The Skirt Steak was fantastic! I also split one of their famous pastrami reuben sandwiches which was great along with the cobbler for dessert.
I'm not sure how "originial" this Max's is but the food is up to the same standards as other Max's. All the old favorites, cabbage soup, Rubens, etc. are on the menu and as well prepared as ever. We didn't try the pastas but the roast beef was excellent. The cocktails were a little light but still tasty; although next time I will probably stick with the beers. As always the portions were gigantic, especially the desserts. Really a pleasant way to have a taste of home without the effort.
I love going to Max's. The menu is terrific, with so many options from "homey" chicken pot pie to California cuisine, like fresh kale salad.
My Chinese Chicken salad wasn't my favorite - the chicken was fried/tempura instead of grilled, so it seemed like an odd combination.
good food, the club sandwich was very good, one person had the prime rib special, it was good not great. I like coming in for either there sandwiches or a great burger
MAX’s is a really nice spot for a good drink and good food! Service is friendly and we enjoyed having cocktails and dinner.
As close to an east coast deli as you can get this far west of the Mississippi.
Service was fast and pleasant. Portions were large and food was several notches above standard diner fare.

My husband and I enjoy eating at Max’s when we’re in the San Francisco area. We were a little surprised to find out that the Saturday night piano music was discontinued. Our server was very friendly and our meal was brought to the table very quickly.
I had a wonderful salad - tuna/capers. It was sensational and comprised of all fresh veggie's. A true winder, with my waiter being attentive, even though he was tending the bar as well. Nice experience, highly recommended.
Despite that I made a reservation with Opentable, we had to wait more than 15 min after the reservation time. She seems not care about "reservation time." Original Max has been one of my favorite spot for years since it is not too far from my partner's place. Whenever I made a reservation, they let us sit right away...until this time. I guess I felt that "there is no reason to use Opentable for this place anymore.
People make a reservation because they wanted to sit down quickly. People make a reservation because they want to feel "valued customer." If Original Max do not respect that... then this place will not do well.

This place is nostalgic of diners. The food was typical of diners and the portions were of good size.
We were told that they only had medium prime rib after we ordered medium rare; no problem, except that one came medium but the other was well done with no apologies. I guess that they just thought that they would see if we would take it anyway.
Then the waiter forgot the steak knives & we used butter knives to eat that tough well-done prime rib
Then, on the menu, it stated that we would get cookies with the Thursday special. It didn't come so we had to ask the waiter if we could get our cookies. The waiter told us that they ran out. He did not offer a sub.
Wow, what lousy service & poor understanding of customer service.

Max’s is my first choice for a meal whenever I stay near SFO. The food is consistently good, the prices are reasonable, the service is personal, and I know I will not leave hungry. On a busy Friday night, Beverly, my server, took the time to answer questions and make recommendations. The Kale Salad with Grilled Salmon was excellent. She also helped me choose a craft beer. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert. I will be back!!!
Max's used to be great, now it's just good. They had a great turkey burger, now it's on wheat bread, not so good. Get a wheat bun not sliced wheat bread.
The Chicken Marsala was AMAZING! The bartender/server (I sat at the bar) had a great attitude, and made you feel welcome.

What friendly service and tasty food! We ordered eggs Benedict, Reuben sandwiches, and chicken pot pie. All were excellent. My side salad with blue cheese dressing had big chunks of creamy blue cheese and a variety of freshly diced, crunchy vegetables. Ambiance was average (it's next to an airport) but the service was fantastic.
Local place for us, always good food. We had the turkey dinner, which was good,
sliders, very good, and can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches...always great.

We were at a loss as to WHERE we could bring friends who were flying into the area for just one night, on their way home after a big vacation. We wanted a place where we could have a great time, good food and drinks and something casual, yet nice. Max's was IT! We haven't been there in a while and were so happy to re-visit it. We will be back again! Thanks!

Do not go here expecting to lose weight. Lots of great food and no concern for cholesterol, calories or fat content. Very tasty food.
We visit often and enjoy the variety of entrée options available. However, this is the first time that I've been disappointed with my meal. They use to have delicious French Onion Soup, but the recipe has changed and it was less than desirable. I'd suggest that you don't order the FOS.
Let's face it , there aren't a lot of NY Deli's on the Peninsula. In fact Max's is the only one I know of . That being said as a former NYer, to me it's comfort food. They've recently remodeled and it has a sort of upscale diner style vibe. It's refreshing to me to see chicken soup, laktes, pastrami and corned beef items on a menu, and most dishes are very generously portioned though pricey, as typical in the Bay Area. Great desserts too, giant macaroons, excellent cheesecake, incredible hot fudge sundae, and more. As they say - they have options that are good for a diet, and also not good for a diet, or something like that. They have pared down their menu, used to be quite large, now with fewer choices, but many of the old favorites. They have a piano player I think on Thursday nights, and overall a pretty consistent delicatessen where you can have a good meal and easy parking in front or in back/side of the building. Good for brunch, lunch or dinner, we'll keep coming back and have tried different Max's in other locations, the Burlingame Max's is my favorite.
I always enjoy going to Original Max's--the closest thing to a New York deli that one can get in the Bay Area. The location right off the freeway in Burlingame made it convenient for me and my friend, who was coming from San Francisco. Somewhat to my surprise, the restaurant was quiet for lunch.
The matzo ball soup was hot (as it should be) and excellent. The pastrami sandwich was plentiful and excellent. The cole slaw was fine. The server was friendly, polite and attentive.
I wish they would have told us that they were closing or not taken an 8:30 reservation when they were closing at 9. I felt like we were rushed through our dinner.
Went there mid week with a party of eight. Took a while for someone to come by. I like to have a drink and appetizers. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. appetizer came just prior to dinner being served. Food was mediocre, burgers WAY underdone. Service seemed rushed and shorthanded.

Came here while waiting for a flight. I had been to other Max's venues though admittedly not recently, and the food here just wasn't as good as I remembered. The restaurant was cold and I left my coat on for most of our meal. Service was ok but nothing to write home about; it took our server a good 10 minutes to come by and greet us. I had the Joe's Special and the meat was tasteless - a good dose of salt and pepper didn't help much either. My son had a Reuben which wasn't bad, but his side of fries was really small. Not sure I'll come back.

Max's is one of my favorite restaurants--as close to a New York deli as exists in the Bay Area. The matzo ball soup was outstanding, served hot--much better than what my mother ever did! The pastrami sandwich was also excellent, and the cole slaw was very good. All in all, the meal met all expectations.
The food here is eat half, take half home. Take out bakery is pricey but delicious.
As usual great service, new menu options to try. Son really enjoyed the new turkey bolognese pasta with turkey meatball, can't even tell it wasn't beef if I didn't tell him. I loved my prime rib on Thursdays, which includes creamed spinach, baked potato or potatoes cooked to your liking, and cookies for dessert. Been eating at Max's in the SF Bay Area since I was little, hope they stick around for many more decades!
Fish tacos rock and so does the jambalaya pasta all served with wonderful warm sourdough rolls. Server attentive and friendly. The problem with ambience is they no longer have the piano player. We go less than we used to for that reason. Please bring piano player back. I know others feel this way

Max’s has been around for quite a while. They are known for their great sandwiches, excellent ambiance and ginormous desserts! The wait staff was excellent, polite and supportive in terms of providing water, utensils, clearance of plates, advising us of specials, etc. Always the go to place for privacy, a big bash or a first date. The place is large enough to offer the perfect seating area for one’s needs.
Everytime we have been there, we left completely satisfied and happy - you cannot ask for more!
Our waiter was SO on it! And the food was delicious and expertly prepared.
