Our server, Mars, was outstanding. He really enjoyed his job, knew the menu, offered suggestions when asked, etc. Wish his attitude and service ethic could be cloned!

Max's is our go to place for delicious comfort food and good service.

We normally like Max's but for some reason this trip was unusually poor. Service OK but food was really horrible. Got signature Ruben and was asked if I wanted both Corned Beef and Pastrami. Sounded wonderful! What I got was corned beef and Philly Cheesesteak beef. Not good. Fries tasted stale like they had double fried them after they got cold. Other family members meals were not much better. Sorry to say you're only as good as your last meal ... won't be returning anything soon and spend $80 for mediocre to poor food.

After many visits to Max's, it was astonishing to see the dramatic change. The first signal, was a sign by the front entry, warning that the customers should take care due to recent thefts in the parking area.
Inside, the restaurant looked worn and neglected. The usual buzz of diners was missing. Max's has always been filled with families and bustling with good food.
The menu had been simplified to a much smaller selection. Our glasses of wine were fine and served soon after arrival. Our salads arrived and the beet, the kale and the Chinese chicken salads were mediocre at best. The usual basket of rolls were so stale that they were left on the plate. Last of all, even the cup of coffee was too ordinary to drink.

One positive note:
Our server was very pleasant and professional and did her best to make our visit pleasant.

I was just very surprised to see the decline and hope that better days lay ahead.
I'm sorry to have to write such a bleak review.

Server deserves a star for being exceptional. She was attentive and placed two of our take home items in containers to avoid breaking up the pie. A very thoughtful touch

We love Max's! Food is always great. We go for the wonderful HUGE NY deli style corned beef sandwiches.

We seek Freddie out when we come to Max's. He's an awesome person - always takes excellent care of us. He knows our drink preferences and knows what we like to eat. I hope Max's has formally acknowledged his outstanding performance - he deserves it!

Max's was very accommodating, even when our party of 10 arrived 45 mins early for our reservation. Great variety on the menu with plentiful portions. Recommendation: always leave room for dessert! We tried everything from the key lime pie to the brownie mud pie and everything was yummy, albeit rich. Our server was amazing and had a great sense of humor.

Disappointing visit for a birthday dinner. If it's a child's birthday, it would be nice if the wait staff sang happy birthday. They love that kind of stuff, and if you can't get a decent song at Max's, what is the world coming to?

I am very sad to see pianist gone!! Not sure how much we will come now. That's why I rated ambiance low. We really enjoyed the piano player.

This is our favorite dining spot close to home. When we don't feel like cooking, this is the place to be! Good food and generous serving. Known for their Reuben sandwich! No one makes it better than they do. Roast chicken and pork chop are my favorite. Their nachos, however, isn't good., so I wouldn't recommend it.

Max’s is my favorite dining spot when I stay near SFO. You get your money’s worth here as compared to the hotel restaurants in the area in terms of price, quality, and service. I enjoyed the Kale Salad with Salmon. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert. The Mocha Cake was a fine ending to an excellent meal!

Used to go there all the time (ten years ago or more) and it was always a treat. The service was excellent this time, but the place is really run down, shabby decor, almost depressing. Max's needs to spend a little money to spiff things up and make it a destination place again.

If your looking for good food, and lots of it, this is a good place for comfort food
Great salads, burgers, and great sandwiches, they do have real dinner choices,
especially on Thursday, which is prime rib night.
this is a good neighborhood chain restaurant

Our dinner was awesome! We were at the SF Star Trek Convention and walked a couple blocks down to Max's for dinner. We reserved online, got there a couple of minutes early and our table was totally ready at our reservation time. Live pianist was great - we weren't in the bar-section, but close to it. We had onion rings (huge) for starters and a Rueben sandwich and Chinese Chicken salad for dinner. Waitress was spot on! Checked in with us at the right times - not too often or too infrequently. Overall, loved it and will definitely plan on Max's next year.

We hadn't been to Max's in a few months and stopped for dessert on the way to the airport. We were extremely disappointed to learn that they didn't have the fantasy torte any more

Our alternates were OK. The coffee was just warm. And, our server was pretty much invisible and inattentive.

This is not what I have grown to expect from Max's.

Please bring back the fantasy torte!!!

I ordered the Chinese Chicken salad. It was abominable. I was unable to eat it. The dressing tasted only of sugar - quite disgusting. The chicken was deep fried chicken strips with a thick batter.

Hadn't been to this Max's before. It doesn't compare to the one in Stanford. It is dated and needs a new look. The food was great and our waiter was amazing.

My family and I went there to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was our first time here, but we have always seen it off of the freeway and decided to try it out. The ambience is very nice with a live piano player. The service was great but the area we were seated at had very inconsistent temperatures. When we were first seated, it was very cold and the air was blowing. Then it would change to moderate and change back to cold again. The food was good, nothing extraordinary. We would probably go back and try other dishes.

A very good friend took me out to dinner as a appreciation event. He had chicken pot pie which she absolutely loved and I had the salmon which was very good. We each had our own desserts and they were fabulous way too big but they were fabulous! Was the first time for him to be at Max's because he's from out of state but he thoroughly enjoyed it.

What has happened to Max's. The menu has changed, the prices are high - almost $20 for a salad, the wait staff looks all like family members, the service was marginal, at best, the portion sizes are much smaller.....not like the "old" Max's. Sad.
