Great food. Superb service. Inexpensive but classy
chose prix fixe tonight was a special experience- reminded us of the wonderful Michelin 2 and 3 star restaurants we visited through the years. The fabulous exec chef and owner really comes to the front here with the inventive courses -all superb-due to the decades of experience at the five star hotels in the US and around the world. Special call out to Beaux who told us the history of the restaurant and owner causing us to take the prix fixe. Great story and fabulous cuisine
Overbearing service, high prices, the sr rt took great pains to describe ever ingredient, overbearingly so. My steak was inedible at $55 for entree only. Cheese tray had a yellow Brie which was more like a yellow brick. Wife had a Chilean sea bass which she enjoyed. $25 for an inadequate pour of wine?? All in at $325, you can do better
My favorite place in Jacksonville
Such a wonderful experience with my husband. The food was absolutely amazing but also the service was superb.
Very tasty dishes! I would recommend it to anyone. Ask for a table, the booths are not comfortable as the tables are too high for short people like me.
One of our favorite gems In the neighborhood. We have lived in San Marco and 30 years and Mathews has been consistent since they opened. If you haven’t dined with Mathews what are you waiting for? The chefs adventure menu is fabulous give it a go. Cheers

The service and food were delicious. We always enjoy our meal and the server recommended a fantastic French Pinot that was perfect with our meal.
Nice! Excellent services
Excellent on every level. Yes, it’s expensive, but we knew that before we booked. It was definitely worth it!
I've been to Matthew's three times and not one item on the menu has been less than stellar. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and committed. Highly recommended for date nights, occasions, or really any night you want that special experience.
Beau, was our waiter and the best ever! Our food was amazing too! Overall we were treated like a King and a Queen it was the best! Beau hands down the knows the menu inside and out; he is really the best waiter ever!
We enjoyed the 6 course prix fixe menu, especially the first salmon dish. Our experience was unfortunate because of the lack of social distancing of the tables due to Covid.
It was a real shame!!!!
John, the sommelier with the bow tie, transformed our dinner into an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives. His descriptions of the wine and dishes were like he was telling us a story. If there is a 6 course pairing menu in the middle of July, my husband and myself will be back for our joint bday party. 10/10. Highly recommend.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We had the chef’s tasting course with supplements and wine pairing.
The service is professional and friendly and the food first rate. Mathew’s has evolved into a top restaurant, not only in Jacksonville but in the state of Florida!
Matthew’s is always excellent! Last night we had the chef’s tasting menu - definitely a must.
Foie gras, bone marrow with steak tartare, and the escargot were absolutely delicious. Bottle of pinot noir was excellent. Sea bass and wagyu beef were below average especially for Matthews.
We went to Matthews to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We did the 6 course Chefs Adventure and it was worth every penny. We added the wine pairing and wagyu beef option. It was an experience we will remember for a lifetime. Everything was impeccable - the food (omg the food!), the service, the wine, the cocktails, the knowledge of our server, the valet, it was all perfect. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a special experience to celebrate something really special.
We had a wonderful dinner at Matthew's as we have had in the past. Our waiter, Ryan, was great and the manager and staff were very helpful when we had a small issue with a gift card. The food was delicious and the pace was relaxed. Overall, it was a perfect evening. We'll definitely be back again.
Deliciously flavored Tuna tartare
Sea Bass prepared to perfection
Incredible selection of 1/2 price wines on Monday
This was an amazing meal from all points! A true 5 star restaurant and I’ll look forward to coming again
Expensive but worth it. The service is superb. The food is wonderful.
Classy place, with great service and food. This is what fine dining is all about in Jax
I took my girlfriend's family there for their first time . It was her oldest daughter's birthday. Whole meal was wonderful and Jeff our waiter was fantastic.
Food was really not even mediocre at best. A medium-rare steak (asked to be on the rare side), came in as pretty much -well done. The soufflé was abominable and inedible. The service is way over the top. Unpleasant exaggeration I would call it. Makes one feel uncomfortable.
It is not even close to what it was before COVID-19. Ownership better get its act back together to avoid losing a lot of clientele.
We will not go back for the foreseeable future. There are many better options out there.
