The food & service are good at Max's Opera Cafe, and prices are reasonable. My wife and I enjoyed the turkey, bacon, & Swiss cheese sandwich with French fries along with a large ice tea. Max's is convenient for lunch when at the Stanford Shopping Center, and has an outdoor dining option.

The outdoor patio was a great place to eat at lunchtime! The salads were generous and delicious.

My entree was horrible. Hamburger steak served with ketchup? Every other restaurant does a sauce. Iced tea used to be brewed and poured over ice, not anymore. Plus server brought no refills. We were rushed to order. Max's of past glory is no more.

Food service slow, sent back eggs strong vinegar taste, second time over done , did not eat, was still charged for basically having toast. Has been good previous visits, but not this one, will not return for awhile.

Good food selections--vast menu--and service. Very pleasant atmosphere. We often order from Max's thru DoorDash and have never been disappointed with the food.

Best place in at least a 10-mile radius for an "old fashioned" Prime Rib dinner Thursday through Sundays. Meaning, tender & tasty Prime Rib well-served to order, with the "mandatory" options of baked-or-mashed potato, and creamed spinach-or-broccoli. Max's can get high level of noise, especially when the pianist is in the house and diners have to talk louder to be heard over the music. There are also Max's famous desserts, worthy of their sign that said, "If you are on a Diet, this isn't the place for you!" But I think maybe they took that sign down! In any case, just to complete your non PC meal, you can sneak that dessert out of the restaurant by ordering it to go! (You'll need a break from the ample dinner to have room for the dessert anyway!)

Reliable place to take the family to for a meal. On a sidenote (and this doesn't impact my rating, just an observation) but I remember it being easier to be a vegetarian here and not only being stuck with a salad.

Service was decent and what I expected.

Have been here often over the years. Basically large Deli sandwiches with bar, excellent casual restaurant for lunch and midafternoon snack. Usually very busy during the day so have reservation. San Francisco style ambiance.

First time to this Max's (have been to other Max's before), feel the food served tasted somehow better taste than others. Good outdoor dining areas for lunch.

Excellent service, fair prices, but the portions were too large. The small patty melt was huge and could not be finished.

Very good food & service with reasonable prices. Max's is an excellent choice for a meal while at the Stanford Shopping Center. The chicken Cobb salad & hot pastrami sandwiches were delicious. Diners are given the option of eating at inside or outside tables, both of which are very popular. Reservations are suggested.

The inside seating in several places is too noisy for us.
We muchprefer the quieter outdoor seating weather permitting.
The bar tender is outstanding.
We tried the onion soup for the first time, and it was good.
Our server was very nice.

This is a good place to enjoy a meal while shopping at Stanford. Food is good, there are many options, the staff are friendly and helpful. The portions are large and intended to be shared.
For casual dining, it is a good place and I would go there again.

One of our favorite spots to enjoy when we are at Stanford Shopping Center. Nice large portions. I had the BBQ Pork Quesadilla and it was delicious. We also ordered the Jambalaya Fettuccine and it was very savory.

Food was ok though bit pricey (prime rib). Service was good but music was far too loud. Reduce the vol 50% and then it would be fine. Surprised the place was almost empty but I guess Thurs is an off night.

If you want good pastrami, corn beef and other jewish delicatessen, go to Max's Opera Cafe. You will receive good service, good food plus nice desserts and drinks. There is piano music at certain hours.

Sort of a hit-and-miss menu. They do some items quite well (salmon on quinoa) and others not so well (caesar salad). Most portions are large. Unfortunately they have had a price creep and now it's not a good value, especially their over-priced booze drinks.

they have cut down on the portions, not offer bread, very noisy as they throw the clean plates on the tables,

they have added a 3 % min. wage tax to the bill w/o any info regarding this decision on the table ,

so all it does is lessen the tip for your waiters !!!!

good bar drinks, shrimp tacos are terrific, however the turkey, bacon and swiss sandwich left much to be desired - and since they made their bones as a deli... ouch! I was also surprised at the limited choices on the lunch menu ... if you're not into pickles and slaw then stay away, which is what I will be doing in the future.

we went for the chicken pot pie but the pie was the least favorite this time. Too much onion and the curst was not flakey. We ordered the jambalaya pasta and that was flavorful.

No chicken pot pie next time!!
