    Food and service was very good. The valet guys were the heroes of the night! When we arrived it was storming. They sacrificed their umbrellas so we wouldn’t get wet and did it again after dinner. Truly exceptional service by them!!!

    What an amazing experience! The service was out of this world, the food was delicious, and the entire staff contributed to making my wife's birthday dinner incredible. Ryan was our server and was better than we could've ever expected. 100000/10 recommend!

    The staff attending to us couldn’t have been any more pleasant or courteous. Everyone made sure we were having the best experience possible. We felt truly taken care of in the genuine way possible. Jess was our waitress, and I almost feel like that isn’t even the right word to describe her. She didn’t just “wait” on us, but guided a through the whole dinner. It was more of an experience than a meal, and she was our gustatory shaman, leading us through flavors and concepts of each dish and wine-pairing. We made sure to tell her in person, as well as everyone we encountered how wonderful they were. When we come back, we hope Jess can take care of us, because we truly felt taken care of. The chef’s creations, and the execution by the kitchen staff was flawless. The way all the flavors worked together and played off each other, along with the presentation, truly created a mind and palate blowing experience. Worth every penny, with out question. Please share this review with the staff. Their hardwork and our appreciation for it should not go unnoticed.

    I really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Mathews Restaurant! We had the Chefs tasting menu and it was incredible. The service was top notch and our server Will was knowledgeable and amazing!     Matthew’s is a sister restaurant to Rue Saint-Marc in Jacksonville, and honestly, I prefer Rue Saint-Marc. The flavors there are stronger, bolder, and more delicious, while the flavors at Matthew’s are more subtle. There is no denying the skill of the chef and the cooks at Matthew’s, but still, if you only have time for one, Rue Saint-Marc is better. That said, the sea bass course at Matthew’s was delicious, and the escargot course, even better. Matthew’s also has an impressive cocktail program, so be sure to stay for an after dinner drink (or two, or three).

    Chris, our server was absolutely amazing. Never had someone so accommodating and friendly, explained everything in detail. We came to celebrate our two best friends getting married and we all had a spectacular time. Food was exceptional and won’t be forgotten, but the service was even better.

    Our party did the tasting menu. The dishes were unique and superb. The only course we didn’t care for was the cheese course. The cheese was too strong for our taste. I would definitely pick the tasting menu again because five out of the six courses were unbelievably delicious!

    Absolutely amazing dining experience. We did the 8 course dinner with wine service at the chefs table. So much fun watching and interacting with the kitchen staff. All the courses were served with a description of the ingredients and how they were prepared. We had Preston taking care of us and the wine selections with each course and he was spot on every time. The escargot course was one of the better things I have ever eaten. So earthy and savory. The atmosphere is very nice, the entire staff was super friendly and helpful. Even the valet service was great. Definitely recommend this if you want a spectacular overall dining experience. We did one of these in New York at a Michelin starred restaurant and this experience at Matthews was every bit as memorable.

    We had a fantastic dinner with great friends. David, our server, was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. We couldn't have had a better experience. Book your table for Halloween evening next year, the restaurant was not full and was very quiet so we need to get more people in there that night!

    When you pay this kind of money for a single meal, you expect more than decent service. Calling the service at this restaurant decent would be a disservice to the word.

    My wife and I had a wonderful time last night for my pre-birthday dinner. We sat at the Chef’s table and the food was fantastic! Every dish was on point in flavor. Favorites were the scallop dish, the squid ink pasta, and the Australian Wagyu. Our only request would be slightly warmer temps on the cooked dishes, but overall it was a wonderful evening. Cricket at the front of the house and Robert managing the restaurant are always present and personable, and Philip our server was outstanding. What a treat to have this restaurant locally to enjoy celebrations as well as for just a nice evening dining out.

