The Alex Craft Cocktail Cellar & Speakeasy
A unique and unexpected addition to the prestigious Georgetown neighborhood of Washington DC, Maxime proves that a French restaurant can be much different from the preconceived notion of a stuffy, low-energy, high-priced establishment one might expect.
Imagine a fun, comfortable gathering place that artfully combines delicious French cuisine with an energetic, upscale bar surrounded by stylish decor with a neoclassical flair.
Maxime invites you to experience an authentic brasserie atmosphere with French hors d’oeuvres – with delicious mussels, an expansive list of specialty beers, and cocktails. Dinner features our prix fixe centerpiece dish, Steak Frites, served with our signature “secret” sauce. Other menu options include a carefully chosen selection of fish and vegetarian dishes.

One of the four meals order never arrived.
Follow-ups with the server did nothing to rectify the issue.
The manager never apologized but offered a "free" dessert.
A very unsatisfactory experience.
Great meal, nice service!
Visit Maxine every time in DC- not necessarily for the food, but love the venue. Maxine is very cool and cozy and has a huge fireplace- perfect for a pizza, mussels, and cocktail. Great fries too!
Delicious meal on Christmas Eve. Service was great. Management lovely. Would recommend and return. Bonus was a big beautiful fireplace!
I love this place. Great food and cozy environment and service.
Cool drinks, horrible service, and terrible food. The ambiance is very nice, but besides that this place isn’t good. I would only come here if you’re looking to drink before the bars, definetly not somewhere to go to get good food.
Nice French style bistro in Georgetown. Bistro classics are well prepared. There is fresh baked bread and croissants. Also crepes prepared in open kitchen. We enjoyed a very nice brunch. Did I mention the wood burning fire on a cold day.
Great atmosphere, service, food; good value overall!
Very good onion soup. Great hamburgers. Attentive service between the host and server. Had window seat for people watching.
Exceptional evening and food delicious. We had Steak frites, Mussels, smoked Salmon and fous gras. Kate was an attentive server. Crystal made great XMAS shooters after dinner at the bar. Looking forward to next visit
Food was disappointing. Our waiter was pleasant . They were out of one of the bottles of wine we ordered , not nicely substituted a better wine at the lower price.
Since our last visit quality appears to have slid. Food was good, some very good, but the flank steak was correctly cooked but cool and the mussels' broth weak. Service was pleasant but uneven, and their not knowing who gets what at a table of two is a puzzling situation. All in, it scratches an itch and we'll go back, but probably not as soon as we otherwise would.
An Americanized-French restaurant in Georgetown; the service was excellent and staff were extremely friendly and helpful; if you have eaten in France before you will be disappointed, otherwise you won’t know the difference. Two thumbs up for the french onion soup though.
Just ok. Food was good but service was lackng. Had to alert the manager that we had not seen a waiter. After sitting for slmost 10 minutes! Not impressed!
Food was basic French bistro, featuring steak frites and moules. Service was good, prices were very reasonable, and menu included both sandwiches and entrees. Atmosphere comfortable and friendly.
Took a chance after strolling by that afternoon. GOOD Choice! Quick seating from our Open Table Reservation, right by the cozy fireplace, saw a waiter and then our server for the evening, very quickly as well. Kate, our server was very polite and engaged and tried hard to make sure everything was up to our expectation. The menu offers many interesting choices, and The Moule's Frites was superb, as were the onion soup and the escargot. All in all, we had a great time, thanks to Kate, and staff, and Chef(!) and we will definitely return as often as we are in Georgetown
Love it! Best value in Georgetown- the fixed price steak dinner is a steal at $20.95. My go-to in Gtown.
Love the atmosphere and their menu. Great neighborhood place to go
Overall great service; delicious food and nice atmosphere
Great ambiance, great food, reasonable prices! I have wanted to try the place for a while and am happy I finally got the opportunity.
Server was below average, very tight seating, however the food was great!
I enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing lunch with a friend. It was her first time at Maxime and she indicated she'll be returning for another meal when her mother arrives from overseas.
