Mawn is a noodle house with “no rules,” and the first restaurant for Chef Phila Lorn and his wife Rachel, who bring with them close to 20 years of experience in Philly’s restaurant scene. Phila, pronounced “Pee La,” broken English for Philadelphia, is a first-generation Cambodian-American chef. The first in his family to be born here, his parents and siblings came to Philadelphia as refugees in 1985 after surviving the war in Cambodia.

Mawn, which means “chicken” in Khmer, the Cambodian language, represents more than one thing. To Phila, chicken was at every meal growing up, and to his parents, chicken represented peacetime. During the war and genocide of the Cambodian people, there was mostly only what was found in nature to eat, including rice and salt. If there was chicken, it meant no war. At the end of that dark time, recipes were lost, and culture was wiped out, but through survival, a new authenticity was born.

The food here is definitely everything you could imagine it would be! It definitely did not disappoint! The flavor profiles were unique. This was our first time trying Cambodian cuisine, and we loved it. We had the salad which was the chefs mom’s recipe, it was so simple but delicious. We had the fish and steak, the fish was the star of the show. We had some kind of curried noodles with crab! So amazing. To our surprise the dessert was so simple but just as amazing as the other dishes, we had rice pudding and funnel cake. I am not a rice pudding fan but this was different, light fluffy and yummy. The wait staff was also excellent very knowledgeable and made us feel right at home! We can’t wait to return

We did the puck and see, they accommodated our request and the meal was everything we imagined. The service was super genuine and the food matched it. It's a do not skip. Cannot wait to go back!

The most incredible food and service! We have gone many times and had most things on the menu - it’s always so hard to decide. The clams, salads, whole fish, garlicky cabbage, soups. Everything is so flavorful. This is the kind of place where you want to lick the plate. And the funnel cake is the best I’ve ever had anywhere. And to top that off - every single staff member is so nice and welcoming. These are genuine people who want to make your experience great from start to finish. Phila and Rachel + crew are the dream team. Wish we could go multiple times a week, but we know everyone deserves a chance to eat here.

There is a reason it is tough to get a reservation here... everything is amazing, everytime. The food is unique and full of flavor. Favorites include the soft shell shrimp and Koh Soi but the crudo specials are truly on another level. The staff is warm and friendly and genuinely seems happy to be there. Every aspect of the experience is 5 star. Now the only problem is getting another reservation to return...

It was my husbands birthday and they were very accommodating since I Wanted to bring a birthday cake, so I really appreciated that. The food was amazing , fresh and flavorful . Each dish speaks for itself without trying too hard , it’s simple and unpretentious. We had a great time

Worth all the hype! Banh chow salad and khao soi noodles were my favorites, but everything we had was delicious, including finishing the meal with a refreshing iced coffee and flower tea. Service was knowledgeable and really welcoming.

Tasting menu was delicious and provided great value. I’m excited to go back when I can get a table and try a lot of the a la carte options. Service was fantastic as well.
