Matthew’s continues to set the bar for fine dining in Jacksonville. From the minute you enter the level of service, attention to detail and quality is second to none
We frequent Matthew’s. We have yet to be disappointed. We had the pasta and the lamb both we terrific. The service was excellent.
New Years celebration!!
Matthews is always amazing! My favorite restaurant in Jacksonville.
Everything was great, except headlights shinning in through the windows into my face.
Never a bad meal at Matthew’s. They exceed expectations every time.
Ryan and the other waitstaff were so helpful and amazing. Food and drinks were brilliant.
It was an uncharacteristically off night for Matthews, perhaps owed to Christmas Eve in the time of COVID.
We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation time and waited about 10 minutes for our table to be ready. Some confusion among the wait staff led to a long 15 minutes without attention after being seated, but once we alerted our hostess that we'd not seen our waiter, the situation was quickly rectified, our waiter appeared and service for the remainder of the evening was excellent. Appetizers were delicious, as was the wine by the glass (first a red to accompany my tartare and then a waiter-recommended Sancerre with my Black Cod). Entrees were prepared and plated beautifully, and my Black Cod was especially delicious. My wife's ribeye was perfectly cooked, though the cut was not especially good with more inedible fat and gristle than I'd expect in a restaurant-served steak. The soufflé' dessert was light and sweet; a fine finish to a hearty Christmas Eve meal.
All in all a solid though not extraordinary effort. In the future I would request an inside table rather than any against the front window as the cushions in the bench seats against the window are tired and one sinks too low for a comfortable dining position.
Wait staff is friendly, enthusiastic and—aside from the hiccup at the beginning—attentive without being intrusive.
There was no valet so it was self park, but there were plenty of street parking spaces without meters available. Lack of a valet could have been due to the night (Christmas Eve) or COVID, or both.
We will certainly visit Matthews again after COVID is behind us and we can more fully enjoy a fine dining experience. Matthews remains a great choice for a special occasion. The dining room is not loud so is well-suited to an intimate meal and good conversation.
Wonderful meal exceptional service. The team members went above and beyond this xmas eve. My husband & I experienced a hard time getting transportation back to our hotel, David who worked there was kind enough to take us back in his personal vehicle. Cannot be more thankful on this cold rainy Christmas Eve. 😊
Dinner meals for the three of us was exceptionally prepared and served.
I must say my wife and I was disappointed for the first time dinning at Matthew’s . Also this was the first time booking our wedding Anniversary on Opentable and the occasion setting was not to the level I have come to expect. Very mediocrely presented for my 31st anniversary.
Wow really let down.
Matthews is a restaurant Made for any special occasion to impress. It is truly high class dining with marvelous service. Our food and wine was absolutely delicious. The waiter was so knowledgeable about each item that I almost wanted to ask him about everything on the menu. My family ended up just getting a first course and an entrée, but next time we are doing the six course meal selected by the chef. Everything was made to appeal to each of the senses and every bite was followed by a “mmmmm”. I highly recommend the chocolate flourless tort, it tastes like heaven. On Mondays they have half off some select wines And the restaurant wasn’t too crowded. It truly was a magical evening that was made special by the staff and chefs.
Truly a wonderful evening.
Amazing from the very start. Service was phenomenal. Drinks, appetizers were delicious. Entrees were even better. Dessert was incredible. I’d highly recommend and can’t wait to go again.
I've never been super impressed with Matthew's menu, we actually had a very negative experience last year but all things aside - you go to Matthew's for the service, which is phenomenal and absolutely top of the line.
The food is good, but I would group it under "standard upscale American fare", and leave the rest for your interpretation.
Matthews delivers on capturing the perfect dining experience. I highly recommend making any night a very special night by dining there.
Meal was absolutely amazing and the service was great!
Amazing service and delicious meal
Excellent food and service. Did the Chef's adventure menu paired with wine and it was worth every penny.
Everyone on the staff was wonderful. Members of our party were running late for a surprise greeting/entrance. The hostess quickly adjusted, coordinating for us to sit in an area of the bar where the birthday girl couldn’t see who was entering the building. Once the late guests arrived, we were seated and treated to 5 star service by the waitress and many other restaurant staff. The guests were from Texas, Georgia & Mississippi, and raved about the ambiance, food and service. The entire team made a special night even more special.
Outstanding service. Great food. Thank you very much.
Eve and the whole staff always take such great care of us. Food is absolute best fine dining in Jacksonville.
Always the best food and the service team is hands down first class from the bar to the dessert!
Nice staff, nice food, nice atmosphere. Would definitely go again
13th Wedding Anniversary, we had a great time. I would definitely recommend for any/all occasions. 10 out of 10
Excellent experience exactly what you would expect based on this restaurant’s reputation
An exceptional restaurant providing a personal interest with the dining guest. The dining area and the lounge where pleasing to the eye and designed giving a pleasant atmosphere. The food preparation was superb for us to enjoy an evening dining. Overall an enjoyable evening at Mathews.
Amazing. Had the chief’s menu with wine. Every course was just great. It’s a bit pricy but worth it.
Service was exemplary, from curbside to table side. Food was good, but not great - when having a chef tasting menu, one expects at least 1 course to be truly outstanding or inventive, but this didn’t occur. There was not a bad course per se, but several so-so courses & only 1 or 2 very good creations. I will go back to try the entree experience, primarily because of the outstanding service & nice atmosphere.
Our servers, Ryan and Sam were outstanding.
Very professional and attentive. They made my wife’s birthday wonderful.
The food, service, and ambience were fabulous. The menu offers elevated selections, but there was no pretentiousness at all.
Never disappoints. Our favorite restaurant in Jax. Food and service always consistent.
The multi-course chef's meal was wonderful, and the service was even better! Great restaurant for a special birthday dinner for my wife.
We chose Matthews as our date night and it was an excellent choice. From the ambience to the service it was amazing. I definitely recommend this restaurant
John Middleton was an amazing server and made our birthday dinner that much more special. The food was fantastic but the service was incredible. We will be back!
The Adventure Tasting menu was fantastic, the service excellent as usual, a perfect wedding anniversary celebration.
A truly delightful evening! We sat at the bar and enjoyed Happy Hour as well as the dining room menu. The French fries are the perfect thing to nibble with drinks and the cheesecake was divine!
My wife and I look for a good tasting menu anytime we travel, but have never been able to find a good one in Jacksonville (where we live). We heard about Matthew's, and gave it a try. I only have one complaint - I'm not a big seafood eater, and usually @ Tasting Menus I always am asked if I have dislikes. I make sure to always mention I'm not really interested and seafood, and chef's always tend to accommodate. Unfortunately @ Matthew's, I was never asked and 3 out of the 4 (non dessert) courses were seafood. That was a little frustrating. I'm not sure if they are willing to accommodate, but you should definitely be aware they will not ask. Other than that, everything was great. I would probably go back, if there was some assurance that likes/dislikes could be accommodated.
We had the chefs tasting 6 course meal paired with wines. Wasn’t a fan of the first two courses of oysters and scallops. Pasta dish was nice, and the duck was decent. Dessert was not good at all.
Wines did pair well with each course but still overall was very underwhelmed.
The meal was perfect from drinks to dessert. We started out in the bar. Watching the mixologist is very entertaining. When we moved to the dining room, we were greeted immediately. We selected the Red Snapper and Ribeye with two sides. The Ribeye was undercooked to our liking but was taken care of right away. We ended our meal with the melt in your mouth soufflé.