    Wow! Our first time at Matthew's Restaurant in San Marco and it was SO delicious and amazing in every way. Impeccable service, ultra-delicious food, and nice atmosphere. We will be back! :)

    I understand and have respect for the long standing tradition that is a part of Mathews history for Jacksonville residents. Our server was kind, and provided us his best, and that too is noted and appreciated. But at the end of the experience, it feels exactly like many of the other Jacksonville "Fine-Dining" restaurants that are mostly just a big miss. For those true "Foodies" I know that living and dining in Jacksonville has got to be a mostly frustrating and disappointing journey. And having spent the last 8 years in San Diego, the difference in quality, service, and value hits you in the face like an unwelcome hand slap. I like Jacksonville, which is part of why I am disappointed that it seems nobody has figured out how to provide the caliber of consistent high end food service with experienced servers that is an integral part of any great city. And it's not because the "good old boys" don't want it, they love to eat! The server tripped all over fancy words that he was not certain how to pronounce, seemed more confused about the cheese selection on the charcuterie tray than I was. He tried way too hard to impress us. It came across as a pre-canned, phony presentation lacking tru connection. Again, no doubt at the direction his managing team thinking this is what a fine-dining experience includes. The big excitement at Mathews centers around the long standing Chefs "pre-fix" 6 course meal that goes for a premium and is a complete surprise to the table. I am not sure who wants to oder a premium dinner and not have any idea what they are going to be served, but thats the deal. The nightly "Fresh Catch" was Halibut, another common flaw made all over Jacksonville again and again. We are surrounded by water folks, get some local fresh fish, make sure it's truly local, and fresh. Halibut's closest habit is the Gulf of Maine. Can someone please go to a foodie city, study, and bring it back to Jax! Its not bells and whistles, its more simple and authentic.

    Absolutely incredible service! The food was amazing. I was craving steak tartare and the waitress told me it was a bit small for an entree. She ended up telling chef who whipped up a wonderful steak tartare meal for me! He made the portion larger and added some tasty rice cakes to the dish that complemented it very well. Wonderful experience! Overall incredible dining experience with the wonderful staff and delicious food!

    Excellent food and service! Drove 2.5hours to get here and so worth it. Had the escargot, so yummy, sopped up every ounce of the sauce with some delicious bread! The scallops were cooked to perfection and the desserts were all outstanding!

    We attended the Welcome Back Dinner for Chef Alex at Matthew's. I believe it was essentially to welcome him back as a Chef/ Partner in the restaurant after his two year leave. They had a guest Sommelier, Craig that was very interesting and knowledgeable. We learned alot about the wine pairing with the food. The meal was great, the wine was great and we met some new people to network with. I would recommend attending any dinner that is a special event there at Matthew's. It was superb!

    What a great experience. How does this place not have a star? Unbelievable!!! Christopher was fantastic, knowledgeable about wine/food pairing. Chef was spot on!!! We had our 30th wedding anniversary there, but would be back any night of the week.

    Matthew's is a perfect special occasion restaurant, with impeccable service, delicious food, and a quiet elegance that is very difficult to find in a restaurant these days. The fresh bread is delicious. The arugula salad is sublime, as was the halibut ceviche as starters. Fresh mussels were served in a delicious broth with a variety of chopped veggies, and were top notch and quite plentiful. The pasta radiatiori is a classic, with wagyu Bolognese and many subtle but complex flavors. The chocolate torte, another classic, was shared as dessert, and was perfect. If you're really adventurous, do the chef's tasting menu, for unexpected and unparalleled delights. A five star experience either way.

    Hands down, the best and most attentive service we've ever experienced. The food was exceptional. For the cost of the tasting menu I will say I was slightly disappointed to not feel full by the end of the meal, but we remedied with a couple souffles!

    We had an amazing birthday dinner. The entire staff was very welcoming and made the night special. A special shout-out to Christopher our server. He was exceptional and very knowledgeable and engaging. Ask for his section when you come! The food was incredible. I recommend the 6 course tasting menu. It gives you a taste of everything.
