Went back after a few months and noticed there was a new menu. My husband and I both got new menu items: he got the pork chop and I got the vegan crab cakes and we split the Buffalo calamari as an appetizer. When we received our entrees, I asked the server to make sure these were vegan before I dug in because they looked like actual crab cakes! Everything from the service to the bar to the food was great and far better than what I remembered.
We came in for restaurant week. The food was delicious. I was a bit disappointed with the entree serving size. 2 Scallops which were not even that large is not very much for an entree.
Very small portions compared to cost,hungry when leaving!
We were so impressed with the food and service. This was our first visit, and we can assure you it won't be our last. There is a cozy atmoshere and we felt like regulars as we were greeted by name as we entered. As luck would have it we visited during Restaurant Week and were delighted with the 4 course choices for $35. I especially enjoyed the spinach salad with cranberries and pistachios, the seared scallops with lentils and asparagus, and the crème brulée was a great way to finish off the meal. It was a bit of a distance coming from Delran, but we can say again it was well worth it. We hope to visit again soon, perhaps this time for lunch.
The red sauce we had with the meatballs was legit the best red sauce I’ve ever had in my life. Went in for seafood, left craving more red sauce (I seriously ate the last of it like soup)
We have been wanting to go to Max’s for awhile. Restaurant week and an anniversary have us a great opportunity. We all really enjoyed. A lot of food. Mussels as 2nd course were especially plentiful.
The only minor concern was scallops which were a little cold.
We needed clean plates when seated, the food took a very long time to be served and the wait staff was inattentive.
The food, when served, was very good. However, the other issues above over shadowed this.
2nd time here and both times were fabulous. Great ambience, scallops were huge and cooked perfectly with black lentils and asparagus. Met the owner who was most charming. Love love Max’s!
Baked seafood platter was skimpy. One scallop, 2 shrimp, a small amount of tasteless flounder and a lump of poorly seasoned crabmeat. Lots of rice. Overpriced at $32. Service was ok but nothing special. Have had excellent meals here before so this was disappointing.
Say at the bar, enjoyed the live music and the food. Everyone there was friendly and we really enjoyed ourselves

Max's changes but remains the same. Menu does vary at times but the taste and the quality of the food remains the same, great. Always a winner in my book.
Thai place used to be awesome, not no where near, food is overly salty and just bland not good. Services was even worse. Plus who serves pumpernickel with seafood?? Shame, this place was great
The food was excellent. Had the shrimp scampi . It was very good.
Disappointing. When I made the reservation, I specified that it was for my husband's birthday. When we arrived, the hostess whispered to me that she had received the message. However there was absolutely NO acknowledgement by the waitress or anyone else of his birthday. I was expecting at the minimum a "Happy Birthday" from someone or perhaps a dessert with a candle in it. But there was NOTHING. I was very dissatisfied. The food was fine. The service was only okay - wait staff seemed to have trained in diners, not better establishments. Much dropping and spilling at our table and others. All in all, just okay for an ordinary night. For a special occasion, not satisfactory.
We had a GREAT time! Seated immediately. Server was friendly, food and drinks were great and LIVE music!
Amazing tasting meals! We got the scallops and the filet, and split them. Both tasted great and we cleaned our plates. Dessert was excellent as well.
Phenomenal service, EXCELLENT food, great stafff!!!! Arrived almost 2 hours before my reservation and got a table before I could order drinks from the bar. Would recommend this place to ANYONE
Went there for Valentine's Day could not have asked for a better place to go recommend this restaurant very highly
HAd the Valentine Meal which was excellent. The mussel bisque was outstanding as was my entree, bourbon salmon. As usual, the meal did not disappoint!
We have eaten there several times (over 10) and always have a great meal.
Our visit to Max's was wonderful. The food & wine were excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. We have been going there for many years and will continue to do so.
Max’s was a fine dining experience. Great service. Shrimp Oscar over risotto was great. Nice wine selection. Server was great to provide and ice bucket for chilling. Food was very good. The mussels in white broth were fantastic. The crab cakes, while moist and tasty, was more of a mixture of crab and filler (certainly not in the Maryland tradition). The entree was supposed to be accompanied by seasoned veggies however I got corn with a few leaves of spinach instead; a bit disappointing.
We’d go back to try other menu items that looked appealing.
Max's Seafood Café was delicious, as always! The appetizers were delicious, the entrees were superb and the drinks were top notch. I happily encourage folks to dine at this restaurant all the time!
Entrees were excellent however the portion sizes were extreamly small for the price. Mussels in white sauce was bland. No salads offered with dinner. Ala cart for everything and overall not worth the price.

We went for my birthday after being there in the summer for the first time. It's easy to understand why they have been in business so long. The food was amazing, the service was friendly and the dining area was warm and inviting.
We started with the clams casino and mussels in red sauce. The topping for the clams was very tasty, the clams a little chewy. The mussels were tender and the sauce was perfect, especially for dipping. We also had the tomato crab bisque which was good to the last drop.
The entrees were delicious and perfectly done. The risotto with the shrimp with crab stuffing was delicious. The crab cakes were yummy with lots of crab meat. Every dish we had was portioned correctly so we all finished everything on the plate. This way, we had room for dessert. The chocolate mousse was so rich and chocolatey, the crème Brule had a nice hard coating and the cheesecake tasted homemade.
All and all a wonderful experience and one we are looking forward to having again.
Disappointed in the slow service. It took an hour to receive our appetizers. Refills were extremely slow. My wife enjoyed her entree but my scallops had significant amounts of sand in them.
We noticed a couple things: would’ve liked blue cheese stuffed olives for martinis (were told they have them sometimes but not all the time???) would like to handed a wine list not told the types of wine offered (would like to know names, region and prices) as well as a beer list to read. Also to have vanilla ice cream offered with dessert, especially for the chocolate cake & bread pudding. Hard to enjoy those without a scoop of ice cream! Our dinner entrees were quite small for the price (sea bass and the shrimp Oscar. Food and service was fine. We just wanted to share our thoughts of this experience from last night. Maybe a couple small changes will encourage us to return. Thank you
The food was good and full of flavor, but the Chef needs to pay attention to detail. The menu list's a dish that has U-10 shrimp. I have never seen a U-10 shrimp, so I questioned the waiter on this. Seems the dish comes with 3 regular size shrimp. On a pasta dish that we ordered the menu stated that the sauce contained artichokes, but in fact it was served with spinach, not artichokes. Not a big deal for me as I like both, but there are allot of people with allergies that cannot have this type of substitution made without notice. The same dish stated pappardelle pasta, but moments before our entrees arrived we were told they were out of pappardelle and would linguini be OK? Again not a big deal, but not what is on the menu. Lastly the soup was not hot and needed to go back to the kitchen to be warmed in the microwave. So....if you are flexible you most likely enjoy your meal, just don't take the menu too seriously.
The food was great but the size was small. I was disappointed.
The food was excellent, prices weren't bad for seafood. I wasn't very happy with the service. Our server was very nice, but slow moving. We were never given bread, or offered a drink menu, though we watched him do both for tables seated around us. Food took a very long time to come out, and took awhile to get the check when we were done too. Maybe it was just an off night.

As usual; salmon dinner excellent. But, Cape May Clam chowder soup was way too salty. Great Friday night small bar atmosphere.
It was New Years Eve, they initially sat us at the table closest to the kitchen and the wait staff area. I asked to move, which they finally accommodated. As a result service was slow and not at all pleasant. Food not as good as usual and we have gone to Max's for many occasions. All and all VERY disappointing, not sure we will ever go back.
Great service and great seafood. Always a winner. Great atmosphere. Will go back.