The service was outstanding. The server allowed us time to dine in quiet and enjoy each other's company; however, he was always there to refill cocktails and share a smile.
Been here several times before and it’s always been mediocre but good enough for an inexpensive meal before or after a movie but this time it’s was even less than mediocre and totally overpriced for what it is. Ordered mussels - portion was tiny, mussels were the smallest I’ve ever seen and many were stringy and impossible to pull away from the shell. Waiter took them back and took them off the bill so I ordered a burger medium rare which came medium/well done and was soooo salty. Won’t be back and would not recommend. Much better places to eat in the area for same or less money.
Dinner was good and decently priced, but dessert was ridiculously over priced. I paid $11 for cake/ice cream, and the cake was the size of a cupcake and the "scoop" of ice cream was about the size of a butter ball on a stack of pancakes. It was good, just felt like a rip off. It was more than half the cost of my meal, yet there was very little to it. Still, dinner was good and I'd eat there again; I'd just know to pass on dessert.
Maxime has always been on of our favorite spots for good French cuisine. However that last time we have been somewhat disappointed by the dishes. It was as if they had changed the Chef. The "Camembert en Croute " was cold inside (we had to send it back and they eventually sent another one); the house dressing didn't taste as authentic as it used to be. Hopefully they will get their good savors back. Finally, our waiter seemed a little lost with the dishes, didn't seem to know them that much.
I did not enjoy the food, at all. What was supposed to be a baked Brie in pastry (think flaky, crispy crust oozing with delicious warm Brie) was a soggy, hockey puck sized ball of cold glue It was disgusting. Rather than removing my plate and removing the charge from my bill, they replaced it with another plate of soggy, cold glue.
I would never go back.
Came here on a Saturday morning for brunch with my sister and mom before a day of wedding related activities, and I can honestly say all three of us had a lovely time. We all did the bottomless mimosa option, and our waitress was very prompt in refilling our glasses each time. Any modifications to our orders were correct when we received our food, and the quality of the meal was very high. Delicious way to spend a Saturday.
Food was a huge disappointment. Not authentic, overworked and over priced.
Wonderful experience, great Food, accommodating service, perfect for date and night out with friends
Long way to go before this place is up to speed. Waitress truly clueless. On arrival asked bartender if he had any French aperitifs. Apparently completely unfamiliar with the word and produced a bottle of Armanac. Found out from looking at dessert menu later that they had several, or claimed they did, including the not often found Byrrh and Suze.
Lovely French bistro on M street in Georgetown. Compares favorably to more expensive and more chain-oriented French bistros. Worth visiting and underappreciated.
Food was excellent
Our host was very helpful and friendly
The one thing that bothered this lively dinner was a sewage smell that did not disappear for my entire dining time at Maxime - unfortunate
So amazing! We can't wait to go back, the food and service were fabulous.
Had a lovely brunch here. The steak and eggs were very well done. Also enjoyed the bottomless mimosas. Yum. Good, attentive service. Good space. Would go back.
marvelous food and hospitality with friendly services.
Fantastic happy hour with half price drinks and food! Great service at the bar !
This was a decent Georgetown bistro with good food. Enjoyed the terrine to foie gras and the grilled salmon. Pizzas also looked tasty!
This was my first foray into French food and it was fabulous! I ordered an appetizer of mushroom caps stuffed with crabmeat and garlic butter sauce (Champignons Farcais au Crabe). These were served in a small cast iron pan and were delicious! For my entree, I had the grilled Scottish salmon, capers beurre blanc and veggies. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the veggies were fresh and tasty. There was just enough sauce to make it moist without drowning it and was perfect mopped up with the baguette they give you. I would most definitely return to this restaurant and will highly recommend it to friends.
cozy decor, friendly service, and delicious food. I would definitely go back when I'm town again. highly recommend to anyone looking for French comfort food.
Great brunch and a very nice Bloody Mary bar. The crepe station was very nice and th3e crepes were great
