Max Gill and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Order took 40+ minutes after ordering to come out and the server didn’t keep us abreast of the timing .
We had to ask for the salads and she seem d surprised they hadn’t come out yet.
The server seemed new or just uninformed. We asked if you had sparkling water and she had no idea what that was.
So sad as I’ve loved the restaurant for years and several friends have felt the service and food is suffering.
Hope this helps.
My wife and I have dined at Max Gill and Grill many times before in the past and have enjoyed it very much. The chicken chopped salad has always been very special. Good size portion, corn bread croutons, etc. Not so this time! Small portion, no croutons, not sure the salad had everything mentioned in the menu, nothing special and certainly not worth $16. I had the "large" crab cake sandwich. Here again, small portion, nothing special, and not worth $18. The waitress was very nice. We were very disappointed in the meal and we're not planning on returning very soon.
We were staying in Denver for a vacation and we so pleased to find Max Gill & Grill on open table. Food and service was excellent. It is a sports bar so some areas were very loud, but the restaurant accommodated is by sitting us in a section so we could have a good conversation with our family.
I have been coming here for years and have always loved my meals. However, this time I ordered the $27 scallops and was disappointed. For that price I expect perfectly cooked seafood. What I got was overcooked, quite chewy scallops. My friend also ordered that dish and could not finish them for fear of choking on them. Had there been more than 3 scallops on my plate, I would have sent them back. But I didn't bother.
We have eaten here many times over the years and have never been disappointed .
This time not only was the food excellent, we also sat at the front window and were continuously entertained by the straw witch with the basket of candy and the curious passers by :)
Had a great first meal at Max Gill and Grill. We had Oysters & King Crab and the Surf & Turf and other than the lobster being slightly overcooked it was fantastic. My 6 year old got a great piece of Salmon w/ some french fries off the kids menu and it was one of the best kid's meals I've seen in terms of quality food. All in all a good find and will be back.
Our waitress did not do a good job at explaining the menu. My fiancé and I ordered the calamari grilled and it came out like a steak. My girl friend order the breakfast sandwich and it came out on a hamburger bun and the menu you read a croissant. The manager was super unhelpful and just said that they had ran out of croissants which is why the kitchen used a bun something else our waiter did not tell us.
Overall it was over priced and the food was horrible.
Planned a special birthday celebration flying in from Indianapolis because we had a great experience here several years ago. Unfortunately, except for our excellent server Brittany, the experience was less than stellar starting with tiny wobbly table in corner to bad fish / overcooked risotto selection chosen by birthday boy. Mgr. Steven did come over and talk to us, comping 2nd meal, but we were disappointed with this visit. When in Denver again, we will still try Max's again in hopes of a better meal. The ribs are always a good choice.
We had a great experience at Max Gill and Grill! Our server, Julie(?), was AMAZING! She was super friendly, attentive, kind...and more. We would come back just for her. I mentioned in passing that it was my mom's birthday so she put a candle in mom's Creme Brulee and came out singing, "Happy Birthday!"
The food and atmosphere were great but the service is what will bring us back again!
Max Gill and Grill is always our favorite and best choice for seafood in Denver. The cioppino is always delicious (though slightly different this time around) and the lobster special was excellent. We especially enjoyed our steamed clam appetizer (killer broth!), and the happy hour prices for this and our drinks. The service was stellar and the patio is a lovely place to enjoy a warm evening. This was our 35th anniversary celebration for ourselves and we loved it!
Disappointing - overworked crab which is typical for restaurants but usually not for restaurants charging $18 for a crab cake sandwich. Rest of party was underwhelmed as well- shrimp etouffee and lobster roll. There is a much more careful seafood restaurant in town that respects the ingredients, starts with a J.
Very disappointing. When we had tacos a few years ago they were delicious. This time they were bland. No spice, no sauce, just naked meat on lettuce. The server seemed unconcerned, oblivious. The place was not crowded so we were surprised by slow service and poor food. This used to be a favorite place, but it's unlikely we will go again.
Awesome hidden gem! Forget downtown, forget The Highlands, this place has it all. Friendly staff, delicious creative food, just a great vibe! Had dinner on the patio, then drinks and dessert at the bar. Even bought the cooking staff a round ( it was a choice on the dessert menu) and one of the cooks came out to thank us. New favorite place!
The decor and vibe and Max is good, but the food is just ok. We opted to sit on the patio, which was nice and relaxing until a raccoon showed up arms length away from my husband in a tree. Although very cute and seemingly harmless, the presence of a raccoon so close to our table was off putting. The staff were as curious as we were to see what the raccoon was up to and one by one came out to "check in" on the status of the little beast. Food was obviously of secondary importance. The fish tacos were plentiful but lacked flavor--almost as if someone forgot the seasoning. The shrimp étouffée was bland and unattractive. Luckily our server was awesome and had a good sense of humor about our dinner guest, and the drinks were decent. We'd love to have a good seafood place near us and will give Max another shot--maybe next time we'll opt inside.
Ordered special, prime rib. Spouse ordered seafood in a cream tomato sauce over pasta. His dish had zero tomato flavor and was pasty. My rib when it came was this grey unattractive overcooked flavorless piece of meat. Sent it back. Mgr came over to apologize stating meat is precooked so ordering rare is not to be. I was annoyed and stated wouldn't be back. A mistake, ordered a burger to replace rib and it took over 40 minutes to arrive. I threw it out. Lesson to be learned, never state not planning on dining in establishment again until you receive the replacement dish!
