Max's Oyster Bar
Never a bad meal. Great food and service.
Very good. Our waiter Steve was great and very knowledgeable
Oysters were delicious as usual! A great place for a business lunch.
We really enjoyed our dining experience at Max’s. Our waiter Steve was very attentive and professional. The food was excellent. I like the ambiance/atmosphere there very much. The noise level can get a bit loud, but I certainly will be back there again. Overall a great experience.
We had a great time at Max’s Oyster bar! The food was delicious, the drinks perfect, and the service outstanding! Our entree scallops were delicious, but just a tad overdone. Our appetizers, which consisted of oysters, scallops ceviche, fried calamari, and a chopped salad were ALL superb. It’s hard to find perfectly tender fried calimari, well, look no more.
Our server was friendly, very competent, and never rushed us. Excellent service, Sarah!
Dessert and coffee were perfect (I always get their key lime pie, (which is more like a small tart) because it’s awesome.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday, and they brought him out a cute little plate with two cake pops and a candle.
My family visits and we go out to eat in the Hartford area once a year. This was our second year at Max’s Oysters. It was so great that we decided this would be our yearly spot going forward. Food and service were excellent.
They put us in a booth by the bathroom and kitchen when I noted it was our anniversary on the reservation. Slightly annoying.
Always consistent, always perfect!! From the greeting to the check a wonderful experience. Delicious!!!
We really enjoyed our dining experience. We shared a calamari starter and Caesar salad and both had sea scallops. All were delicious. For dessert, we shared chocolate beignets and creme brûlée between four of us, both which were excellent. Furthermore, the cocktail with pineapple and tequila was a combination I’ve never had, but enjoyed immensely. Service was attentive. The ambiance was lively. And the decor was inviting. In particular, they have a great bar. The only negative was the price. We spent about $160 for two, which was expensive considering we shared our salad and dessert and had cocktails at the bar ahead of time. Regardless, we look forward to returning soon.
Concert at xl centee
Great service and attentiveness.
We sat in the back room by ourselves and there was room in the main dining room.
As always, the food was excellent. Our party had Arctic char, salmon, tuna and swordfish. All were prepared beautifully and tasted good. Service was helpful and friendly. The noise level was a little high, but we had a party of 20 seated next to us!
Not an everyday place, but a good special night out dinner.
We went on a Sunday afternoon, they stop serving brunch at 3pm so we were given both brunch and dinner to choose from. The dining room is nice and inviting, classy but not overly fancy. It was quiet as we were definitely in between rushes. It ended up being a pricey "lunch" but the entrees were comparably priced for other dining locations in the area. My boyfriend had oysters and a monk fish special. He enjoyed both very much. I had the clam chowder which was definitely one of the better versions I've had. I also had the hot buttered lobster roll which was great, from the bread to the lobster! Definitely will return!
Great food and experience
Great food in a nice place. Had the best server that made excellent recommendations.
My wife and I live in WH; we are food lovers; we have spend many thousands of dollars in the Max group;
My last oyster meal was cold; the chocolate desert was supposed to be warm and was cold.
We expect and excellent experience when dining at Max s
Dr Joerg and Patricia Rathmann
Always a great meal and meeting
As always, our meals were just delicious. Our server was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Every time we visit Max's Oyster Bar we have excellent food and service. The oysters are fantastic and it is always an experience to try the different varieties. The ambience is lovely, and I recommend it highly!
Service, food and atmosphere all excellent! Would definitely recommend
Great staff. Wonderful food and great atmosphere! Seating was comfortable.
I would come back and definitely tell others to visit!
We had a hankering for oysters so my husband and I headed to Max’s Oyster Bar. Always a favorite.
I have eaten at Max’s many times and it has always been a pleasant experience, food is excellent as is the waitstaff. can be a bit noisy at times but yesterday was not the case.
Veronica, our server , was amazing. She knew the menu well, and did a great job explaining our dining options.
We had a business meeting to review some data. Our server gave us plenty of time to review the spreadsheets, then provided great service when we were ready to eat. One of us had to avoid gluten and was delighted by the menu options.
Everything was delicious and served in a timely manner.
Chad our waiter was more than accommodating! My friend and I had a wonderful time ! The food was great!!!
Great booth for two. Vicki our server was very pleasant and attentive. The food was expertly prepared.
Always great food and service. We have never been disappointed and will return. We have brought friends there from out of town who raved about their experience.
The experience dining at Max's was very nice but hardly worth the expense.
Everything was great. Fish was a little undercooked and server took care of and manager came over to offer apologies and came back to check on refired piece after wife tried again which was perfect this time.
Steak was amazing.
Seafood was good, but not great. Dessert was ok. Bathroom was dirty. Waiter, Chad was very good.
Such a great evening!!
It was as always wonderful
Valentine’s dinner, good food, small portions but delicious, amazing oysters
Fantastic as usual.
6 of us shared oysters and little necks. Oysters were 2 kinds from Long Island and were juicy and succulent. Then we had fried oysters, crab cakes, salmon and 2 people had clam chowder. We shared an order of beignets for desert. All enjoyed the meal great service and food
Excellent food and service - always a wonderful experience. My son loves the oysters.
This restaurant has gone downhill over the past few years. My husband and I go here for special occasions a few times a year so we haven't been in about 6 months. The food quality has gone way downhill.
We usually order an appetizer, a bunch of items from the raw bar, a salad each, an entree each, a dessert and several drinks. The drinks were fantastic but other than that everything was very lacking. We had the calamari which has completely changed and lacks flavor. The salads weren't anything special. We had oysters and after the meal we were both extremely sick so I think we may have had some bad ones. We each had one of the special meals and mine came with risotto. The rice was literally hard and barely edible. It also tasted extremely bland. The fish I had was stuffed and the stuffing was tough and chewy. My husband had a seafood pasta and the seafood had no flavor. Then we had an apple tarte and it was warm around the edges and cold in the middle.
For a $240 bill for two of us, we expected much better food. There are too many good options in West Hartford for us to return there again. It's too bad because it really was our favorite place to go to for special occasions. And the restaurant is so loud with such tight seating. It's a shame because it really was a wonderful restaurant a few years ago.
