Awesome restaurant!!! Great food and a very cool atmosphere!!!
So fantastic. They did an amazing job with the decor, so authentic. Great food, atmosphere and fun to learn more about the tiki culture. With 3 separate bars and individual tiki rooms, you can go there many times and have a different experience each time. Fabulous cocktails and an amazing aged rum collection too!
We went to this place 3 times in 2 weeks.
Our first time was the best, with a terrific wait person, wonderful cocktails, great music, enchanting ambiance all combined together in a magical experience.
Our second time was in the atomic lounge, which we loved except for being seated at the bar next to a friendly stranger who dominated our attempt to soak in the vibe of the room.
Third time we'd requested a downstairs nook but were wedged in next to a lively table of 6, and we glanced longingly at the 4 spot nook that remained empty for the entire 2 hours we were there.
Excellent experience, highly recommend for a special occasion.
Great place, all the staff are friendly and attentive. Beautiful decor.
I was expecting a little more Disney-like but probably just as well. Maybe better to sit at the bar for a awhile before going to your table. I arrived in time for my reservation and was seated immediately.
Needs more Martin Denny music!
Food was very good and drinks were excellent.
Was very overpriced for what you recieve. Food was delicious but can get a better meal for much less many other places in town.
Such an amazing place to go! Perfect amount of noise and people, not overcrowded at all, which is such a relief. Great drinks, great food, service was fantastic! One of our favorite places to go from here on out!
Ambiance was great! Drink were good, but they they are priced a bit high ($11-18 for the ones we had). Food was really good as well, but it was on the higher end price-wise. That isn't to say it wasn't worth it. We tried huli huli chicken, which included 2 thighs and legs with papaya salad and lobster rolls and french fries ($28-32).
I would recommend giving this place a try for a special night out.
Ambiance make it a great place to visit/check out. Prices are ridiculously over priced and food/drinks didn’t measure up to expectations.
Max’s is a tiki experience! Outstanding decor and ambiance! Ordered many different dishes and everything was phenomenal! Get the musubi rolls and the s’mores! My only wish was that the menu was bigger. I would have loved a chicken breast or chicken sandwich. Not really a place for the picky eater. I will be going back as often as possible!
The place was slow. Booked a table for two in advance and was seated at a table upstairs by the aquarium where you could see almost nothing. The waiter treated us as if we were an afterthought because he had a couple of large parties. Dirty martini was all olive juice. By then it was just time to leave. Will not be back anytime soon.
The food and drinks were excellent, and we will definitely return!
My husband and I are huge fans of Tiki bars. Not only were the ambience and drinks spot on, which we expected from the owners, but the staff went above and beyond! They could tell that my husband had an appreciation for Tiki and gave him a personal tour of the place. We had dinner upstairs, and after our friends left, we had a few more cocktails downstairs at the bar. The bar staff was very well educated, had terrific recommendations and made drinks that were out of this world! Hats off to everyone involved with Max’s South Seas!
We had a great time at Max’s. It’s a lot more expensive than I thought it would be. It was a really cool experience though, so definitely worth at least one trip!
We sat in the darkest corner of the second floor-needed to use the light from our phones for the menus. Drinks slow to come to the table-some arrived after the meal. Drinks chock full of ice -kind of hilarious. Clearly designed to cut down on booze versus keeping the drink cold. Food mediocre. Glad I saw it-decor pretty cool. Won’t return
Fun for a celebration!
If you don’t mind paying for Ambiance, than this is you place. The god was good, but we had The Lobster Roll dinner which consisted of a lobster roll and a small portion of steak fries. Not filling for the price. The drinks were good with a lot of variety but expensive. With that said, you’ll love the atmosphere.
Outstanding restaurant, great atmosphere & our waitress Kaitlyn was amazing! We will be back soon
The ambiance of of the restaurant is amazing! Such a cool visual experience to go along with a fun dining experience. HUGE tiki drink menu and some really fun food choices as well! Loved the spring rolls, Huli Huli ribs...pu pu platter was great for sharing at the table! Will definitely be back!
