Maven is an energetic restaurant and bar, located in the heart of the Lower Haight (which we like to think is the best damn neighborhood in all of San Francisco). Featuring delicious cocktails paired with casual and clever food – our mission is simple: serve substantial, creative dishes – and offer them up with well-crafted, smart cocktails that make all the flavors sing together in delightful harmony.
Guests in our vibrant dining room at Maven will find something for everyone.
From our communal tables crafted from fallen red woods, to an upstairs fireside lounge, a chef’s counter with a front row seat to the kitchen, and a lush living wall above the bar.
To maintain our casual yet refined demeanor, we offer the majority of seats to walk-ins, yet do take limited reservations. We are open seven nights a week, and from brunch until dinner on weekends.
Solid option in the Haight! Great ambiance and a fantastic burger. Nothing super special.
Great food and atmosphere
Food was good! Wish it was better because of high prices but I guess that’s San Francisco. Our waitress was very sweet but still took quite a while getting to us despite the restaurant being empty. Overall a cool looking place, nice brunch.
Love the look and feel of this place. Food is great. Drinks and wine options are, too. Service is friendly and you don’t wait too long for your meal.
Intimate atmosphere with carefully curated menu items. A delicious time!
Went here for SF Restaurant Week. The food was good, the paired cocktails are extremely strong, which is probably a plus if you are a seasoned drinker. We first ordered 3 appetizers, fries (delicious w/yummy olive aioli), pickles (excellent) and cheese platter (great selection of cheeses but a few pieces of bread were stale). Then came the ordering of our main dishes, 2 of us wanted to do the restaurant week promotion, and 1 person wanted to order off the main menu & get a different dessert, she ultimately did not want the paired cocktails. However this was a problem for the waitress, she told us we had to all do the promotion. When we asked why she dryly replied “it’s the rule” and when we inquired further why, she just kept repeating herself and finally said she’d go ask her manager, she came back and again said that’s just the rule. We just accepted it was the “rule” but the crazy part is that my friend intended to order multiple dishes had she got the chance to order what she wanted it would have been more for the restaurant. Moreover, we were allowed to order multiple appetizers without an issue why couldn’t we order a main dish the same way. I find this incredibly ridiculous and the lack of knowledge of “why” this was a rule is unacceptable. So once we agreed we’d all do the promotion we informed her that one person didn’t drink and one had a citrus allergy, we asked if the cocktails could be substituted. Her reaction was as if we had made an insurmountable and unreasonable request. She again had to ask her manager. She eventually brought a nonacholic lemon drink. Nothing special, and it didn’t pair nicely with the food ordered. Because of my citrus allergy she brought me the same paired cocktails with the promotion but without citrus. They were way too strong and undrinkable. I came to Maven last year during restaurant week and the service was excellent and they were very accommodating to my allergy. This time, however, I was quite disappointed by Maven.
Met here for an important meeting and we were given space away from any guests at the time which was much appreciated. We ordered a variety of appetizers and one entree all the share between two people, one who’s a vegetarian: neither of us was disappointed! I’m coming back for more!!
Had a great time grabbing drinks with a friend. The staff was lovely and personable, thanks for the great recommendations!
Avoid this place for brunch unless shouting and clueless service is your thing. Even getting a cup of coffee took 15 minutes and three requests.
The restaurant was empty but the waitress told us we needed to leave for upcoming reservations. We had a very normal dining time, 12:15-1. We had drinks, tea and lunch. There were no people waiting for a table either.
The restaurant was noisy, did not have round tables so for a Birthday Party we were seated at a long table
with 2 remaining places. We ordered a number of small dishes to share which for the most part were tasty but small in size. My main course of skirt steak with green beans and mash potatoes was a disappointment.
For the price the meat was not tender. I had had the exact same dish the night before at a restaurant in San Carlos. The food was much better at that restaurant. I would say that Maven is a neighbor restaurant for the people living nearby. Parking is impossible too boot! We were 1/2 hour late because we could not park. Not one of the 6 of us would return. The best part of the evening was our Family. The wine we brought was fantastic.
This place does not disappoint. Great atmosphere and service! The food is always delicious, and the cocktails are very thoughtful and creative. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a delightful evening at a classy place.
Burger is one of the best!
It was a good spot for cocktails and appetizers
Small thoughtful menu.
Incredible craft cocktails.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Suggestive and delightful pairings.
Duck mousse liver pate was delicious. The tip was dotted with thinly sliced Fresno chilies and Serrano jalapeños and cilantro. Served with perfectly toasted and thinly sliced baguette.
Chinatown Duck and pork sliders were generous and the flavor combo was awesome!
