Max Fish Ratings and Reviews
This last visit was disappointing. I haven’t been to a Max’s since last year. The salmon was requested to be blackened, it came out not only not blackened but not cooked. It was returned and brought back blackened this time but still too raw to eat. The waiter graciously took the salmon off the bill but it still didn’t prevent an unpleasant experience. I feel they are overpriced. The haddock special on 11/9 was a flat, small filet, with little flavor. The staff members are very pleasant, and attentive, but be careful what you order.
Birthday dinner couldn’t have gotten any better. Kudos to our fabulous waitress Rachel and trainee JB.
Our appetizer was the grilled octopus. Small portion not enough to share but grilled to perfection and so tender and tasty.
For dinner, I ordered the Arctic Char and it was perfectly grilled in lemon and olive oil over butternut squash risotto . Simply delicious. My cousin order the lobster over the same risotto and she loved her meal.
Now for the desert, OMG!! Ordered the Pecan Brownie with vanilla ice cream within warm caramel sauce. Holy cow! Worth every calorie.
Thank you Max for a wonderful birthday experience.
Should have requested a booth. Got seated at table barely 30 inches wide and a foot from the couple next to us. They knew it was a special occasion you would think we would have gotten a more private table. Took long time to take drink orders. Fish undercooked. Other than that service good.
The food was absolutely delicious. The food pairings really brought out the flavor of the main dishes. We were however a little disappointed at the service as our server accidentally poured water into my husbands drink, apologized and left to take care of the drink. It took very long to get a replacement drink and to top it off, the server only brought maybe two sips worth of a drink as that’s how much he thought was left before he poured water into the drink. When my husband ordered a different drink, it took a long time again for his next drink to come and when he took a sip of the drink, he said it wasn’t what he ordered. A few seconds later a different server came by and said our server grabbed the wrong drink order. Our previous experiences at Max Fish have been great but this one was a miss.
On this particular Saturday , we arrived 10 minutes early. We waited 5 minutes behind a crowd apparently engaging in long conversation with the host. There were 3 host personnel there.
While none in front of us started to move, there were other diners began to form longer line behind us in the shallow waiting area. My wife approached forward and told one of host staff that we had reservation in the hope that we could be accommodated sooner. Without any welcoming gesture, he directed my wife to keep waiting behind the sizable group who apparently had no reservation. Finally we were able to move in after long wait and that group was seated. We apologized to our awaiting guests already at our table.
To the restaurant managing team, I suggest recognition or priority be given to people who take the time to make reservation for their dining pleasure. None is given in this case.
The greeter at 5:30 pm on this date could have been a little warmer in his greeting .But after that it was an A + experience.
It was my wife and I 7 th anniversary.
I had made reservations on line and asked for a booth and your manager / owner got us a booth !
Micheal was our waiter and had wonderfully refreshing professionalism.Great tips but never pushy ,and he never made us feel uncomfortable when we asked questions.
I even noticed he would be walking by at just the right pace as to offer us a chance to ask a question but not to interrupt our dining experience
We actually made reservations for Oct .2018 with a group of friends and we hope Micheal will be our server
Thank you for such a memorable evening at the Glastonbury Max Fish
P.S almost forgot to mention how spectacular the food was .
We had Lobster and steak and other wonderful treats
Compliments to the Chef please !
We were there at 3:30 after a craft show in the area. We wanted the dinner menu which was fine. There seemed to be a lot of confusion as to who was serving us we sat for a bit. Everything seemed to be rushed we have heard so many good things about this restaurant we were surprised at the service
My husband and I had brunch here to celebrate our anniversary. Wonderful wait staff and the food was delicious. It was not crowded as we went at 1:00 in the afternoon so there was no noise which we loved. We have dinner here several times and it never disappoints us. I had the salmon over risotto and it was yummy.
I recently had dinner at Max Fish with a friend on a Thursday night. The place was busy -- and loud -- at 6pm, but we were seated in the dining room which was quieter but still nice & lively (i.e., pleasant). The wine and cocktail list was good. I was able to get a glass of Sancere which I appreciated (i.e., not that many restaurants in the area offer it by the glass). Our waiter seemed new -- or flustered -- so service was OK, but not great (his timing was off -- he was either hovering too much/coming to the table too quickly or not around at all). The menu is extensive and the specials are placed on a small placard on the table which I really liked (i.e., nice to have them in front of you vs. having to remember what the waiter said). We both got salads to start, which were very good, and the swordfish special which was great. Dessert was good too. The food is solid, but be prepared for higher prices (at least compared to their sister establishment, MaxAmore). Not sure if the food/atmosphere is fully worth the price-tag, but Max is a solid, reliable choice. As with IBM, you won't be fired for picking MaxFish.
