In 1991, Richard Rosenthal along with partner Brad Karsky opened Max a Mia in Avon, CT. Their vision was a restaurant that would allow diners to enjoy a "casual Italian bistro." That vision was an instant success. In the first year of operation, Max a Mia won "Best New Restaurant" from Connecticut Magazine. It also earned recognition for "top grossing restaurant in it's size" from Restaurant Hospitality. The brick oven, which is visible from the dining room, serves up stone pies "with a thin, wood-smoky-flavor crust and an array of toppings." While all the pasta dishes are outstanding, the daily risotto specials have been described as "luscious." Equally important, desserts such as traditional tiramisu or the unique white chocolate polenta cake complete the meal. Like it's sister restaurants, Max a Mia is focused on providing each guest with a truly enjoyable dining experience.

Max a Mia is one of our regular favorites and we eat there a lot. We have some dietary restrictions and they do a good job accommodating, not to mention having a separate gluten free menu for one of us. We sat at a nice table in the corner so it wasn't too noisy. The food was excellent as usual. My only critique from this visit was we felt the server wasn't very attentive. It wasn't poor service, but it would have been nice if she stopped by the table a bit more.

Just wonderful! Could not have had a better time and lunch. Kelsey was our server and ensured everything was just right on point. The calamari was served hot, was tender and my friend just loved the hot peppers. There was lots of sauce and we just so enjoyed. We each had the Tuscan salad; mine with the shrimp and he with the chicken. Dressing on the side and no olives; just as I order d and he with no olives and tomatoes just as he ordered. Once again, Max was right on point and we had a great time, great food, god wine and a delight time with sweet Kelsey. Max never lets you down!

I have eaten there three times and have always had a great meal.
We celebrated my Father in laws 93rd Birthday and he truly enjoyed his time.

An outstanding meal - the executive chef hit it out of the park with his veal milanese. I have had veal milanese in Milan Italy and this plate matches the flavor profiles and depth of the best in that city. I will be back soon for another plate! My wife loved the beet carpaccio salad! Service was excellent!

My wife loved the salmon, mussels and I enjoyed the chicken parmigiana. We were back in the area after moving away almost 20 years ago and it’s still as great as it was back then.

I've been to Maxamia's hundreds of times - it's always good there. On Friday night it was pretty crowded, and noisy and we had an inexperienced waitress. Things took much longer than usual. It was understandable. There is also a need to fix the area in the back of the main dining room - it simply smells bad and is a deterrent when one is eating. Maybe it's too close to the garbage area, the back of the kitchen? I don't know but I've noticed it more than once.

My meal was so bland, I was disappointed. I ordered pasta with shrimp, capers, tomatoes, and artichoke hearts - sounds good, right? It was totally flat, as if it hadn't even been salted. I added salt & pepper twice, and it didn't help the dish. We won't go back.

This has been my favorite restaurant for over 15 years now and they continue to impress and satisfy every single time. Their menu changes seasonally and they support local farmers and various other food suppliers so that is appreciated in all aspects of the dining experience.

This is the first time in awhile that I had lunch here. The lunch menu is not as robust as the dinner. My meal was not spectacular. Actually, I feel when someone raves about a great salad for a meal, that is a slight fail for a culinary destination. It won’t stop me from eating here, but I think that is why the place isn’t filled at lunch. Make the menu more exciting and more like dinner.

Italian with innovation....great flatbreads, pastas, and other entrees. Wine choices are also very good. Service is nice, and its a Max Restaurant Group establishment. Always good places when its a Max Restaurant!

Food was very good, clean restaurant and service was very good. Entree's took a little longer, but appreciated the fact that they were prepared well and food was fresh. Salads were crisp, cold and delicious!

Never a bad bite at my favorite local restaurant.
Fresh, well-prepped food, interesting menu, innovative bar concoctions, all overseen by the consummate professionalism of Brad Karsky adds up to damn near perfection.
Just look around -- all you see are folks enjoying themselves, with plenty of good, comestible reasons.

Dinner was fantastic as usual. Service was great from Justin was very attentive and amount of time he came around was perfect. Meals for the family was great. Had the chicken parmigiana and was cooked perfectly along with a small side of spaghetti (could use little more though). Overall great experience again.

Bread, garlic and tomato sauce and olives for the table were delightful. The chopped salad was good although it could have used less dressing. The eggplant lasagna was very good as was the shrimp and linguini.

We were at the restaurant to celebrate our friend's retirement. Dinner was delicious, service was great, and the atmosphere was perfect for four ladies to sit around and chat.

I have never been here before but I took my cousin for her 17th birthday and everything was perfect. I made a reservation online and they went above and beyond to make her birthday special without the horrid birthday restaurant singing. The service was great all the food we received was perfect. Freshly cooked ingredients. Making reservations was well worth it. Bread, appetizers, the dinner, and dessert we're all incredible. Our waitress was personable and she was there just enough, but not too much that you got sick of her lol. I will most certainly be going back!!!

Food came out late even though restaurant wasn’t that busy. It appeared it had been sitting there for some time waffle was hard. Also wait staff shouldn’t be handling the bread that they serve with their hands. They clear tables and touch dishes customers have eaten off of them grab the focaccia bread with their hands to cut up and serve.

all good. very reasonable quality food. typical poorly trained hostess. arrived early for reservation. plenty of open tables. was told we needed to wait at bar. waited 35mins and none of the open tables when we arrived had been filled up until we sat down. i hate this unskilled approach to hostess game.

Last minute pick after a busy day mid-week. Wife had the pork chop and said it was excellent. I had the Gamberi, and it was tasteless, and for the price, it only had 4 shrimp in with the pasta. Not a future choice of mine. I would have said something but we were tired, and getting late, and we are not ones to send back meals. Service was excellent.
