Always a fun time. Max’s team always make sure they treat their guests perfectly. The new renovations were nice but not spectacular. With that said, there was nothing wrong prior to the renovations.
Terrific food, wine, and service.
The staff was excellent and was only surpassed by the food
One of the best meals and birthday celebrations I have been apart of.
Let me start by saying the service was excellent; ambiance was nice but a bit loud. Value is where things became disappointing. While our food was very good, it was very, very expensive. Sides are enough to share vs. the guidance of individual servings. Salads could also have been split. I hate to waste food and salads don’t last as leftovers. The kicker was the cost of the bone-in filet -excessively expensive and was not worth the price. We are HUGE fans of the Max Restaurants and will continue to support them.
The food was very good. The staff, from valet to reception to waitstaff was friendly, although waitstaff could have been a bit more attentive.
The big issues were:
The restaurant was cold. My party of three contained a 65 year old, a 70 year old and a 29 year old. We were all freezing. We asked for more heat, and we got a little, but it was still cold.
The background music was totally inappropriate. It was modern pop. I actually like some of the music which was played, but not appropriate for that venue.
The room seems sterile. A bit of warmth would be welcome. I realize that a portion of my objections are specific to me, and may not be a problem for most people. But I would not return.
We enjoyed a cocktail at the bar since we were early for reservation; Chris, our server was great, attentive, familiar with the dishes-
We really thought the background music was too loud and a noisy selection of soft rock- smooth jazz would be much nicer and more suitable for dinner and dinner conversation.
Crudo -- OK, but unremarkable and a bit skimpy.
Roasted beet salad -- Excellent
Duck breast + confit -- excellent, particularly the duck breat
Hanger steak/frites -- tasted even better than rib & sirloin steaks here. A nice surprise!
Service very pleasant, and not impatient or overbearing
We drank 2011 Tablas Creek Panoplie, which is not on the winelist.
To me, good wine choices (on the Max winelist) are overly pricey.
It seems to us that when you eat here you can predictably rely on an excellent meal, more so than at most restaurants costing a bit more to much more in NYC.
Everything was fantastic including our server, Tom.
The tables for two were a little cramped but again besides that everything perfect
Always a wonderful experience. Food is great service is wonderful.
Another great lunch...first time for one of our guests and everyone enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower appetizer.
fantastic service and food. made the birthday very special!
I recently went here for my 5 year anniversary. Our table was covered with rose petals with a lovely card. The food and service were excellent. We even tried a rare 25 year whiskey to reign in the special occasion. Overall, a memorable night! Thanks Max Downtown!
This is a must go!! 10's all around!
We were seated immediately upon our arrival; the waitress was at the table within a minute. The drinks were good; nice selection of beer and, of course, wines. We ordered the sea scallops dinner (with asparagus) and the lobster scampi. Both dishes were prepared well and were very tasty. They brought me a piece of coconut carrot cake for my birthday! Excellent dinner.
This was the best experience , my fiancé loved it .
Very disappointed. Won’t go back! Overpriced!
Always a great dining experience. My wife loves the steaks, there are plenty of other great choices for me. The wait staff is courteous, friendly and knowledgeable.
We’ve been customers since Max on Main opened. Each iteration is a good one, and the recent renovation continues a wonderful tradition.
excellent food, excellent service, expensive but worth it. very convenient to the XL center after a game.
We’ve been here before, which is why we’ll try it again. We had a reservation and had to wait just a few minutes which was ok. We were seated in a back room that was relatively quiet. The first thing the waiter asked us after we were seated and greeted was if we had to get to a show or game? Yes we did. We had a 6:30 reservation and had to be at the Bushnell at 8PM. We’ve done it many times and it’s not been a problem. Our waiter assurred us it wouldn’t be a problem.
I think the kitchen may have been backed up and he did have a large table next to us-who clearly were looking to get out as well. When they flagged him down for their check, we asked him to bring ours as well (it was 7:35). He brought back their check, dessert and spent time talking with them-which I do understand, but he had to go back and get our check and my husband went to get the car and our coats so that we wouldn’t be late.
If a restaurant is so crowded at 6:30 that you cannot be seated immediately, it’s probably safe to assume they may be overbooked. While the food was good, the service was really poor and I expect more from a Max’s restaurant.
