We had a wonderful dinner at Matthew's as we have had in the past. Our waiter, Ryan, was great and the manager and staff were very helpful when we had a small issue with a gift card. The food was delicious and the pace was relaxed. Overall, it was a perfect evening. We'll definitely be back again.
Deliciously flavored Tuna tartare
Sea Bass prepared to perfection
Incredible selection of 1/2 price wines on Monday
This was an amazing meal from all points! A true 5 star restaurant and I’ll look forward to coming again
Expensive but worth it. The service is superb. The food is wonderful.
Classy place, with great service and food. This is what fine dining is all about in Jax
I took my girlfriend's family there for their first time . It was her oldest daughter's birthday. Whole meal was wonderful and Jeff our waiter was fantastic.
Food was really not even mediocre at best. A medium-rare steak (asked to be on the rare side), came in as pretty much -well done. The soufflé was abominable and inedible. The service is way over the top. Unpleasant exaggeration I would call it. Makes one feel uncomfortable.
It is not even close to what it was before COVID-19. Ownership better get its act back together to avoid losing a lot of clientele.
We will not go back for the foreseeable future. There are many better options out there.
I so appreciate that I can always count on Matthews to provide excellent food and service. My 7-course dinner was everything and more!
Wonderful anniversary dinner
Had Foie Gras and Escargots for starters. Foie Gras was done to perfection with a little sweetness in the currant topping to blend wonderfully with the rich creaminess of the foie gras itself. The escargots were perfect. The light cream sauce with just the right whisper of garlic and fine strips of spinach richly supported the tender escargots.
My entree was the bone -in pork chop. It was superbly prepared, a nice light crispness on the outside and to-die-for lush, tender, juicy meat on the inside. The apple compote accompaniment added a perfect sweet foil to the meaty toast of the chop.Perfectly done.
Other entrees at the table included braised ox tail and the scallops. Both were expertly prepared. The ox tail was rich with a wonderful sauce that brought out the best of both meat and bone marrow, very satisfying. The white acre peas and fried shishito peppers that rounded out the dish were the right balance to the richness of the ox tail and were cooked to perfection. The scallops served atop creamed corn and english peas were also a delight. The scallops were good size, but extremely delicate and tender and the accompanying corn and peas outstanding. the pickled shallots were a real surprise -- adding a very inspired and charming savory element to the dish. Outstanding all around!
While one might think it couldn't get better than this-- it did. Our service was provided by Beau, (maybe BOW for his Bowtie)who was both our waiter and the sommelier for Matthews. His professional attentiveness and conversation was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the table. Bravo Beau!!
Went to Matthew's to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We were not disappointed. We did not anticipate going with the chef's tasting menu, but decided to at the last minute and were very happy with our decision. Our waiter John "Bow" was entertaining and full of information - we loved having him. Great experience!
Had a great experience and can’t wait to try it again
Everything was outstanding
Wonderful meal and service
Always excellent food and service. My very favorite place to eat.
We went for our 3-year wedding anniversary, and I can’t believe we haven’t been here before tonight. We tried the chefs tasting menu and it was absolutely AMAZING! Ryan was our server and he was equally amazing. We will 100% be back soon.
While expensive, the Matthew's experience is worth every penny. We do the tasting menu each time and it changes enough to stay fresh and keep us returning. The wine pairings are always on point too. If you like fine dining, Matthew's is the spot in Jacksonville.
Very friendly, pleasant and helpful staff.
Excellent bar inventory
First class fine dining food, well prepared and presented
We look for unique restaurants with special food offerings and great service. Very welcoming staff front of house and exceptional service in the lounge while we waited for our table (we were very early). Once seated we were presented with bread service featuring an amazing pat of butter, dressed in olive oil with a sprinkle of Pink Himalayan Salt. Our server, Bo, greeted us with enthusiasm and personality. After we perused the menu we both decided to order different items for the 3 course menu. Since we both ordered very different selections we asked Bo to make recommendations for a glass of wine to pair with each course. Returning to the table Bo informed one of us that he had a suggestion that would serve as a bridge between the first and second course. His reasoning was that it would be too easy to over-indulge by consuming 3 glasses of wine. In the lounge one of us had a glass of wine and the other a cocktail. We were not in any way form or fashion drunk unlike many of the other diners who consumed multiple cocktails, multiple bottles of wine and other alcoholic beverages. One of us had amazing food - Bone Marrow with Beef Tartare, Wagyu beef prepared over hot stone with accompaniments and Maine Diver Scallops. The other had a pretty good Heirloom Tomato salad. That is where the good food ended for that diner. 2nd course escargot came with a few rubbery snails in a bland cream sauce, not in little shells. 3rd course of beef tenderloin with savory bread pudding was another disappointment. Bread pudding stone cold, steak was stringy and tough in spite of being perfect temperature. Sent the plate back and was presented with an amuse bouche to fill the gap since the other diner had finished. Before the amuse could be eaten, the new tenderloin was presented, the amuse was taken away and given to the other diner. 2nd tenderloin was no better than the first, in spite of reassurances it was clear that the bread pudding had been microwaved.
