Max Gill and Grill Ratings and Reviews
The crab appetizer was great. The crab cake sandwich was served on some sort of wonderbread bun (meaning cheap, soggy and gross.) Some sort of nice bun or bread would've been much better, as the crabcake itself was good. About 1/4 of my fries were cold, the other 3/4 parmesan truffle fries that were warm were great. The food took about 30 mins. to arrive, which was a long time, considering it was early on a Sunday evening. Overall, it was ok, and though I've been eating here for years, the slow service and food taste have me visiting less and less. Wash Park Grill is still the best of their restaurants.
15 minutes before any service after being seated and then only because I asked a waiter who turned out to be the manager . Who apologized and said he'd make it right for us (which he never did. After ordering it took another 15 minutes before I hit my byob Bloody Mary and another 19 minutes before getting our brunch entrees.
My wife's fish n chips were cold. My Benedict was was warmer.
Took a long time to get our check and longer still to get it processed. The place was moderately busy with many open tables, so not the reason for such slow poor service.
We were anticipating this would be a great place so all the more disappointing.
We went on a Thursday evening and they had Happy Hour all day. Their special for Happy Hour was $1 ribs. The ribs were succulent, moist and well seasoned, with a choice of 2 sauces...sweet or spicy. The spicy BBQ was delicious, with just the right amount of heat. They also had discounts on their alcoholic beverages. Their Happy Hour menu offered a good variety of dishes and beverages. N
Our booth was good, but directly in front of the door, so with freezing temperatures/no buffer, we were frequently blasted with cold air throughout the meal. The waiter was invisible for most of the dinner - as an example, we ordered wine for dinner, which didn't arrive - until after a 2nd request from the hostess - until we were 1/2 way through our meal. The food was ok, but overpriced for what it was, and one of our party's meals - a cobb salad, was anything but a cobb salad - mostly greens and little else. We will not return again.....too bad, as it used to be much better - both overall food/service.
This was our first time at Max and while we enjoyed the decor and atmosphere the food was bland and lacking (shrimp etoufee had very few actual shrimp and needed lots of salt, and the grouper was also quite bland and the brussel sprouts ragout was just unappetizing) and we felt, overpriced. We also ordered the crab dip appetizer in the bread bowl and could only taste cheese (and found no crab). It is probably a nice place for drinks and maybe appetizers but reaches when it comes to their dinner menu. Disappointed because we are looking for a local, delicious seafood place.
We love going to Max's, but this time it was a little different- We arrived right on time for our 7:00pm reservation, but it took 40 minute to be seated. The manager was kind enough to provide our party of 6 a round of drinks- well done. Unfortunately however, the food took an additional 45 minutes after we put our order in. - so it was over an 1:30 minute before we had dinner- the food is usually "AMAZING", so much so that we make the drive from Golden to enjoy. Yet this time...not so much. We hope this is a one-time occurrence as we do love this place.
We sat in the outdoor garden, which is a great spot on a beautiful evening. The seafood selection is broad and the food is well prepared. The bisque soup was 5 star. I've had the clam chowder and it's just as good. Good, friendly service. A nice relaxing atmosphere. We'll be back!
Service was a bit slow on this night -drinks keep running out and empty cups sitting for a bit before we saw our waitress and our appy was a bit of a fiasco that the manager did end up crediting us back on but all and all it was a good experience. Usually though it is much better.
I personally love how they give an option on the dessert menu to buy the kitchen staff a round of beers. I think this says how much the owner values his/her employees and we definitely participated! They have a new chef that hails from Louisiana and his crawfish etouffee is amazing! Definitely recommend it!
We started off with oysters from Maryland they were prepared nicely and the steamed clams came in a broth that was Devine. Dicky served us and he was on top of his game in the bar area. We then went to eat dinner in the dining area. We had Caesar salad which was awesome and lobster bisque which was very good. For entrees we had king crab, lobster and seafood pasta. I enjoyed our time from the moment we arrived, Josh was our server and he was very personable.
The skillet tasted great but came out in a small cast iron skillet. No toast, no garnish. Small serving and was $15.00! We left hungry. My chopped salad didn't come with the cornbread that it used to, so my $16 salad was less filling, and presentation was spartan. This was our favorite restaurant but now we are questioning it and disappointed. Seems cheap. 😞
Great dinner with wife and grandson! Chris, our waiter was outstanding - blackened grouper special worth the price. Wife ordered ahi tuna but did not like the way it was prepared; ordered a burger (amazing!) with no charge on the tuna! Will go again when in Denver!
Used a Groupon to check out Max. The Groupon does not include any happy hour drink or app specials or general specials. We arrived an 1/2 early for dinner (4pm) so we ordered the Lobster flatbread to start off. It was ok, the lobster was very fishy (1 would saw maybe 1 claw cut thin ) and the middle of the flatbread was soft. For dinner we ordered the top sirloin and Cioppino. The top sirloin was not cooked to the order, and drenched in the blue cheese butter sauce, it came with 4 small roasted potato halves and we exchanged the cauliflower with asparagus. The Cioppino was not to my expectations for the price. It included 4 small shrimp, 4 mussels- no little neck clams (heard to waiter at the other table state they ran out), 3 small strips of calamari steak (the total size of your index finger), and 1/2 of a small lobster tail that was so tough I could not get it out of the shell. The waitress asked if I wanted to add linguini to it for an extra $2.00 to help soak up the broth. It was served with 1 piece of soft Italian bread. Over all I received maybe 3 oz of seafood. We passed on the dessert. If we wanted to order the Sunday Prime rib special it was not available. We were told that it was not cooked and not be ready until around 6:00! The waitress was very nice and the service was good.
My girlfriend and I wait here last Sunday. We were greeted probably and taken to her seat. The gentleman that saddest down actually said to us we're glad you're here. Don't hear that everywhere you go. Josh was our waiter he was great. The food was outstanding period we went in for Restaurant Week and we will be going back has regular customers. Great food great atmosphere just an overall nice place to be.
