It was a very busy day. The server was trying but the kitchen could not keep up. Other visits have been great.
restaurant was convenient to our venue, food was tasty, but a bit over priced. don't anticipate coming back to springfield, so most likely will not return. i think we could have found comparable food at other establishments in area. it was good food, but not anything special....
We had a wonderful meal, food was excellently prepared and service was spot on.
Very good food, nicely trained wait staff, adjacent free parking; Food overpriced.
Tonic water was flat. Mussels smelled a little old and about ten didn’t open when cooked. Not the first time I’ve been here and previous experiences were a lot better, so I’ll chalk it up to a bad night. Our waitress was a trainee, but was awesome!
We arrived on the evening of a major exposition at the Eastern States exposition area. The result was
an overwhelmed kitchen and serving staff. They had run out of prime rib, the sole reason for our visit on a stormy night. On learning of this the manager very generously offered to buy us our substitute entrees. A terrific gesture! Food was very good although very slow in arriving. Wait staff was cheerful, helpful and
doing their best given the unusual circumstances. We'll be back on a more "normal" night for those prime ribs.
Oysters and wine were great. Had to send back my French onion soup because it was not hot. Once it came back it was very tasty. Service was very good.
My family and I went there for Mother's Day. We waited an hour and ten minutes for our food. I had to keep purchasing Shirley temples to keep my kids calm while waiting for the food. When we got the food it was cold. The waitress offered to take the food back, but I didn't think my kids would be able to sit quietly any longer. We ate it anyway. My son wasn't too hungry he had already filled up on Shirley temples.
When a waiter brought the check I noticed that three meals had been comped. I thought that was nice, but thought it was strange that a manager hadn't come to my table. Then my waitress immediately came to the table within seconds of me receiving the check asking if it was all set. My husband paid the bill. The waitress then asked if the manager had spoken to us. My husband said no. The manager came over as we were leaving.
I did feel a little funny about how my table was handled. I felt as though we were being shoved off. I had three handicapped people at my table. All three people behaved exceptionally in the restaurant. I'm proud of them.
Excellent service. great food and cocktails. Vegetarians happy. Steak lovers in heaven. Scallops were perfect. Great night out!

It was my first time there. Everything was excellent from the hostess to the server the food and the ambiance . Looking forward to another visit .
Been coming here for 10+ years. Cooking and temperature of food has declined. So has the maturity and experience and knowledge of the servers. Scallops way overcooked. Steak cold. Train the people and provide oversight. Sometimes good sometimes bad. Inconsistent. Apparently some ate good on kitchen and some aren't.
Max’s Tavern is always a good experience. The food was very good and plenty of options. Service was pleasant but slow except when it was time to pay. The server stopped 3 times to take the check within 10 minutes of putting it down. Usually I’m fine with a quick wrap up on the check but we had not come close to finishing our drinks because they had taken so long to get.
The food was wonderful. We visited for my son’s Birthday, and the restaurant wasn’t full thankfully.
The service was decent but we waited a very long time for our check.
I’m not sure why since the restaurant was only 1/4 full.
We keep trying this place because the food is so good but the service is sometimes lacking.
We went for my Birthday last year and they forgot to put my order in. For such a high class restaurant I would expect more consistency.
I have been going to Max's for years. I actually enjoy all the Max's restaurants.
I definitely recommend Max's Tavern for the food but the service can be a bit off....our server started off on a good note but mid way through our experience things went south. We ordered salads/soup and when finished, or needing to pack remains, our server fell short. She did ask if we were finished but when I asked for a wrap up, she completely forgot about us....so when entrees were brought to the table, we all had to juggle plates and find space. Proper timing of each course should be an important step in training servers...
I will obviously return to Max's because I always enjoy the food. Hopefully our server will be a bit more seasoned next time.

I ordered a salad w/ blackened salmon. The salmon was excellent but the salad wasn't fresh. The croutons tasted stale and the lettuce looked brown. It was also overdressed. This is not what I'm used to from Max's Tavern. I had the same thing the previous week and loved it. Must have been a different chef. The hostess offered me another main course or a dessert, but we were going to Symphony, so there was no time. She promised the dessert to me the next time I dine there.

Waitress was more concerned with a table of four men spending a lot of money. She kept forgetting simple requests of lemon for the water and then bread with salad. It seemed like my wife and I were a bother to her to serve. Food was very good as usual. It was just unfortunate that we were unlucky with the server.

We made a reservation for the dinning room but when we arrived we were sat in the bar area. Service wasn’t the best as it was just a bartender and one server to a very packed bar area.. server was very nice just busy. Food was very good.

Unusually poor service on a busy week night. Server forgot to bring utensils repeatedly with appetizers and a following courses, didn't decant our wine or offer to, left us chatting amongst ourselves way way too long with no interaction at all, and even when we were one of last tables at the restaurant (everyone else left because they had been served!), seemed to ignore us rather than ask if we wanted coffee, etc.

A bit loud, seating was relatively uncomfortable. Food was overpriced and my burger was not cooked as I asked.
The server was pleasant.
I guess the biggest issue value.

Chose Max's for it's location right by I91 - guests coming from north and south. Ended up being a very enjoyable experience for the 6 of us. Service and food were good and we were seated in our own little room, so it was quiet and we could hear everyone at the table.
Nice restaurant. Service was fast and on time. Our waitress always kept an eye on us and made sure we were satisfied. Food came in course after course on time. The only thing that we felt it was not a good choice was our table. Which was near entrance. And food and drink menus were being placed by the back of the seat of our booth which was lauder and distracting. We also felt a breeze as people entered then restaurant.
Besides that, it was a great night. Food was very tasty. We'll go back to this restaurant any day of the week!
Always an excellent choice for a business lunch meeting. Waitstaff is friendly, professional and well trained. Linen napkins, quick service and nice menu. While not inexpensive, always a good experience and good quality food and that makes it worth the money.
We had a great Easter dinner at Max's. It's my favorite place to go for a steak. The food and the service are always top notch
Easter Brunch was delightful. The food was delicious. We had the crab cake benedicts and the steak and eggs. The steak was cooked to perfection. The Bloody Mary fixings Bar was a lot of fun. Service was excellent.

We are always satisfied at Max’s tavern...during the dinner hour the noise level does accelerate so we try and dine early! The staff is cordial and the food presentation is artistic with excellent flavors!
We came for Sunday supper. This visit was perfect. I could see that they had stepped up the cleanliness, attentiveness of the waitstaff, and the quality of the food. The manager was able to recommend a delicious bottle of wine, the food was served as ordered, and everything was tasty and hot. Thanks Max’s for paying attention to the details.

We had a great time! The food was delicious and the drinks were amazing... our server was very attentive. We did have dessert.. the cheesecake and Banana foster... and shared! Its definitely a hit... we will be back!
