Dined outside, atmosphere was amazing. Have lived in Richmond 65 years, wouldn't have imagined dining in this neighborhood 10 years ago, but felt very comfortable walking several blocks to and from the car (didn't opt for valet - which was available). We will return, as the menu was quite intriguing.

Splendid atmosphere! Great experience! The service was impeccable! Would eat there again in a heartbeat. The Baked Alaska was fun to order, but I have to say it was not that tasty to me so a little disappointed. That's the only reason for 4 stars on food. The Vegan Coconut Cream Pie was delicious and the Scallops, and Shrimp and Grits perfecto!

Our waiter rushed us from the moment we sat down right up until he asked for our valets parking ticket.
The bananas foster French toast was served with pieces of French bread way over toasted and the quiche was served warm and tasted like a piece of rubber with no flavor. The beef sliders were served on bread you could not chew. It was a very disappointing experience for all of us. It was our go to place, but not anymore.

Service and food were disappointing. The waiter was less than attentive and forgot several things. My tuna meal was OK but the mashed potatoes and vegetables were so salty I couldn’t eat them. When I told the waiter his response “I will let the chef know”

On a positive note the sommelier was delightful. We enjoyed our wine - the Black Chicken Zinfandel

The server noted that one of our steaks wasn't prepared to our order - she spoke to the manager (without us knowing). The manager came and apologized and comp'ed our desert.

I asked for my steak to be medium and it was well done. My friend had short ribs were scarce and were not the same quality as what she had previously. On a Saturday evening the place should have been packed and it was not busy. This was our go to place prior to a show at the Altria Theater. We will not be returning.

The Lobster Bisque was amazing as was the complimentary bread. However, I personally found the New York Strip Steak a tad bit too tough, and the fries felt as if they were frozen, and not homemade, let alone cooked with love. The Steak et Frites, was over priced for the quality I received. Don't get me wrong it was cooked as I ordered, but it was just a really tough piece of meat.

Overall very good. Will go here again. Our server did have several other larger party tables but it would have been nice to be offered water refills after my glass was empty for 30 minutes. Other than that food quality is very good, bar choices are exceptional and ambience is great. Just needed a little more attentiveness to give this a 5-Star rating

I have had several very good experiences a Max’s. However, this Mother’s Day was not one of them.
The server was polite, but not personable. He took our drink order, but did not bring them for 20 minutes, all while we watched the bar tender stand at his post with very little to do.
We booked a late reservation, 3pm, and it was not crowded at all.
The food was good, as always.
This was the first time my husband and I have taken both moms out together, and we were hoping for a much more enjoyable experience.

Disappointing. Food was not warm. New menu. We had breakfast. Quiche was disappointing pancakes on the cool side waffle on the cool side. Waitress was very pleasant in the atmosphere was the same very pretty. New brunch menu options for a disappointment.

The food here was amazingly good for its price range. Wait staff seemed uninterested in us but was still very efficient. Would recommend to friends as it was overall a delightful experience!

Lovely evening. The food was delicious from appetizer to dessert. Service couldn’t have been nicer. Friendly and responsive to the varying requests of 6 people. We will be back soon.

Terrific interpretation of a wedge salad. Unique lettuce, dressing and be sure to add the crab for a complete lunch entree.

I took my Mom here for Morher’s day. It was nice but I guess I was expecting a more French experience. Maybe play some Madeleine Peyroux or other French music? The filet Mignon was dry. The server was sweet and gave great service.

Max on Broad has always been my favorite and go-to! Unfortunately this last Thursday, which was to celebrate my wife’s birthday was nothing to write home about. The place was only 1/4 occupied at our 8:15 reservation, we had to find someone to seat us, then our server took too long to take our order, then failed to bring a steak knife until I was half done, and finally asked what else I needed, which I asked for ketchup, and probably 10 minutes later was brought a bottle that had an inch left in the bottom.
Service was so slow, the food was lack luster that we didn’t bother to stay for birthday dessert.
You’d think if they were this slow, service would have been better!
Definitely was not “all hands on deck” that evening from the missing greeter, the absent minded server, and the chef that over cooked my steak. My wife enjoyed her tasty grits with shrimp.
The parking valet was very efficient.

The valet Parker gave us a positive review of the play we were seeing after dinner and said he hoped we would enjoy it. A great start to the evening. The view from upstairs was fun and interesting. The food was just what we wanted. I had cauliflower which was outstanding. We had to ask for bread -is that a new policy? Very nice waitress who kept in touch without being intrusive. Lovely altogether. Thank you. Max’s is a favorite, especially on Virginia Rep nights. Our car was waiting for us after the show.

Excellent service. Great night to have the big windows open upstairs. Great bar experience before being seated. Overall good food. Some dishes a bit salty. Salmon cooked perfectly but salty dish.

Current menu leaves a lot to be desired. Many good things are missing - especially the good salads. Food not cooked as ordered first time around. Took a second time to get close to correct. A lot of salt is added to food.

They really know how to fix eggs. Valet parking for Easter brunch, excellent. Side dishes were excellent, service great. WE will be back.

While I enjoy the setting of Max's, the quality of the food and service versus the price is really not appropriate. I am accustom to a higher price point in a restaurant in Richmond especially when they use locally sourced food items. However, I do expect a certain quality in my food and then service that is delivered and it fell very short this visit. I will probably never be back to Max's after this visit either. It took over a half hour to even give our order to our server and we rarely saw him to ask for refills on coffee or cocktails. My husband's sunny-side-up eggs we're grossly undercooked (with visible clear egg white on one of them), my mother's eggs Benedict where nothing special and my filet mignon sliders fell short in the flavor department. All of these meals were at least $14 as well. For a bill that was over $100, I did not feel like we had a great value for that.

Hi Ray, I am sorry for the higher price point not being fit for what you were served your last visit- I never want a guest to feel they overpaid or feel service was not a great value. As the owner, I have been working with management to help ensure better quality training to our staff-so that it reflects our company's standards. Service, atmosphere, food and drink all good. The removal of poutine from the menu, however, has sent me into a deep, dark depression which may drive my family to relocate to Canada.

We were kind of worried about Max's after the previous menu revision, which was a radical one, but the menu has been revised again to make it more like the old menu. Customer favorites like the waterzooi have been brought back, and the overall feel of the menu is very classy. We're delighted not only that the menu has been restored to greatness, but also that the restaurant clearly listened to its customers' feedback. On top of that, the dishes we got were perhaps the best we've ever had from there. Max's is on its A game once again, and we can't wait to go back.
