been our choice for two recent VD dinners. Both times they had difficulty supporting our 8pm reservation and sent us to the bar to wait 15-20 minutes. Service was fine, but since we were most likely towards the end of the rush, it was not their “A” game. On a positive note, when there is the rare but inevitable mistake, corrective measures are quick and painless. A short visit by a manager with complementary desert as an apology was a nice recovery. I love the ambiance and menu, but will try to return on a day without a V in it!
Great dinner with attentive service.
I've been several times and will chalk this poor experience up to being Valentine's day. However, I'm disappointed nonetheless. The lobster bisque was lukewarm, we were denied substituting a chopped salad for the offered Caesar salad and the steak was tough. Overall, the only benefit of going out on valentines day was not having to do the dishes.
What made it comically bad was the couple across from us who should have gone to a motel instead of a restaurant. I would have appreciated the manager if there was some attempt to rein in the ridiculous display of these love birds.
Best Valentine’s Day dinner I ever had!!! Will return.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was short staffed and our server made no attempt to hide her displeasure in having to work extra hours. She was bordering on rude. Our meals were very good. 2 in our party had the double cut pork chop. It was extremely delicious. I had the lobster risotto. It was ok. The seafood was overcooked.
They had a prime rib special.....they could not cook a medium ! Sent back once....came back almost the same .....rare as can be. First time there I got ripped off with their bone-in rib eye. Tiny cut not worth over $40. Creamed spinach has no cream....just a dried piece of cheese on top. Buyer beware
We used to love Max’s! Haven’t been in a while. It sure has changed. First of all, the menu has changed and is very small and limited. Not a lot of choices. Secondly, our service was awful. We were told four times “will get your bread right out”! We had to ask for our drinks twice. Our appetizer came before our cocktails did. My husband asked for lemon and lime in his vodka soda....didn’t have either. Asked waitress if she could bring him one. Again, asked twice and finally grabbed a different employee walking by for it. Head chef was yelling out orders in a very loud voice over and over “put a lobster on, out a filet on, over and over”. I’m sorry but when I have a chance to go out to dinner without my children with my husband, I don’t care to hear yelling. Overall, highly disappointed in the entire experience. We had heard from others that it had gone down hill but just couldn’t believe it, until we saw first hand. Very disappointing. :(
