Maven is an energetic restaurant and bar, located in the heart of the Lower Haight (which we like to think is the best damn neighborhood in all of San Francisco). Featuring delicious cocktails paired with casual and clever food – our mission is simple: serve substantial, creative dishes – and offer them up with well-crafted, smart cocktails that make all the flavors sing together in delightful harmony.
Guests in our vibrant dining room at Maven will find something for everyone.
From our communal tables crafted from fallen red woods, to an upstairs fireside lounge, a chef’s counter with a front row seat to the kitchen, and a lush living wall above the bar.
To maintain our casual yet refined demeanor, we offer the majority of seats to walk-ins, yet do take limited reservations. We are open seven nights a week, and from brunch until dinner on weekends.
Sat, Sun 11:00 am–3:00 pm
Mon, Sun 5:30 pm–10:00 pm
Tue–Sat 5:30 pm–11:30 pm
15-30guests, Food and Beverage Minimums do apply. More information at our website.
We used to come to Maven often, no reservations fantastic food, quiet sweet place...I'm gonna sound like an old person, but it changed a lot! super noisy (can't have a conversation) food was average although drinks were great as usual.
This is def one of those SF restaurants memes are made about. The share plates can be shared if you have a party of 2, portions are really small but there are a variety of sauces!
We had a reservation and were sat right away, although after being sat we waiting another 10-15 minutes before getting water or acknowledged. The food is priced as all other SF restaurants although the brunch was at most mediocre. I got the hash and the potato’s weren’t crispy, there was an odd sauce, everything was the same texture and nothing was winning on the dish. Everyone else felt the same about their dishes. The cocktails are pretty good here, I’d probably only come back for drinks. 2 cocktails and an entree it was about $55 per person. I’d go elsewhere for brunch.
Cozy place with great pairings and artisan cocktails. The price is much better than some surrounding locations with food that is just as amazing. The service was also great.
I had the duck hash which was good. They don’t have many extras (e.g. unless you take your coffee with cream you’re taking it black. They have no soy or almond milk). T
It was my first time at Maven and I really enjoyed my dinner there with a friend. I thought the food was yummy (though not outstanding, perhaps it was my choice - the mushroom bolognese - which was a little uninspiring) and the service very friendly. Enjoyed the cocktails too. I think the atmosphere is what really makes it stand out. I would return for drinks and small plates in future.
The burger and beer happy hour deal is delicious and amazing
Great neighborhood place for a good meal made with very fresh ingredients and craft cocktails with great service
Maven is great for a large group of loud young friends who do not mind sitting at a communal table perched on bar stools (with no backs) for a few hours of very loud conversation. But for anyone wanting to chat during dinner without having to yell to be heard over the strangers sitting on either side of you, beware: even if you specify in your reservation a more intimate counter seat (which includes a slightly more comfortable chair/stool with a back), you may not be seated there. The food is fine -- duck sliders are the big winner; burger is good, but don't be picky about your temp preference; and the grilled cheese is a hit.
Loved it! 10/10 would recommend for a casual weeknight dinner.
Exactly what we wanted, a delicious perfectly cooked burger and tasty muscles. A short but great beer list was a perfect compliment to the meal.
Enjoyed the ambiance as well. Cool space, decor, and living wall.
The Maven's burgher is really good.
Maven is my favorite neighborhood restaurant in the Haight. The Oxford Comma cocktail is the best tequila cocktail I've ever had, and the fish option (which changes seasonally) is always divine. The warm olives and pickles are great to start with. I don't eat red meat, but I'm told the burger is one of the best in town, and that the duck sliders are delicious. Everything is good here.
Wonderful and very accommodating staff. Thank you.
The place to go if you are glutton for audio punishment or can lip read. The noise level was really unbearable.
The mussels in coconut broth were absolutely delicious (we asked for more bread so as to capitalize on last drop of broth), and the french fries that came with the burger first rate. Less first rate was the mayo that accompanied the burger and fries. Rather revolting. The roasted asparagus were swimming in a non-especially memorable butter sauce. The salmon came tepid (we asked for it super rare, and it came super rare, but an more attentive cook can make super rare salmon such that the fish is heated through.
Service was fine. Watching foot traffic on Haight from our perch by a window was nice, but the noise level tainted what would otherwise have been a pleasant even if not spectacular meal in a friendly neighborhood establishment. Never ever again.
Overall the Maven experience was a little underwhelming. The portions at brunch were really small, and not necessarily in the encouraging way of shared/additional plates as all the plates were relatively standard sizing.
The food left us hungry and dissatisfied. The side greens was not very compelling either.
My beans and eggs were overcooked and bland--burned at bottom of skillet.
I can't say I'd feel compelled to come back.
