Always consistent meals, and great to eat prior to going to the airport with friends.
I am very sad to see pianist gone!! Not sure how much we will come now. That's why I rated ambiance low. We really enjoyed the piano player.
The food was good and we were not rushed as we sat there for several hours just talking
This is our favorite dining spot close to home. When we don't feel like cooking, this is the place to be! Good food and generous serving. Known for their Reuben sandwich! No one makes it better than they do. Roast chicken and pork chop are my favorite. Their nachos, however, isn't good., so I wouldn't recommend it.
Good food and good service even on a busy Friday night! Would go again!!
Max’s is my favorite dining spot when I stay near SFO. You get your money’s worth here as compared to the hotel restaurants in the area in terms of price, quality, and service. I enjoyed the Kale Salad with Salmon. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert. The Mocha Cake was a fine ending to an excellent meal!
Always a good go to when I am in the area.
Great location to meet with travelers using SFO We regularly visit this restaurant.
Busy valentine's day. Food took awhile and a bit over cooked. Great mud pie.
Haven't been here in years but service and food is still great.
Always a great big meal, great service, reasonable prices.
Awesome as always! Nostalgic for me having ate at the ones in SF & Marin locations that are closed now.
Used to go there all the time (ten years ago or more) and it was always a treat. The service was excellent this time, but the place is really run down, shabby decor, almost depressing. Max's needs to spend a little money to spiff things up and make it a destination place again.
All around great place to eat everything from there pasta to their Reuben is outstanding. The service was excellent everyone is friendly and helpful
Perfect place when you miss your lunch. The portion of food is large.
Love this place for the corned beef and pastrami type sandwiches!
If your looking for good food, and lots of it, this is a good place for comfort food
Great salads, burgers, and great sandwiches, they do have real dinner choices,
especially on Thursday, which is prime rib night.
this is a good neighborhood chain restaurant
Our dinner was awesome! We were at the SF Star Trek Convention and walked a couple blocks down to Max's for dinner. We reserved online, got there a couple of minutes early and our table was totally ready at our reservation time. Live pianist was great - we weren't in the bar-section, but close to it. We had onion rings (huge) for starters and a Rueben sandwich and Chinese Chicken salad for dinner. Waitress was spot on! Checked in with us at the right times - not too often or too infrequently. Overall, loved it and will definitely plan on Max's next year.
The place to have group lunches or dinners. Exceptional desserts and diverse menu, even for the pickiest palate.
The chicken pot pie is outstanding
I have enjoyed Max's for over 20 years, the food is awesome! I can truly say I've tried almost everything on the menu. Great taste and great portions. 😊
We hadn't been to Max's in a few months and stopped for dessert on the way to the airport. We were extremely disappointed to learn that they didn't have the fantasy torte any more
Our alternates were OK. The coffee was just warm. And, our server was pretty much invisible and inattentive.
This is not what I have grown to expect from Max's.
Please bring back the fantasy torte!!!
I ordered the Chinese Chicken salad. It was abominable. I was unable to eat it. The dressing tasted only of sugar - quite disgusting. The chicken was deep fried chicken strips with a thick batter.
Hadn't been to this Max's before. It doesn't compare to the one in Stanford. It is dated and needs a new look. The food was great and our waiter was amazing.
Bar not open on Sunday morning during football?!
There was very little to say that was positive about this place. It is definitely not up to the standards of other Max's.
The whole place needs to be refurbished and the food needs to be reworked.
A very good friend took me out to dinner as a appreciation event. He had chicken pot pie which she absolutely loved and I had the salmon which was very good. We each had our own desserts and they were fabulous way too big but they were fabulous! Was the first time for him to be at Max's because he's from out of state but he thoroughly enjoyed it.
My family and I went there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was our first time here, but we have always seen it off of the freeway and decided to try it out. The ambience is very nice with a live piano player. The service was great but the area we were seated at had very inconsistent temperatures. When we were first seated, it was very cold and the air was blowing. Then it would change to moderate and change back to cold again. The food was good, nothing extraordinary. We would probably go back and try other dishes.
What has happened to Max's. The menu has changed, the prices are high - almost $20 for a salad, the wait staff looks all like family members, the service was marginal, at best, the portion sizes are much smaller.....not like the "old" Max's. Sad.
When I stay near SFO, I go to Max’s for dinner. The service is always attentive (Thank you, Beverly!), the food is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. Max’s has summer specials which are outstanding. The Bruschetta made with heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil was an fine accompaniment to the meal. Be sure to save room for dessert. The Berry Pie was to die for!
We come here often and while I can understand why they've pared down their menu, each time we go it seems a favorite is gone! We just loved the large pretzel with dip - hope they bring it back! The burgers and fries are great, as well as the portabella sandwich for vegetarian's, always good. The matzoh ball soup is the best around - but alas, that's gotten smaller too. For the price they charge they should give the larger size bowl they used to give ! Usually generous portions, right along with the price but worth it for good quality, and when they say good for a diet or non dieter, they're right - something for everyone and delicious sky high desserts! This is our favorite of the Max's restaurants we've tried, and it's a fun, lively atmosphere especially when they have music, we'll keep coming back - it's the only deli style restaurant around and they aim to please, great service and consistently delicious food.
The tower of onion rings were cooked in a perfect batter, somewhere between tempura and a beer batter. The pastrami on Rye was out of this world...the best I have ever had and blows away the restaurants that "specialize" in pastrami sandwiches! The waiter was qwirky and funny. My only complaint is, since the restaurant wasn't busy, and there were a lot of empty tables in our section, why did the hostess sit an obnoxious woman and her loud children in the booth right next to us???
I had the Potato Latkes and the Matzo Ball soup. The soup was not very flavorful . Latkes were dense and a little cold. I won't be going back.
I'm glad to see there still is a place in the S.F. Bay Area where one can go get some "deli" food. Their Cabbage Soup is my favorite.
though I made this reservation their system did not show it lucky I called before to ask for specific table.
This is no place for a diet! Garlic cheese bread is the bomb!!
Max has but back on there food. I order a patty melt and it was not like it use to be, meat was over cooked, bread was not toasted, cheese was not melted, onions only a few, the worst I have ever had.
Would I go back no, it's off my list.
A great spot for meeting/eating before, or after a flight from SFO - or having a last meal with friends before they fly from SFO.
The food is always good, but the service we received this evening made the day. Attention to detail and service was fantastic.
Generous portions were a big hit with our teenage grandson.