Paired with the 5 Spot cocktail (rum, ginger, thai Basil, maple syrup, five spice. At least 2!
Super duper delicious evening;)
Really great cocktails and delicious brunch! Everything we had was perfect!
Food is great. Cocktails are exceptional. Service is solid. Only complaint is they always seem to cram you into a big shared table.
I saw that Maven had received high reviews online and admittedly the food was pretty good and the cocktails were great, however, the service was awful. I've never experienced such awful service at a restaurant of this price before. I had made a reservation for 6 and when my guests and I arrived we were seated promptly with no warning of future crowds coming. We ordered several dishes and cocktails and at 8 o'clock our waitress tells us we need to leave due to a large party coming in and she is taking last call for drinks. Our party was still making our way through our several dishes and and planned to order another round of drinks and dessert. We were taken by surprise. Before we could even place a "last call" the waitress hands us the check and basically forces us out the door. Not even offering to take us up on our last round or reseat us at the bar. I was taken aback by how aggressive and pushy the waitstaff were especially as we were given no advance warning of the "time limit" of our seats and that we couldn't order more food and drinks as we had anticipated. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you plan on scarfing down your food and beverages.
When I placed the res on OnTable I chose table seating vs. counter seating, but when I arrived they attempted to seat the two of us at the counter. I reminded them of my original request and after some discussion, they provided us with table seating. Not sure why they ask where you’d like to sit, but don’t recognize that upon arrival?
Otherwise, the service, food and ambiance were all good and it made for a pleasant experience.
Maven is always delicious. I recommend the duck sliders and the goat cheese salad. Definitely worth a
This restaurant receives great reviews and I'm not sure why.
The food was ok - nothing special. Our group ate the butternut squash pasta, the chicken, the burger, and several sides (the pork sliders and pickled veggies. The pasta was heavy on the butter and I dreaded every bite, the chicken was simple, and the burger was just an overpriced burger. Overall, the service was fine and the food plain and overpriced.
Half of our food was good. Drinks were very solid. Might try it for dinner, but it was just okay for brunch.
Excellent service, large communal tables, loud-so hard to carry out a conversation across the table. Excellent food and drinks.
Fantastic cocktails, great ambiance and pretty good food. A pretty standard modern American place but very pleasant for a drink or a meal on a date or with friends. Quite lively, as a lot of people seem to go just for their fantastic cocktails at the bar.
Maven is always a good bet. The folks who work there are friendly, knowledgeable & fun. It IS a neighborhood gem. Very consistent & always fresh.
Great service, delicious mussels, and all of our cocktails were balanced and unique. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Both the bar tender and the manager touched our table during our experience. Can’t wait to come back!
We've loved eating a Maven for years, but were a bit surprised and disappointed with our last visit. The brussel sprouts have a new recipe where they are drenched in vinegar/lemon and not nearly as crispy as they used to be. Bummer.
We watched our drinks sitting on the bar for almost 10 min - random waiters kept picking it up, bringing it to the wrong table, and then back to the bar. Then there was a lengthy debate what the drink was before they eventually brought it over. After all our appetizers had been served :(
My salmon came way undercooked despite asking for it done medium. I then had the pasta, which was okay. I love their cocktails and have enjoyed Maven in the past, so it was disappointed.
Food and wine were delicious. Portions a bit small
Great service. Both dishes were delicious.
Great place with classy decor and nice selection of cocktails. Somewhere that's as enjoyable for a Sunday brunch as it is for date night.
Wednesday. Mussels were to die for. The website had short ribs on menu and we found they are not on the menu.
Great burger! Delicious flavor and done just right! Melts in your mouth!
Barely anyone in there when we sat...took way too long to get served. Food quality didn't match the prices.
We ordered everything to share and every single plate was fantastic. The salmon is one of the best I've had hands down. Highly recommend the broccoloni and the sliders as well.
Great venue, poor service and overall quality.
Our experience was perfect! Our server (Stevie) sp? Was lovely, friendly, funny, knowledgeable and all around great!
That salad with the toasted quinoa is the best salad ever, the Muscles were delicious, good cocktails, great dessert, grilled cheese appetizer was different and delicious. Go there now!
Excellent everything, only the waiter forgot my drink. It was all solved but really unique food and great all around
We used to come to Maven often, no reservations fantastic food, quiet sweet place...I'm gonna sound like an old person, but it changed a lot! super noisy (can't have a conversation) food was average although drinks were great as usual.
This is def one of those SF restaurants memes are made about. The share plates can be shared if you have a party of 2, portions are really small but there are a variety of sauces!