My biggest gripe is the noise and communal tables. I'm not a fan of either. The place is far too small but because of the tall ceiling noise carries like there's no tomorrow. The pub next door was also an extreme nuisance because of its deafening music. The food was actually tasty but I could barely concentrate on it because of the disturbances. I will not return.
Overhyped on OT. Nothing special other than the neighborhood.
The noise level was very high, so high that it was difficult for us to have a comfortable conversation.
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday on a Saturday night and Maven exceeded expectations. I already knew the cocktails were A+ but the dinner was a surprise, really exceptional preparations that were better than either the price point or the ambiance (lively high-end bar) would indicate. We ordered the mussels to share, and she ordered the Roasted Chicken entree while I went with the Short Ribs with English peas, carrots, and foie gras. Both were fantastic and only made us want more, so we had to order the fries (which were also exceptional) as we finished off our drinks. Four drinks + two appetizers and two entrees for about $130, one of the better values we've seen for above average date night restaurants in the Bay Area.
The restaurant is very lively, the drinks are creative and delicious, and the food is good. It does get very noisy.
Good food and the ambience is really nice. I had tried their dinner food another time and liked that as well.
We had a great time at Maven. The service was attentive and relaxed. Food was delicious!
Really delicious food and cocktails. I love the fact that they have a cocktail dinner pairing! It gets a bit loud in there due to the community tables but it won't interrupt your dinner. We sat upstairs and it was perfect for enjoying a date night meal and people watching.
Great service, food, and especially cocktails
We did 3 appetizers and split the burger, great way to get a taste of multiple things, all of which were amazing.
came in @ 5:30 for a reservation of 3 people - was greeted and seated literally RIGHT NEXT TO THE ENTRANCE to a completely empty restaurant.. my gal's and I moved ourselves next to the window away from the door and as our host looked over at us, confused.. came to us seated, already looking down at our menus and said because we were an ODD number of a reservation, the seating was prearranged and they were fully booked with reservations, and managed to work out the seating charts with us being an odd number of 3 in our party. it was sooo bizarre and got up to move back to our seats by the door. As our waitress took our orders, I asked her if they tend to get busy through the weeknights (it was a WEDNESDAY) she said, "no not too bad - we fill up on the weekends" which I could have understood - the entire time there the restaurant was NEVER full. Food was meh - but drinks were actually tasty!
Liked the fries and the aioli that accompanied them.
Maven is one of the best finds in the city. They have a small but wonderful food menu, and their cocktails are out of this world! (I recommend the Corpse Reviver #598). Tanika, the general manager, is wonderful and makes every visit a delight! For a place that is as busy as Maven, it's amazing how fast and friendly the service is!
I didn’t think the food was anything special.
Order the burger, you will not be disappointed.
Came for the restaurant week prix fixe menu and loved it!!! This was a great value with 3 courses + 2 cocktails at $45. The pasta was nothing to write home about but the salad, duck sliders, burger/fries and cocktails were SO GOOD. Definitely coming back :)
They were for accommodating to our birthday party which had some last minute additions. I was so stressed out but Maven fixed everything for me. The hostess was so nice, and used the candles I provided for the birthday girl’s dessert. The cocktails were fantastic, I’ve gotten pretty spoiled lately and am hard to please when it comes to cocktails. The birthday dinner went wonderfully. My only issue is it was really hard to find the waitress again after our main course was served. So the drinks started dwindling, most of us gave up but a few just went ahead and walked over to the bar.
Great food, awesome drinks they are rightly known for, good service ... but really loud. I can't take that noise. Recommended if you don't mind loud. Otherwise for the noise-sensitive like me, go w/ the octogenarians at 5 pm. ;-)
Ask to be seated at the bar facing the beautiful, clean open kitchen. Attention to detail, super fresh food. Lovely handcrafted cocktails. Not a huge brunch menu but it has a good variety of options and sides. Get the potatoes. No, seriously. My go-to is the mixed greens with goat cheese and quinoa, for brunch I get a fried egg on top. So satisfying. Plenty of gluten free options, we've brunched numerous times and as a Celiac I've never gotten sick. Lovely service as well, attentive without being pushy.
BRUNCH > Best cocktail I've ever had.... with Duck Hash and a Duck Egg on top 😍 , husband had the burger, it was all dEElisH !
Great service and absolutely delicious tasting ingredients in the food.
We had a great time. Service was super friendly and kind. Minor order mistakes were caught by the staff who fixed them in real time. Drinks were great. Enjoyed the manhatten-like drink. Fries were excellent as were brussel sprouts. Sat at the counter and watched the chiefs -- they too were friendly and fun. Overall nicely done.
Friendly and attentive staff, delicious cocktails and food.
You MUST have the Brussels sprouts. They seem to be on every other menu everywhere, but this one definitely gets your attention.
The pork belly-duck sliders were delicious as well. Come for the food, and the cocktails! I appreciated the suggested cocktail pairings.
