Max Fish Ratings and Reviews
Relatives were visiting from out of state. We took them out to Max Fish for a lovely dinner after seeing a show in Hartford. It was a wonderful experience. The food was creative, delicious and memorable. The wait staff was great about accommodating my mother - who cannot eat gluten or dairy. Very satisfied!
Two of my three children with their partners and I celebrated my husband's 75th birthday. We were given a nice corner table where we didn't have to worry about disturbing neighboring tables, there was something for everyone on the menu, and the food was delicious! We highly recommend MaxFish for special occasions!
The Max group of restaurants never disappoints and our Sunday dinner was no exception. My wife was very pleased with her Sea Scallops and, for the most part, my Ahi Tuna was very good. One small complaint.... there was an unnecessary amount of connective tissue in the tuna and I had to, discreetly, deposit three unchewable portions on my plate. This was a minor blip in an otherwise wonderful meal. Will be going back to Max Fish
Amazing waiter who was professional but a lot of fun too. My husband had the oyster selection as an appetizer which was 2 from each kind they had. He is a snob about fresh seafood. He said they were probably the freshest oysters he has ever had. All in all our meals were terrific followed by very tasty Creme Brûlée. Nice place, very good food!
The overall experience at Max's Fish was outstanding.
The lobster bisque was tasty. The scallops and the lobster roll
were both top notch.
Christina, our hostess, was very accommodating to my disabled
Mom as she held the door for us. Mark, our waiter, was very attentive
as he repeatedly filled coffee mugs and water glasses.
All in all, it was very much worth our 45 mile round trip from
Wallingford to Glastonbury.
I heartily endorse this restaurant and I can't wait to return.
One of our favorite restaurants. Always a good selection of fresh local/regional seafood. Excellent service.
,,,, the single malt Scotch selection is above average,,,, but so are the prices. Otherwise apps and entree selection pricing is in line with the quality of preparation and service.
Great place if you want an upscale place to enjoy a healthy meal with trendy recipes and drinks. I have dined alone, in business setting, family affair, date night, and friends get togethers. Expect to pay more especially if ordering drinks, but you will have a special, memorable dining experience.
Food portions were a lot smaller than in the past. 2 people had the bouillbase but they were very different portion sizes, which was disappointing. Delicious but portions were too small. My husband had the linguini with clams, so little pasta & clams you could see bottom of bowl.
This last visit was disappointing. I haven’t been to a Max’s since last year. The salmon was requested to be blackened, it came out not only not blackened but not cooked. It was returned and brought back blackened this time but still too raw to eat. The waiter graciously took the salmon off the bill but it still didn’t prevent an unpleasant experience. I feel they are overpriced. The haddock special on 11/9 was a flat, small filet, with little flavor. The staff members are very pleasant, and attentive, but be careful what you order.
Birthday dinner couldn’t have gotten any better. Kudos to our fabulous waitress Rachel and trainee JB.
Our appetizer was the grilled octopus. Small portion not enough to share but grilled to perfection and so tender and tasty.
For dinner, I ordered the Arctic Char and it was perfectly grilled in lemon and olive oil over butternut squash risotto . Simply delicious. My cousin order the lobster over the same risotto and she loved her meal.
Now for the desert, OMG!! Ordered the Pecan Brownie with vanilla ice cream within warm caramel sauce. Holy cow! Worth every calorie.
Thank you Max for a wonderful birthday experience.
Should have requested a booth. Got seated at table barely 30 inches wide and a foot from the couple next to us. They knew it was a special occasion you would think we would have gotten a more private table. Took long time to take drink orders. Fish undercooked. Other than that service good.
The food was absolutely delicious. The food pairings really brought out the flavor of the main dishes. We were however a little disappointed at the service as our server accidentally poured water into my husbands drink, apologized and left to take care of the drink. It took very long to get a replacement drink and to top it off, the server only brought maybe two sips worth of a drink as that’s how much he thought was left before he poured water into the drink. When my husband ordered a different drink, it took a long time again for his next drink to come and when he took a sip of the drink, he said it wasn’t what he ordered. A few seconds later a different server came by and said our server grabbed the wrong drink order. Our previous experiences at Max Fish have been great but this one was a miss.
On this particular Saturday , we arrived 10 minutes early. We waited 5 minutes behind a crowd apparently engaging in long conversation with the host. There were 3 host personnel there.
While none in front of us started to move, there were other diners began to form longer line behind us in the shallow waiting area. My wife approached forward and told one of host staff that we had reservation in the hope that we could be accommodated sooner. Without any welcoming gesture, he directed my wife to keep waiting behind the sizable group who apparently had no reservation. Finally we were able to move in after long wait and that group was seated. We apologized to our awaiting guests already at our table.
To the restaurant managing team, I suggest recognition or priority be given to people who take the time to make reservation for their dining pleasure. None is given in this case.
