Max Gill and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Ordered special, prime rib. Spouse ordered seafood in a cream tomato sauce over pasta. His dish had zero tomato flavor and was pasty. My rib when it came was this grey unattractive overcooked flavorless piece of meat. Sent it back. Mgr came over to apologize stating meat is precooked so ordering rare is not to be. I was annoyed and stated wouldn't be back. A mistake, ordered a burger to replace rib and it took over 40 minutes to arrive. I threw it out. Lesson to be learned, never state not planning on dining in establishment again until you receive the replacement dish!
We hadn't been to Max Gill and Grill for at least a year because they changed the menu back then and we didn't like the new menu. Also, the fish was dry the last few times we'd been there. I looked online and saw that the menu had changed again, more resembling the old menu, so we gave it another go. I'm glad we did. My fish was moist and very good, as well as the rest of my meal. The server was great, too. We will definitely go back again.
Awesome service! Our waiter was genuinely nice and had a welcoming tone.
We had excellent knowledge of products and had great recommendations. Food didn't take long and was tasty as excepted. Music was on point!
We will be back again soon! Thanks for making our experience a memorable one!
This is the third time we have visited Max Gill and Grill for their seafood selection and we had a very good experience. Our waitress was very attentive, regularly changing our plates as we went through the seafood. The Maine Lobster and King Crab Leg were again very fresh and delicious. We also had crayfish and snowcrab clusters, which were okay, nothing to write home about.
I had dinner there on Friday past. I asked to sit on the patio which we did. The music was really too loud (and right over our head) so we requested that they lower it. It happened again so they turned it off. My friend is quite deaf and it interfered with her hearing aids. Everyone was very
nice and made us feel at home. Oh, I liked the menu and the types of food available. I will definitely go there again.
Normally a big fan of Max Gill n Grill but our recent experience took our enthusiasm down a couple notches. They have a great happy hour and location. Our dinner was hit or miss with some items as we remembered and others falling short. The service was suspect and we just didn't feel like the staff wanted to offer anything more than repeated apologies for missing or wrong food items, inattentiveness and overcharges on the bill. Not expecting them to write off our dinner but a gift card would have gone a long way to say thanks for being a return customer and a much more thoughtful apology for what hopefully was a one-off experience.
We have been here on several occasions and usually our experience has been positive on the whole. However, our experience wasn't that great this time, although the food was very good. We were seated just off the patio with the garage door (that opened onto the patio) open on a breezy rather cool day, so I had to have my jacket on the whole time we were there. There was also a large party of 12 right next to us so of course quiet conversation was out - I don't know why we were seated there as there was space elsewhere that was quieter. I ordered the more expensive pinot noir, and it tasted like it had been open for too long. I tried to catch our server's attention but just gave up because he was too busy with the big party - very disappointing. Service was slow in general, though our server was very nice. We had a coupon which is why we chose to go here, but don't know that we'll go again for awhile, there are plenty of other restaurants and perhaps the competition can do better.
Been here many times, but seem to be having some pretty systemic service issues. Apps order not placed and we did not get them until we were done with dinner; server had tables in separate parts of restaurant and was overwhelmed with table asking for separate checks leading to not delivering drinks; entree came without sauce; Brussels ragout had no Brussels to speak of; same issues for table next to us. Manager never came by to discuss.
Mother's Day dinner. Service was not good as we waited 15 min even to be greeted at the table. Another 1 hour for food once we ordered. Restaurant wasn't even busy for an early dinner. Multiple people helping us that didn't know what the other one was doing. Great food but poor service doesn't make us want to go back.
I was disappointed with my recent experience. I have been here before and had a great meal. However, this time was completely different. Let me preface by saying that this visit was on Mother's Day. First of all, the restaurant only had the buffet option and didn't not serve anything from the regular menu. I visited their website a couple of days before and there was no mention of that. Secondly, the service was extremely slow. It took 25 minutes for our waiter to get our drink order. Lastly, the buffet was delicious, but I had to ask the staff to bring clean plates out because all of the plates were dirty. Overall, I wish I would have gone someplace else for my birthday celebration.
We went here for brunch on Mother's Day and were really disappointed. They only do a buffet brunch on four holidays, this being one of them. They just didn't have the various food options stocked well and while it was supposed to be Louisiana style, it was really pretty bland. We will not be returning again. It was too pricey for the quality. Wash Park Grill is a much better choice for the price and the quality of food.
Mother's Day reservation for six with two high chairs. Was seated at a booth for four with one rickety high chair that was about to fall apart and you couldn't get into the booth with the high chairs at the end. Also next to a high traffic area so customers going to the crappy buffet had to wait in single file to pass by the table.
The buffet was a mess with no room to set plates, while holding the serving utensils and the tray lids. Food was average to middling.
The one bright spot was the waiter that did find us a better table for six after 30 minutes and was on the spot as far as checking on us.
This is not the first bad experience I've had at Max. They need to seriously upgrade their patio furniture and decor which feels broken down and grimy as opposed to quaint.
I'm not sure that I've enjoyed this place since they changed the name from Hemingway's to Max.
The crab appetizer was great. The crab cake sandwich was served on some sort of wonderbread bun (meaning cheap, soggy and gross.) Some sort of nice bun or bread would've been much better, as the crabcake itself was good. About 1/4 of my fries were cold, the other 3/4 parmesan truffle fries that were warm were great. The food took about 30 mins. to arrive, which was a long time, considering it was early on a Sunday evening. Overall, it was ok, and though I've been eating here for years, the slow service and food taste have me visiting less and less. Wash Park Grill is still the best of their restaurants.
15 minutes before any service after being seated and then only because I asked a waiter who turned out to be the manager . Who apologized and said he'd make it right for us (which he never did. After ordering it took another 15 minutes before I hit my byob Bloody Mary and another 19 minutes before getting our brunch entrees.
My wife's fish n chips were cold. My Benedict was was warmer.
Took a long time to get our check and longer still to get it processed. The place was moderately busy with many open tables, so not the reason for such slow poor service.
We were anticipating this would be a great place so all the more disappointing.
We went on a Thursday evening and they had Happy Hour all day. Their special for Happy Hour was $1 ribs. The ribs were succulent, moist and well seasoned, with a choice of 2 sauces...sweet or spicy. The spicy BBQ was delicious, with just the right amount of heat. They also had discounts on their alcoholic beverages. Their Happy Hour menu offered a good variety of dishes and beverages. N
