Maven is an energetic restaurant and bar, located in the heart of the Lower Haight (which we like to think is the best damn neighborhood in all of San Francisco). Featuring delicious cocktails paired with casual and clever food – our mission is simple: serve substantial, creative dishes – and offer them up with well-crafted, smart cocktails that make all the flavors sing together in delightful harmony.
Guests in our vibrant dining room at Maven will find something for everyone.
From our communal tables crafted from fallen red woods, to an upstairs fireside lounge, a chef’s counter with a front row seat to the kitchen, and a lush living wall above the bar.
To maintain our casual yet refined demeanor, we offer the majority of seats to walk-ins, yet do take limited reservations. We are open seven nights a week, and from brunch until dinner on weekends.
Great service. Food was sub-par. All the tables were stools only which was murder on my lower back. I was in intense pain at the end of the meal. Wouldn’t go back.
Staff seem annoyed to be dealing w patrons
Nice interior, helpful servers and bar staff. Good for drinks and to talk with a friend. Probably not the place for food. A burger, maybe. The brunch was so high carb (mostly rice, chips, very little protein) it was unpleasant. None of the carbs are listed on the menu.
The food and the drinks are great. It's a neighbourhood gem!
Reservation request was to be seated at the counter/bar. We did not get this option.
Great service from wait staff, bar and kitchen, and nice ambiance. Food overall was not fabulous, but solidly good. For the price, need to kick it up a notch.
Grilled cheese was good, menu pairing with food items good, service was meh bc I wanted to get table but got placed by kitchen bar area, noise level was high when I was there
Good friendly folks but Food is over hyped and pretty meh. Had to leave half of it behind.
More of a bar with food, than a restaurant. My beet salad was delicious- but I didn't like that it came as a "shareable" salad especially since we were sitting at a narrow counter, and so we didn't bother with the small plates, and my husband and I just ate from the bowl. They did not have iced tea???
Maven’s atmosphere is good late as a cocktail bar but lacks during daylight. Reservations here do not guarantee you a table, instead potentially a bar slot overlooking kitchen where a waitress can barely reach you. The food is ok. Convenient if you’re in the area for a cocktail and fries, not somewhere to go if you’re seeking good food or service.
Salmon was small and I got so little risotto with it. It was great quality just too small portions. There are long tables, so you're sitting with other people. It feels very cramped with no privacy. Waitress asked like 5 times if we were ordering cocktails (sorry, no) and then didn't refill our water. Is that revenge lol? I won't be back.
We had a great time celebrating a friends birthday. Exactly the fun, lively atmosphere we were looking for. Drinks and food were excellent!
They make great cocktails and the service is always good.
Loved the food. A great experience. It is noisy though, but I still give it 5 stars.
Great services and ambiance. Fun place to catch up with friends. It's quiet enough where you can hear each other and not be shouting. They also have a variety of seating options and the staff is always accommodating to what your preference is.
We enjoyed the drinks and food, however the food came before our cocktails and we had to ask for the cocktails. Pretty expensive but good.
Loved it will go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great food and cocktails!
We are repeat customers, we come back because it’s a clean, well-designed room with good service, imaginative cuisine, good wine selection, but the martinis are only half-sized.
Have been wanting to try this place for awhile. I know the owner, from when he was little and have been following his success. It was a great, casual place with good cocktails. Service was great as was the food. Good job, Jay!
It was my second time there and I have no compliants. It was a first outing for my friend who was very impressed and wants to come back. I think we make another trip for early lunch. Looked like a great breakfast/brunch menu.
Cocktails were excellent too by the way
Great service and easy to get to (lower Haight). Our waitress was lovely and the food was fresh and really good. The prices are a bit pricey, but brunch is something that I will pay a bit more for if the service/environment is great (and Maven was).
Maven has never disappointed - great food, fantastic service!
Went for Easter Sunday brunch. Awsome food and friendly staff!!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, yummy food and drinks at a good price.
