    What a fabulous experience!! Josh, Philip, and Lane gave the best service. But the food was better than anywhere we’ve been in and out of town! The Japanese Wagyu appetizer is such a cool experience-unlike anything I’ve experienced before. A definite MUST try!!! Personal touches for our anniversary made the night even more special!!

    Matthew’s a really good restaurant but by no means a perfect one. While the food was fantastic, it was a little bit conventional and safe. The service, while professional, was a touch impersonal. However it was still a great experience.

    We had bar cocktails 1st--15+ min to be asked for drink order--they need more bar staff. We did Chefs adventure tasting--very good food and nice wines, and wonderful service. Wine stems however were not appropriate for the varietal served--and poor quality for the price point of the meal. I finally requested proper stemware for the meat course, and the rest of the stems were appropriate

    Adventure tasting menu was awesome. Had it with a party of three. Everything was prepared well and ingredients were high quality and well flavored. We all ranked the dishes differently which was an interesting discussion. I also enjoyed the anticipation element in not knowing what was coming next until it arrived. Service was attentive and top notch. A bit of a splurge at $95 plus drinks but I’ll do it again next time I’m in Jax. Only potential negative effect was that the dessert didn’t exactly wow me at the end, but after some of the richer dishes earlier a light course was probably the right call. Was a little wary about going into a six course meal with my party but the portions were spot-on to leave you satisfied without needing to eat later or feeling stuffed after.

    My Wednesday dinner at Matthew’s Restaurant in Jacksonville, FL, was a change-up from recent “Chef’s Menu” dinners there. That is, instead of savoring Chef Justin’s wonderful tasting menus, I opt’d — after a cold, refreshing cocktail — for a First Course of Tuna Tartare . . . small, diced cubes of deliciously fresh, dark red tuna, lightly glazed in a slightly sweet teriyaki dressing with Furikake (a nutty-flavored condiment). A meaty taste sensation that followed & complimented my vodka gimlet cocktail. For an entree, I struggled between the Fish of the Evening, which was halibut & sounded exquisite, and Lamb Loin. After delightfully engaging with my server, Preston (who had not previously been a waiter to me), in a conversation about the merits of each, I chose to move away from fish & ordered the lamb — medium-rare. In tenderness & superb flavor, it matched a filet mignon course that I recently relished in a “Chef’s Adventure Tasting Menu.” Accompanying the beautiful, velvety lamb medallions were petite English peas and white asparagus spears resting on a flavorful, truffle-infused sauce of lamb cooking juices. My wine choice was a mildly-hearty French Burgundy. In finishing another gastronomique Matthew’s Restaurant evening, I surrendered to the decadent pleasure of a never-before-enjoyed Cherry-Vanilla soufflé with a White Chocolate Anglaise. I’ll look forward to seeing it on the menu another time! As always, everyone working in the Restaurant sets & maintains a flawless standard of welcome & service. The pleasure of being in, & enjoying dining at, Matthew’s is rare.

    Well prepared food and service was great. Not crazy with my seat in a corner but gave me a view of the kitchen at work. At times was noisy when waiter at next table was giving a very loud presentation of food he was serving at the next table. I had a wonderful French white wine that I had never had that was memorable. We will definitely be back again to try other food choices!

    Phenomenal experience, my only regret is that we live so far away. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to go again. Our server Jess was wonderful, everyone on the staff that we interacted with was really great, super friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding, absolutely delicious.     Did tasting menu with wine pairing. Service and food were good with the exception of pasta and wagu that were both over salted. A bit overpriced for a meal that was descent, but nothing spectacular.

    I’m writing with respect to dinner on Saturday, April 20. I returned to Matthew’s Restaurant in order, once again, to savor the Chef’s six course “Adventure Menu,” with wine pairings. As with prior times enjoying this uncommon & exceptional offering, it was an evening of exquisite dining. Among the courses (Blue lump crab salad, Sweet saltwater prawn in saffron risotto, Waygu tortellini, a perfectly rare Petite beef filet, Everton Reserve cheddar with bacon jam & crostini, & “Banoffee”), each was staggeringly delicious . . . with the lump crab salad & the Waygu tortellini being exquisitely memorable. As if not enough indulgence, I finished the evening with an individually-sized Grand Mariner soufflé . . . a specialty of Chef Justin Rohloff. Wines in the evening were appropriately paired with each course . . . particularly delicious among them being the “Ben Marco” Malbec (with the Cheddar) & a glass of “Dow’s Fine White Port” (with the Banoffee). I’ll add, finally, that the ambiance of Matthew’s is serenely refined . . . from the environ of its attractive, lively bar (under the talented ministration of mixologist Joshua), to the soothing decor & quiet, subtle dining room service. In the latter, a “shout out” is owed to the lovely & gracious server, Jessica (totally knowledgeable of the menu & wines), and to General Manager, Robert. . . . an elegant, unforgettable culinary experience.

    We had a 8pm reservation and were finally seated at 8.50pm because the previous guests were ‘taking their time’. This is not a guest problem.. this is a front office management issue. They were happy to use the explanation that the guests are lingering instead of taking ownership and making something work.We should have left but we had our of town guests and didn’t want to make them uncomfortable.

    The chef’s adventure menu was outstanding. We ate foods we’ve never tried before and absolutely loved. Our waiter was wonderful. He knew exactly which wine to pair with each dish, keeping in mind our love for cab. This was our second time at the restaurant and we will be back again!     We found an amazing place to eat in Jacksonville. The staff was wonderful from the moment we walk through the door. It was our anniversary and we were looking for a 5 star dinner with a 5 star experience. Wow we found it. The food was absolutely delicious at every course. We started with the Hawaiian Tuna. It melted in our mouths as we slid into the Escargot and mushrooms, so smooth tender. Our main course came and the presentation was breathtaking. I got to enjoy the Maine Diver Scallops. You have to understand the layers of flavor, that are out of this world, even before you got taste the silky tender scallops. WOW! This establishment gets 10 Stars. We will definitely be back.

    Great night. Service was just right…not intrusive and the dinner well paced despite not having to order appetizers and entrees separately to avoid everything arriving at the same time. We had tuna app and cauliflower soup. Our friends had the escargot which they said was some of the best. Entrees were fish of the day (halibut), the house special Bolognese, scallops, and the tenderloin. All in all a great evening.

    We had the Chefs Easter Tasting Menu and it was fantastic. Service is always above and beyond.

    Short story is last time we visited Matthew’s was almost 20 years ago. No reason other than busy life and we live at beach. Closer to Medure’s. That said, we declared after last night’s experience, it will be our anniversary place for life. We had a fabulous 37th anniversary dinner with the style and service of the best restaurants around the world. Thanks to the entire staff for making it so special!

    Just a great experience from start to finish. Greeted warmly, seated immediately. Our server Jen was incredibly knowledgeable and offered great suggestions as I have food allergies so I'm not the easiest. The chef's mushroom au poivre was truly magnificent. There were 5 of us dining and every one of us were raving by the end of the meal. Cannot wait to go beck.

    I went to Matthew’s to celebrate my birthday with my parents, and it was an amazing experience. Our waitress, Jennifer, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. The entire staff signed a menu for me as a birthday gift, and it made me feel so special. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. The entire evening at Matthew’s was incredible.
