Max's on Broad Ratings and Reviews
After enjoying a great breakfast there one weekend we took friends from out of town there for dinner. We were really disappointed. For $120 for a couple the food my wife and I got was just bland. Nothing exceptional. The cheesecake had little flavor.
The service was friendly but forgetful. We had to find our server to order coffee, cream, extra drinks, multiple times before we got it.
Lovely restaurant but the main component has to be great food; especially at that price. We were very disappointed.
Made brunch reservations for my mom’s birthday. The ambiance of Max’s is very impressive but the food and service is a little underwhelming. We ordered scrambled eggs for my daughter and they came to the table as over easy . The waiter told us to just mix them up for her instead of taking them back to get fixed. Overall the food is fine but pricey for what you get.
We had a nice dinner and experience. The waitress was great and offered us a complimentary glass of champagne as it was our anniversary. We got salmon and Scallops. The salmon was ok. The scallops were delicious and salad was great! It was kind of a mixed bag but we would go back. The atmosphere is cool and all in all, we had a very nice evening!
Food was great. Service started good but then went downhill. After the meal we ordered after dinner drinks that came out with double the alcohol and double the price. Then it took a long time to get the check and pay. Also, ordered desert that never came. Finally, person I was with had a bad knee and was told ladies room was upstairs- after making it up/down learned there was one downstairs.
The waiter said the soup of the day was a French Vegetable Soup. What was served was a Chicken soup that tasted liked doctored up can soup. It was also very salty. Very unenjoyable.
To the waiters credit, he did ask if I wanted something else.
Main entree was sliced pork onto of a bed of farro. The meat was over cooked and tough. The farro was overly seasoned with garlic.
Was underwhelmed with the menu selection. Went with the duck breast (all 3 at the table did) and all asked for medium-rare. Duck breast was beyond rare, way undercooked. The kitchen clearly does not know the difference between rare and medium-rare; or doesn't care.
We always enjoy a meal at Max's. Zachary was our server and he was very attentive and knowledgeable. We shared a fresh and always delicious Caesar salad and had the Steak Frites with grilled shrimp. The steak was prepared to a perfect medium rare. My husband would have preferred a ribeye with this dish but it was very good .
We'll be back. We love the valet parking option.
This was one of the worst experiences I have EVER had in a restaurant. We dined here for restaurant week and the food was horrific in appearance and taste. Everything was luke-warm and flavor-less. My entree (chicken fricassee) looked like chicken from a can (and tasted worse). To top off our dinner I ordered the cheesecake (listed as "berry cheesecake" on the menu. It came out with what appeared to be almonds on top. I asked the served if the dessert had nuts, I'm allergic. He apologized and returned with a "nut free" slice. Failing to mention the ENTIRE CRUST is made of nuts. I spent the entire evening and following day violently sick. Not to mention I'm pregnant and cannot take the appropriate allergy medication. I will NEVER dine here again.
We had a very nice waiter. The busboy cleared the bread plates before we had finished. He cleared the plates before everyone at the table had finished their dinner. This is the second time I have had an unsatisfactory dining experience at this restaurant. I will not be returning.
We came here for our engagement dinner the night of, and upon arrival we were asked if it was a special occasion. Upon sharing with the hostess, she let our waiter know, and he made sure we had a perfect night! The food was beyond delicious as always, and we even got a dessert on the house to celebrate our special night. Everything was perfect! We love Max's!
We have always enjoyed Max's but we do not like to go there late on weekends when it is really busy - my daughter always gets the same thing (the chicken) and this time it was served with half the amount of vegetables/potatoes and it was obvious there wasn't a lot of time spent on preparing the dish than it has been at non-busy times. So we will go on a weeknight or sometime slower. It is still really good food and a nice atmosphere.
Had early dinner after attending a matinee on Sunday. The poutine was fab. Loved the small fries rather than the large ones I have had with this dish. Lovely, smokey flavor provided by the bacon. We 3 devoured it! Excellently sized portion for 3. The shrimp and grits provided a tasty bit of comfort food. Very filling. I shared with my companions. The scallop dish was meager for my 6'4" "healthy eater." Good thing I had gotten the shrimp and grits. Escargots were delish; however, only one "well" had nothing in it but sauce? Felt cheated. The pear and arugula salad had a nice dressing. Overall, excellent service and a nice view. My first visit after having heard much about it.
Excellent place for brunch! Food was fantastic, service was good. If it weren't so hot (come on, October, where are you?!), it would have been perfect! Also, we dressed up a little because the site said "business casual", but there were guests there in shorts and t's. One of the servers was even wearing overalls...