Great find on Haight ! Very cool cocktail list - interesting and original and super yummy 😋. Good vibe and good food !
Quick service, pretty good food! Got the happy hour burger with free Manhattan, as well as mussles, fries, and the duck/pork sliders. Sliders were by far the best irem
Good food and drink, which was affordable but set in a great venue. Nice high tops, great for group events and date nights! Definitely would recommend, plus plenty of other bars locally for the rollover.
Went with my family and friends and had a very nice time
A fabulous dinner at a reasonable price..
Limited selection of food, my entree was salty and generally underwhelming, overpriced for portion size
Excellent service and god food for brunch. Neighborhood gem.
I've been to Maven several times for dinner and absolutely loved it. I thought since I'd enjoyed my previous experiences I'd try it out for brunch. Wow...it was like a different restaurant. Terrible service. We ordered coffee and not only did it take 10+ minutes to bring it to the table but it was a French Press that the waitress aggressively strained getting solid particles mixed into the coffee. There was also not enough coffee to fill up our cups once (we were a party of 4). We also asked for salt & pepper for the table and it was never brought over. If this wasn't enough the food was subpar. At best. The French toast banana bread? Best part was the whip cream. Breakfast potatoes had a sauce on it that was completely overpowering. Almost inedible. The chilaquiles were the best breakfast dish but weren't anything to write home about. Would have been better with salt.. too bad we didn't have any.
I've had the burger for dinner before and thought I'd try it again -- as one does when they like a dish. Unfortunately I made the wrong choice. The bun tasted grainy, there was so much sauce on it my hands were it was disgusting. I ordered a fried egg on the burger but received a egg was hard and springy...like a tortured and flattened poached egg. Very disappointing and an lackluster way to start a Sunday. Perhaps it's different cooks/staff for brunch vs dinner. I hope so... because if not I'm disappointed to have lost a wonderful dinner venue.
Solid option in the Haight! Great ambiance and a fantastic burger. Nothing super special.
Great food and atmosphere
Food was good! Wish it was better because of high prices but I guess that’s San Francisco. Our waitress was very sweet but still took quite a while getting to us despite the restaurant being empty. Overall a cool looking place, nice brunch.
Love the look and feel of this place. Food is great. Drinks and wine options are, too. Service is friendly and you don’t wait too long for your meal.
Intimate atmosphere with carefully curated menu items. A delicious time!
Went here for SF Restaurant Week. The food was good, the paired cocktails are extremely strong, which is probably a plus if you are a seasoned drinker. We first ordered 3 appetizers, fries (delicious w/yummy olive aioli), pickles (excellent) and cheese platter (great selection of cheeses but a few pieces of bread were stale). Then came the ordering of our main dishes, 2 of us wanted to do the restaurant week promotion, and 1 person wanted to order off the main menu & get a different dessert, she ultimately did not want the paired cocktails. However this was a problem for the waitress, she told us we had to all do the promotion. When we asked why she dryly replied “it’s the rule” and when we inquired further why, she just kept repeating herself and finally said she’d go ask her manager, she came back and again said that’s just the rule. We just accepted it was the “rule” but the crazy part is that my friend intended to order multiple dishes had she got the chance to order what she wanted it would have been more for the restaurant. Moreover, we were allowed to order multiple appetizers without an issue why couldn’t we order a main dish the same way. I find this incredibly ridiculous and the lack of knowledge of “why” this was a rule is unacceptable. So once we agreed we’d all do the promotion we informed her that one person didn’t drink and one had a citrus allergy, we asked if the cocktails could be substituted. Her reaction was as if we had made an insurmountable and unreasonable request. She again had to ask her manager. She eventually brought a nonacholic lemon drink. Nothing special, and it didn’t pair nicely with the food ordered. Because of my citrus allergy she brought me the same paired cocktails with the promotion but without citrus. They were way too strong and undrinkable. I came to Maven last year during restaurant week and the service was excellent and they were very accommodating to my allergy. This time, however, I was quite disappointed by Maven.