I so appreciate that I can always count on Matthews to provide excellent food and service. My 7-course dinner was everything and more!
Wonderful anniversary dinner
Had Foie Gras and Escargots for starters. Foie Gras was done to perfection with a little sweetness in the currant topping to blend wonderfully with the rich creaminess of the foie gras itself. The escargots were perfect. The light cream sauce with just the right whisper of garlic and fine strips of spinach richly supported the tender escargots.
My entree was the bone -in pork chop. It was superbly prepared, a nice light crispness on the outside and to-die-for lush, tender, juicy meat on the inside. The apple compote accompaniment added a perfect sweet foil to the meaty toast of the chop.Perfectly done.
Other entrees at the table included braised ox tail and the scallops. Both were expertly prepared. The ox tail was rich with a wonderful sauce that brought out the best of both meat and bone marrow, very satisfying. The white acre peas and fried shishito peppers that rounded out the dish were the right balance to the richness of the ox tail and were cooked to perfection. The scallops served atop creamed corn and english peas were also a delight. The scallops were good size, but extremely delicate and tender and the accompanying corn and peas outstanding. the pickled shallots were a real surprise -- adding a very inspired and charming savory element to the dish. Outstanding all around!
While one might think it couldn't get better than this-- it did. Our service was provided by Beau, (maybe BOW for his Bowtie)who was both our waiter and the sommelier for Matthews. His professional attentiveness and conversation was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the table. Bravo Beau!!
Went to Matthew's to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We were not disappointed. We did not anticipate going with the chef's tasting menu, but decided to at the last minute and were very happy with our decision. Our waiter John "Bow" was entertaining and full of information - we loved having him. Great experience!
Had a great experience and can’t wait to try it again
Everything was outstanding
Wonderful meal and service
Always excellent food and service. My very favorite place to eat.
We went for our 3-year wedding anniversary, and I can’t believe we haven’t been here before tonight. We tried the chefs tasting menu and it was absolutely AMAZING! Ryan was our server and he was equally amazing. We will 100% be back soon.
While expensive, the Matthew's experience is worth every penny. We do the tasting menu each time and it changes enough to stay fresh and keep us returning. The wine pairings are always on point too. If you like fine dining, Matthew's is the spot in Jacksonville.
Very friendly, pleasant and helpful staff.
Excellent bar inventory
First class fine dining food, well prepared and presented
We look for unique restaurants with special food offerings and great service. Very welcoming staff front of house and exceptional service in the lounge while we waited for our table (we were very early). Once seated we were presented with bread service featuring an amazing pat of butter, dressed in olive oil with a sprinkle of Pink Himalayan Salt. Our server, Bo, greeted us with enthusiasm and personality. After we perused the menu we both decided to order different items for the 3 course menu. Since we both ordered very different selections we asked Bo to make recommendations for a glass of wine to pair with each course. Returning to the table Bo informed one of us that he had a suggestion that would serve as a bridge between the first and second course. His reasoning was that it would be too easy to over-indulge by consuming 3 glasses of wine. In the lounge one of us had a glass of wine and the other a cocktail. We were not in any way form or fashion drunk unlike many of the other diners who consumed multiple cocktails, multiple bottles of wine and other alcoholic beverages. One of us had amazing food - Bone Marrow with Beef Tartare, Wagyu beef prepared over hot stone with accompaniments and Maine Diver Scallops. The other had a pretty good Heirloom Tomato salad. That is where the good food ended for that diner. 2nd course escargot came with a few rubbery snails in a bland cream sauce, not in little shells. 3rd course of beef tenderloin with savory bread pudding was another disappointment. Bread pudding stone cold, steak was stringy and tough in spite of being perfect temperature. Sent the plate back and was presented with an amuse bouche to fill the gap since the other diner had finished. Before the amuse could be eaten, the new tenderloin was presented, the amuse was taken away and given to the other diner. 2nd tenderloin was no better than the first, in spite of reassurances it was clear that the bread pudding had been microwaved.
Really good food. Glad we did the tasting menu. They accommodated our pescatarian diet.
Everything from the greeting through to the food and service was great
One of our favorite restaurants to celebrate at. We always get the tasting menu. The wine pairing is done by the wait staff.