Really good food. Glad we did the tasting menu. They accommodated our pescatarian diet.
Everything from the greeting through to the food and service was great
One of our favorite restaurants to celebrate at. We always get the tasting menu. The wine pairing is done by the wait staff.
Matthew’s is a Jacksonville staple. The service is always excellent and the food is consistently delicious.
The restaurant was crowded and the food and the service was not in line with the standards Matthews has provided in the past
We always have a great experience at Matthew’s. This time we branched out and did their tasting menu with the wine pairing, it was amazing! We had not done the tasting and wine pairing before but it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it. I could not determine my favorite dish but the muscles with the chorizo was delicious and then I would say right behind that the beef tartar. They paired the beef tartar with a Chardonnay abs while we were skeptical at first it turned out to be amazing.
Always Special. Order the A5 Wagyu app to start. Every entree is fantastic. Best restaurant in Jax.
Matthews offered some of the finest dining I think I've ever had. Our waiter was absolutely spectacular, knew the menu inside and out and was able to present each dish with enthusiasm and professionalism. Made our 25th anniversary an incredible experience. Will be back, and will refer her all of our friends. Thank you for such an amazing evening and thanks to our server "Beau"
Matthews restaurant was extravagant. Our waiter named Ryan was informative and served us well.
There were four of us celebrating my birthday. We had so much fun and the food was incredible.
great food great service free valet try the Chef adventures menue.
Excellent food. Excellent chef. Excellent service.
Food was top notch. From first course to dessert. Highly recommend.
Had an amazing experience through the Chef’s six course adventure. Wonderful service! Had the best birthday dinner there!
We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with dinner at Matthew's. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chef's Adventure Tasting Menu. Everything was excellent.
The tasting menu “chef’s experience” was one of the best tasting menus I have ever had and how lucky am I that it was on my birthday! Every course was exquisite. We also added the Waygu A5 appetizer course which you sear on a hot stone and it is phenomenal!!! We will be going back for many years to come and we will share our amazing experience with everyone!
We had a great time. Our server John was awesome and made the whole night.
My friend and I made reservations for the tasting menu. When I called to make the reservation the woman who answered the phone told me that her supervisor had her reservation pad and that I could make the reservation online. I told her we wanted to book the tasting menu and that my friend is a vegetarian. She told me to put that information in the comments section of the reservation. I did this.
The evening of our reservation I received a confirmation call from the restaurant. I told the woman who called that we were excited to be doing the tasting menu and that my friend is a vegetarian. She thanked me for that information and stated she would share that with the kitchen.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly. It was only 5p so not many diners were in the restaurant. We were seated in a comfortable booth.
Ryan, our server, greeted us. We let him know we were there for the tasting menu with the wine selection. We let him know that my friend is a vegetarian. He stated he would talk to the chef. Ryan came back and informed us that the chef had no plans for a vegetarian tasting menu that evening. He stated that when we made the reservation we should have shared that information. I told him of my calls as I wrote above. I asked him to talk again with the chef. That I had done what was instructed of me by the restaurant staff. He left to talk to the chef. When he returned we were informed that the chef would only do a vegetarian tasting menu if it was for both of us. This is the first time we were told that was necessary. Don't diners select what they want independent of what the other diners at their table are ordering?
I told Ryan that we would figure it out ourselves. We ended up ordering 3 courses and 2 glasses of wine each. She selected vegetarian choices and I selected what I wanted.
At no point did Ryan try to improve our expereince. The attitude of both Ryan and the chef is appalling for this level of restaurant.
Wonderful experience as always. We ordered the 6 course tasting menu tonight and was not disappointed. Ryan was our server and he was wonderfully friendly and attentive. Perfect evening.
Happy, bar was a little slow with service to dining area
It was my birthday . The setting was beautiful. It was a relax comfortable and the food was amazing . I would recommend to everyone.
