It was truly a ethereal dining experience!! Most notebly, was our very informed and gracious waiter, Greg. Greg was very informative, attentive and accommodating!! In addition, the food was sublime!! I would definitely go back to Max Fish in the very near future!!
happy hour here is great. We sat down for drinks at the bar before dinner. Drinks were really good, as was the bartender. When we got over to our table the server was ok - didn't list specials just asked if we'd read them from a card on the table. He was very attentive, just not great. Order paella, shrimp was way overcooked - almost hard to eat. Aside from that, the rest of the food was really good.
The bar is noisy. There is a section sometimes used for private dining that you could request if you want a romantic chat or are hard of hearing.
Whether we go for happy hour or dinner, the food and service is always top notch,
I would recommend my friends to order food to go. The food was absolutely phenomenal everything was cooked and seasoned well. However, our waitress clearly did not feel comfortable serving us. I don’t know if it was because we were younger or two of us were of color. She consistently made sarcastic comments and did not offer us bread until after we ordered our meals.
Our server Rachel was excellent we were seated in a quiet portion of the restaurant I would highly recommend it.
Great service and food at the raw bar. The raw bar is a great spot to eat, socialize and see the staff in action.
Everything was delicious, from the Oysters Rockerfeller appetizer, through the entrees of scallops al a plancha and lobster pan roast, to the pavlova with cheese cake filling and sliced strawberries dessert! YUM!
Everyone was extremely friendly & welcoming. Great service and food.
Awesome overall experience with great food and drinks. Very pleasant and attentive waitress.
There is nothing special about Max Fish. This is our second time dining here. The first time was mediocre as well but we decided to try again. The decor reminds me of a diner, it is not upscale at all. The noise level was insane, hard to have a conversation across the table. Our waiter was cold and not at all personable. Very brief and seemed irritated. The food was good, but when spending $150 on a dinner for two, I expect more. Sorry to say we won’t be back.
Our meals and drinks were great and so was the service. We will definitely go back!
Alwsys top notch food
Max Fish was once again a hit. Our party had both fish and steak and everyone was pleased with the food quality. Great service and fun vibe.
Dining at max always a reliable enjoyable experience .
This is the place to go for a seafood dinner. Always delicious food and wonderful service.
We went around 430 pm on a Friday. Crowd by the bar but very pleasant. The food was great! I had the bass with a pineapple couscous. My husband had the tuna. Very tasty! Service was perfect. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely go back.
Very nice service here. However I was disappointed with my order of grilled octopus. I have ordered it several times here before and it was very good. This time it was very, very tough. I guess that should teach me not to order any strange fish on a Monday. They would have been better off saying they were out of it.
my wife and I had a Monday lunch, menu was great, service and food outstanding.
I enjoyed fish tacos and my wife a salad
It was excellent! Both my wife and I were extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service!
We include this restaurant in our rotation of Friday night dinner spots. We shared a crab cake appetizer which was delicious. We each ordered a special with the intention of sharing. The Branzino came whole fish which is ok but deboning was a challenge and it did not seem cooked close to the bone although it was tasty. The striped bass was pretty tasteless served on a bed of barley with some pineapple thrown in. The brownie and ice cream dessert was great. The specials were expensive and should have been top notch. Our experience is that the simplest preparations are the best here. Service was excellent.
5 Stars all the way tonight-The food is always outstanding-They were very busy tonight but Julia was wonderful and didn't miss a beat-Thanks and we will see you soon
There are no barriers to break up the noise so it got loud with every table occupied. The table diagonally across from us had about 10 people seated so they were forced to speak above a conversation level to converse with one another. Sound travels so when the large dining room is filled to capacity it will be noisy.
Oysters and calamari. Add a Bloody Mary and your golden
Bloody mary bar was missed many items and when asking servers they said we are out.
Waiter didn't know oysters very well.
Food was slow, very slow, coming out .
Beer ordered not available.
Manager and waiter argue at station when ready for check.
Beer on bill even when not available
Food and service were great!
Few area restaurants offer the wide selection that Max's Fish does, the reason I'll continue to recommend it. The restaurant is clean and vibrant; almost a little too noisy. Service is always very good. We have noted to ourselves that on our last few visits, meals were a bit bland. For example, while the Korean Paella was ample enough for a meal, there was little to no seasoning that made me believe I was eating a Korean dish. My recent meal of seared tuna was similar. The fish seemed to be unseasoned. And while the potatoes were piping hot, the rest of the meal was lukewarm. No busier than usual, our meal was served late. At the restaurant's price point, such comments are really not forgivable.
Our dinner was excellent as usual. I thought the service was good overall and we were able to dine comfortably with our 9 year old. A good time overall.
Max Fish was the perfect spot for a splurge, to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The quiet spot was a sweet place, tucked away from the main traffic areas. The GF menu was amazing for my daughter and I. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the serving sizes were more generous than expected. Thank you for the extra touch of s candle for the birthday boy!
Anniversary / did nothing ! 😩
Great meal , service great we were there for mine and my mother’s birthday and it was a great evening
As always, superb food, excellent attentive service. Max fish has never disappointed us. We continue to enjoy the fresh fish and different styles of meals.
Have been to Max Fish many times and consider it to be a favorite restaurant but after last night's dinner, it will be a while before I return. Had reservations at 6:30 on a Thursday night so didn't expect it to be super busy and should get good service and was loking forward to a good meal. I can tell you that we got neither. As anticipated the place was maybe half full and yet it too over an hour for a main meal to arrive. I attribute that to the waitress not taking our order until after our appetizers were finished. This was in addition to her not being present for nearly 5 minutes from when we were seated and although she took our order for drinks right then, they didn;t come until half trhough our oysters.
My wife was looking forward to getting one of the specials and after placing the order was then informed that they didn't have anymore of that entree (at 6:30, on a Thurssday) and she then ordered a dish that was $20 more! Her meal supposedley took longer to prepare but came out before my dish which when it did arrive, was warm at best.
Poor showing overall for what was, one of our favorite restaurants. Won't be going back there soon, too many other places we can spend our money.
Food is always excellent and they continually mix it up. Everyone working there is on top of their game. Only complaint is that it is sometime hard to get in!
Asha says “I had a good time. It put a smile on my face”.
Dinner for birthday celebration.
Wait staff was great! Attentive and helpful
Excellent menu options, food and service. Only criticism is that the shrimp in bouillabaisse was tough (probably over cooked); other wise everything was excellent.
My favorite restaurant in CT! I spent my summers in Newport, RI and this is one of the only places I can say remind me of the seafood I had growing up.
