Maxie's serves regional Southern cuisine from across the American South, including Cajun, Creole, and Carolina Low Country inspirations. Walking into Maxie's has been described as walking into a party in full swing — a boisterous, casual dining experience with an up-beat, lively feel to it. We serve craft cocktails, classic Southern cocktails, and local craft beer. We're conveniently located in the center of the Milwaukee metro area, right off I-94 and just south of Blue Mound Road.

Maxie's is home to Milwaukee's Happiest Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m., when Fresh-Shucked Oysters are just $1 and drinks are a Buck Off! Our BBQ spans from Eastern North Carolina, to East Texas Brisket, and St. Louis-Style Spare Ribs. Check out our Fried Chicken dinner (switching out for Fish Fry on Fridays), fresh seafood like Blackened Catfish and Pecan-Crusted Trout, and save room for dessert!

    We arrived a little early. Got to Maxie’s at 4 to partake in your happy hour. Enjoyed both the oysters and drinks before our dinner. We enjoyed our dinners, we will definitely return.

    Food was just okay. They got one of our orders wrong so one person had to wait. The portions are huge. The food is pretty bland and a lot of butter was used which made the dishes heavy. It’s very loud so if you don’t like a lot of noise may not be the place for you.

    The food was hit & miss. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. However, the shrimp & grits were not as pictured on the website. It’s drenched in a tomato sauce not a dark roux. Disappointing.

    Shrimp and grits was ordered with sausage as an extra. Shrimp was undercooked and no sausage. Fried chicken we ordered was dry as all heck I've had better out of an airfryer. Service was very poor and unatentive. Had to ask 3 different times for BBQ sauce. Drinks were decent. Good mojito, but unimpressed won't be back. Didn't even ask for a to go box nor were we offered one. I was glad when we were done with this horrible dinning experience.

    Food was awesome as always. Oysters for a buck each-Delicious! Our group’s meals consisted of:Pulled Pork, Hot Chicken, Shrimp n Grits & Mac n Cheese w pulled Pork. Everyone was more than happy w/ their meal. The service couldn’t have been better. Fast & friendly!

    Sorry guys…. Didn’t do it for me. Was seated next to the bar upstairs and watched two servers chatting with the bartender for over 10 minutes before we were greeted. Ordered a doz oysters that took 20 mins to get to the table (later heard another server tell another table there was only one shucker on duty). I wanted what any self-respecting brisket eater would want- brisket naked with just the rub, not soaked in bbq sauce. I did get it that way but it was over cooked, probably why it’s hidden in sauce. I had also ordered collard greens rather than the arugula and corn salad but got the salad instead. It was our first time at Maxies and unfortunately we decided it was a one and done for us.

    On this repeat visit to Maxie's, we continued to enjoy the absolutely delicious food and beverages, but were seated next to a very large (10+ people), very loud party near the front entrance, which made it nearly impossible to enjoy our own conversation. The team of servers for our table were friendly, but kept busy with the needs of the large group in the section, which detracted from the level of service provided to our party.

    Very nice service experience. The food was a bit bland for southern comfort food. Appetizers were more flavorful than the entrees. Drinks were above average. Full transparency we were an 8pm reservation so past prime dinner service hours and nearing closing time. Wait staff was a 10/10. Knowledgeable and personable. Quick moving yet very service forward. Loved the ambiance and small details that make you want to come back and give the food another try.
