Max's Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Great food! We had oysters (of course), for an appetizer. My husband had the paella, which he enjoyed, although found it a little too salty. I had the wasabi tuna, also very good. The waitstaff was very attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The only complaint I have is that the lighting is so low- at least where we were seated- that it made it difficult to read the menu.
This is restaurant is one that all of the folks gathered for the meal frequent multiple times annually. It was a favorite that we would give 4 stars across the board. Our last visit was disappointing to say the least. We had a service that was slow and forgetful. Communication was a little rude and edgey. The food was not as good as usual. Items were a little over cooked, orders from the bar were very slow and in some cases not done well and returned. Our expectations were not met at all from a place that always satisfied very well. A disappointing experience. Will think twice before returning any time soon.
I had the scallops over the chopped salad which were perfect complements to each other. My companions ordered sea bass and salmon a la plancha, and both raves about their meals. We had a perfect booth on the side and just had an enjoyable night with good food, wine and friends.
My husband and our two college aged children took me to Max’s Oyster Bar for my birthday; this is developing into a tradition as Max’s Oyster Bar is my favorite restaurant in the Max’s Group, and I have celebrated my birthday dinner there for the last four years. This year did not disappoint! Our waiter was very friendly, informative, and relaxed - we never were needlessly bothered and we never felt rushed. The menu had changed a little since my last birthday, and we all tried a different entree as our waiter made everything sound so delicious. We opted to go home for birthday cake, but not before we were treated to complimentary “cake pops” and champagne.
Max’s food and ambiance is consistently fabulous, but the staff made the night truly memorable. I’ll definitely be back next year on my birthday, but I’m sure you’ll see us sooner than that!
We had Chad as our server. He truly made our experience great! We went for my birthday and it was our first time visiting Max's Oyster Bar. We asked for his recommendations on wine, food, and dessert and each suggestion was fantastic! We will definitely be going back !
We enjoyed a 50th anniversary dinner at Max Oyster. Delicious, innovative and perfectly prepared food, plus complimentary anniversary Champagne, amuse bouche and chocolate truffles with coffee, and excellent service by Chad. The place was crowded and the noise level was high, but aside from that, we loved it.
My wife and I live in Kingston NY. When we want oysters and a great seafood entree, we drive 2 hours to Max's Oyster Bar for exceptional fare and service. Max's has been a destination restaurant of ours for over 10 years. We meet friends and family as far away as Duxbury MA. We were at Max's twice this past week to celebrate the holidays.
Great Holiday lunch with colleagues. Started out with Baltimore shrimp and had the Atlantic swordfish over potatoes and brussel sprouts special and it both were outstanding. Service was great and the ambiance was fantastic for the Holidays. Cant wait to head back.
A great experience.
Not a ton of options but that's good; no Great restaurant offers a ton of options. But there is something for everyone and it's not an easy decision.
Our waiter was attentive, helpful & professional; pacing was perfect.
All this goodness comes at a fairly hefty price but for such a dining experience it is not overpriced.
Good, if not great, dinner. Very busy (Sunday) night. Waitress was fine - the right amount of attention. Cheese app (special) was tremendous. Baked stuffed lobster was good, but could have used a bit something extra in the stuffing (bay scallops, perhaps). Salmon entre was less successful; topping was odd, and, while visually appealing, detracted from the overall taste of the entre. The wines by the glass list, as usual, was superb.