Great server and great food!
Great Place - Food and drinks pricey but all very good. Atmosphere is amazing. We were greeted by a friendly hostess, but our server lacked the personality and attention for a place like this. Go have a drink and check out all the cool tikis!!
We had the best experience! Our server Kyle was amazing! Thank you Mark Sellers for a great restaurant!
Max's was a great experience. The ambiance is everything I expected (which was a lot!). It's true tiki without the theme park feel. The large tiki carving doesn't light up or sing a song, it's there to provide a nice backdrop to the delicious food and drink. My husband had the hideaway burger and I had the yam crusted Pacific catch of the day and a jungle bird cocktail. My husband is not adventurous with food so I was nervous, but he loved it. I tasted the hideaway burger and also thought it was really good-the huli huli sauce, the cheese and the meat-yum! My catch of the day was tender, flaky and perfectly cooked and nicely complimented by the yam and poblano peppers. The jungle bird was less sweet than I expected, which was a good thing. If you don't like rum this is not your drink! I tasted more rum than any of the other flavors. I also had the key lime pie for dessert. Key lime curd-frozen and centered on the plate surrounded by whipped cream, topped with graham flavored crispy sponge and dotted with tropical fruit sauce (maybe papaya and mango?? I can't recall). Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, had a good sense of humor and the other staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. I will definitely be back-probably a lot-since I work nearby!
This was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a LONG time! Seriously so great! Drinks and food were excellent. And the service was amazing.
Good food and fun environment. Had very slow service with not a very full restaurant. Could have just been our server but took 15 min for someone to say hi and take drink orders
Our server Justin was amazing! Great recommendations, and the food and drink were beyond expectations! It was a slow weekday, so I hope to see what it’s like on a busy weekend.
I love everything about this place! The drinks, menu, atmosphere, and staff will keep me going back!
Max's is the kind of place that can put a city on the map. The creators have blended the best of old-school tiki with modern Polynesian Pop tiki revival. No aspect of the overall experience has been neglected - from the food to the music to the decor and of course the drinks! With classics as well as modern originals, Max's is sure to have something to please everyone. There's even delicious looking mocktails available for those who can't or don't want to imbibe. Definitely recommend a stop at Max's if you find yourself in Grand Rapids!
An incredible amount of love and passion was poured into the decor and the drink menu. Our party ordered eight drinks between us and we were happy with all of them. The crab rangoons were also delicious. The poke bowl appetizer we had, though, was disappointing, especially for the price. The rice was strangely sweet and had hardened into a large clump that was difficult to pry apart with chopsticks. The tuna component was delicious, but the rest of the bowl tasted like it had been made a couple hours previously. Overall, glad we had the experience, but not sure we will be back soon, given the price and the mixed results with the food.
Great food, Exceptional service with a wonderful atmosphere! Drinks were delicious!
The food and drinks were awesome! Wish it was priced a little bit more reasonable but it was great!
This new icon of tiki and Polynesian design was astounding. It's full of amazing museum-quality artwork that will take multiple visits to truly appreciate. It is not just beautiful, but also filled with great people from the hosts to the bartenders to the servers who deliver top notch food and outstanding cocktails. I can't wait to get back!
Got stuck in a back corner behind a bar. Fairly noisy, no room, minimal view even though I specified this was for a special birthday dinner for wife's 50th. Had to get my own water refilled from bar. Neat decor but terribly overpriced for the mediocure food we ordered.
It was great atmosphere. The people were friendly and attentive to everything.
Great food and drinks! Experience was awesome, I just wish it was a little more wallet friendly.
An interesting novelty -- we thought of people we'd like to bring there next time they're in town.
They had a great variety of drinks and food was delicious. Loved the decor
Might have been the best dinner ive ever had
