Okay, not great. Bit pricey for food received.

We have thoroughly loved our experience at Max's every time we go. They are warm, welcoming and very friendly. Their drinks, food and wine are outstanding. The servers and management are very knowledgeable and go the extra distance to make the experience 2nd to none.

We can't say enough about everything here - from the valet to the kitchen to service and management - it's all the best you can expect!

Wonderful from beginning to end! Seated right away, very attentive but not overbearing waiter, delicious appetizers, entrees and the chocolate bread pudding was out of this world.

The atmosphere at the restaurant is nice - casual and comfortable. Our server was a nice guy, but appeared to be new. He forgot multiple things and brought the check before the meal had concluded (we had not been offered coffee or desert, which we wanted.) The food was overall pretty good, with some unimpressive elements. The French onion soup was very good. The escargot was mediocre, lacking flavor and served with little/no sauce. The ribeye was very thin and average. The short ribs were cooked perfectly, but over-sauced with the sauce being too rich and overpowering. One of our daughters had the steak sliders and loved them. Our other daughter had the filet, which was slightly over cooked and dry. The deserts were all amazing. We had chocolate pound cake, strawberry shortcake, apple cake and creme brûlée - all of which we would strongly recommend. We drove down from Fredericksburg for the meal and would not likely make the trip again.

A beautiful experience. The best Valentine’s Day dinner I’ve ever had. The service was lovely and the steaks were top-notch. I look forward to going back!

The service is was hit me the most. Our server was so nice and very helpful with suggestions. We were sitting right by a speaker and it wasn't an issue of being too loud at all. Definitely a great place for occasions. Will definitely return!

very cool place with great food at reasonable price

Being Valentine's Day, this could have been a mob scene. Don't know if it was Covid, or the ice storm, or some combination, but it was a very pleasing lunch without feeling crowded or rushed. We weren't celebrating the holiday -- my friend and I had theatre tickets that afternoon.

I had been here before for pre-theatre dinner, but never for brunch and never for a holiday. zIt was my co-diners first visit and she was very pleased with everything. The selection on the menu was nice and varied. We each had aps, an entree each and split the dessert. It was plenty of food and the total bill plus a generous gratuity for the server was under what we were expecting to spend.

Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable, and willing to go that extra mile when my co-diner made requests. I wish I remembered her name, but I got to the table a bit later and she had probably already introduced herself to my co-diner.

Definitely get the chocolate bread pudding for dessert. It's a great way to end a great meal!

I requested a quiet corner table for my husband’s birthday dinner and they totally came through with the sweetest table in a back corner upstairs. The lighting and ambiance was perfect. The crab cakes were some of the best I’ve ever had and the brussel sprouts were delicious! Looking forward to the next time!

Everything was wonderful, we truly enjoyed the food. The icing on the cake was when the manager called me to inquire about our reservation prior to arrival and ensured our party seating was set up and ready to go when we arrived. Our Waitress Catherine was superb.

We really enjoyed the escargot and the scallops. Highly recommend asking for bread when you get the escargot because the toast that comes with the escargot does not stop up the delicious garlic butter.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. Multiple people came to my table to make sure I had everything I needed. The guests were well spaced out. Food was delicious!

A perfect evening! The food, service, and ambience we’re all as anticipated and experienced. We started with oysters on the half shell, escargot, I had the duck and my date had the fillet mignon with crab meat topped with blue cheese sauce. Everything was prepared perfectly. We definitely will return soon!

Odered the mushroom risotto. It was so bad that neither of us could eat it. Very salty!!! Ambiance and service was amazing though.

Max's on Broad is always on point. We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner there, feeling safe as the staff were all masked and the restaurant was being cleaned appropriately between seating diners. The food was wonderful and the ambiance, even with covid precautions was great. The closest we are going to get to a dinner in Paris at the moment!

What a lovely spot in downtown Richmond to enjoy delicious French cuisine in an upbeat setting. The Escargots was outstanding and we paired it with the house Blanc de Blanc extra dry sparkling white wine. We sopped up every last bite of the delicious escargots garlic butter with the toasted crostini's and warm baked bread. We shared two Entrees: the catch of the day Mahi Mahi prepared "Waterzooi" served with lump crab in a lobster Brandy cream sauce which was exquisite and the Truffle Mac which was gourmet comfort food at it's best. Needless to say we did not leave a bite of anything on our plates. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We will definitely return and look forward to sampling more savory meals at Max's on Broad.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Max’s this year. Neither of us had been before and it was a great first. Overall, we had a very nice & memorable experience. It is a beautiful restaurant. Amazing interior of wood scaffolding, multiple levels of dining and tasteful decorating and artwork, not gaudy or pretentious. First song we heard at dinner was Phil Collins, which was a fun juxtaposition to the fancy setting. Fine dining without the fluff. All staff were very pleasant and did a good job of serving us without hovering, as my wife and I were in the mood to be with one another, not make new friends. The food was delicious, not too rich, just all around creative, upgraded spins on what you would normally expect. I also noticed that the menu was relatable, not filled with ostentatious meals I don’t recognize or wouldn’t eat if dared. The apple pie was absolutely the best I have ever had in my life and I am not exaggerating. We look forward to returning soon! I hope the many good restaurants like this in Richmond make it in the final months of this pandemic.

Food was good overall; the duck breast was fantastic. Wish I had ordered something other than the short rib for myself (It was good just not great like the duck breast). Service was ok; our server was friendly just not overly responsive.

We shared a variety of appetizers during our dinner. The fried oysters were truly amazing! Roasted cauliflower, escargot, and strawberry salad were also good. I enjoyed a mocktail that our server recommended. I love that Max’s has options for mocktails. Some restaurants are really not prepared with a list or suggestions from their servers. As a pregnant foodie I love a restaurant who can make great beverages. At the end of the dinner I mentioned to our server that I loved the decaf coffee she served. She ended up giving me a small bag to take home and I thought that was such a nice touch! The coffee was served with a delicious chocolate bread pudding. Overall we always have a great meal here!