Wonderful experience. Food was impeccable and the service first class - thanks, Tom!
The renovations at Max Downtown have transformed the place in fantastic way. The place is hopping and so vibrant! Bar scene is awesome! The new menu is great and they still have the iconic steak and fish items from the old menu. Can't wait to head back!
As we do with most special occasion's, we celebrated at Max Downtown. While it happened to be Valentine's Day, we were also celebrating my Dad's retirement. This special dinner had four adults and two kids. Come to find out, They had a prixe fixe menu, and the waiter checked to see if we could just order something off the menu for our 11 year old son. Unfortunately, I was surprised to see that they wouldn't allow us to order just a steak from the nights menu for our son. I am glad we fed our 8 year old daughter ahead of time, as it would have been another $75 to feed her as well (they did give her some fries at least). Never had a bad experience at Max's, and this was the first time we have ever brought our kids. Next time I guess we won't bring them. My son only wanted a steak, but we were stuck with having to order him an appetizer and dessert as well. Despite this inconvenience, The service was attentive as always and they even brought out a card for my Dad. The Food is always exceptional, and while I am a little disappointed by this experience, lesson learned that (even well-mannered and nicely dressed) children are not really welcomed here.
Our valentines dinner was amazing! I’m sad I can’t remember my waitress name because I wish I could express how great she was to us!! The entire staff was knowledgeable about everything, food, drinks, deserts. I really had a great time, so many laughs, even with the waiters. My noodles were a little under cooked which makes sense to happen on such a busy night but they made me a steak instead and I am very greatful for that! Thank you for making our valentines dinner amazing, we will be back!!
Came for Valentine's Day dinner. The pre-fixe menu was more than enough. There was a variety of choices for appetizer, entree, and dessert choices. We chose the beef carpaccio and oysters on the half shell for our appetizers. The beef was thin, tasty, over a creamy truffle sauce - one word to describe it; amazing. The oysters were Fisher's Island oysters, smaller than a Blue Point, but still just as delicious. I love the vinaigrette offering that comes with the oysters for a much different flavor than the traditional cocktail sauce addition. For entrees we got the sole and bacon wrapped duck breast. Both dishes were generous portions and delicious. To end the night, we decided on the chocolate hazelnut torte and Baked Alaska. The torte was rich and delicious, but the Baked Alaska was my personal favorite. The salted caramel ice cream paired with the meringue was the perfect way to end our meal. The service was impeccable throughout the night, never ran out of water and each of the staff members was kind and could explain any item on the menu in great detail.
Delightful Valentine's Day dinner. Seated in the back room and loved it. Excellent service and food. Gteat night.
This was a wonderful experience and our sever Able was phenomenal 5 star quality 👍
It was Valentine’s Day and the price was higher than normal but service was pretty good.
Max DTW always hits a home run with cuisine, atmosphere and service. The new interior makeover another plus. Latest visit was a lunch, which offers a better than most creative selection of entrees and sandwiches. The Organic Salmon BLT so fresh and delicious, smiley gumbo so smooth. And those butter-topped Parker House rolls -- just indulge cause so worth every guilty calorie.
Service was generally slow. There was a long wait to be seated - our reservation was for 7:15 and we were not seated until 7:30. It took longer than expected for our waiter to take our order and then for food and drinks to be served.
Everything was amazing!
Everything was great! Food and service was perfect.
Great vibe happening Saturday night spot for date night or a group of friends, highly recommend!
The ambiance was wonderful, the waiter was professional and patient.
Food was good. Nice restaurant to celebrate
Great service thanks to Abel! Great steaks! I had the filet mignon Oscar and the bf had the tomahawk steak. Both delicious! Great way to spend and enjoy a special dinner date! Will be back again.
It was a busy night. Our table waited for service throughout the night longer than I would expect at this price point. The servers could not really service our table well because of the location against a wall and narrow aisles. We had to pass the glasses down, etc. The food was good, but again, at this price point I expected more flavor, excellence. Maybe try it for lunch. Desserts were good.
Always great food!!! Always a great spot for dining, drinks and great food. Love the new restaraunt and hope to go back soon.
We experienced a great dining experience. Our server, Kyle, was very attentive and made our date night, exceptional. The food was also incredible. We will be back again, I'm sure.
