Ryan, was awesome! Our entree choice was his recommendation, and we were very pleased! The salts he brought to the table were an added bonus. We were dining at Matthew's because our daughter was attending her senior prom (alone), so we let her choose the restaurant where she wanted to dine, and we accompanied her at the restaurant. We had not visited Matthew's in a while (for no specific reason), but after last Saturday's dining experience, we were quickly reminded of how much we loved the offerings. We enjoyed our dining experience, thoroughly!
We both had the tasting menu with wine pairings. It is an incredible value for delicious, beautiful food and outstanding wines. Thank you for a wonderful date night.
Wonderful. Made our evening so special. The service and food was top notch
Food is very good. Only table available was next to kitchen so we ate in bar area - which is still nice. Bartender did a nice service job. My pork chop was a little on the fatty side and my wife’s salad was a little soggy but besides that, it was an enjoyable meal.
this was an experience I will never forget. Couples that are looking for a romantic spot will not find a better place.
We came here for our anniversary. We were running late and called to make sure we could still have a table. The hostess was very accommodating. I had the snapper which was awesome, and my wife had the pasta. Both were excellent. Service was attentive and polite.
We were very disappointed with our experience, especially, since we have been there before and had great expectations. We brought our own bottle of wine...the corkage fee of $25 was quite exorbitant. It took three requests to three different wait staff to finally open the bottle so it could breathe. We ordered the chocolate soufflé at the same time as our entree, however, the order was never placed to the kitchen. Therefore, we did not have the dessert that we requested. The food in general was "good", not outstanding as we expected. Our appetizer was disappointing as the escargot were drowned in the sauce. My date had the duck which he did not rave about. I had the flounder franchise which was a nice piece of fish, however the potatoes were more than ample...the portion of spinach was too minimal. The portions of each should have been reversed.
The finest dining experience in all of Jacksonville in our experience. We dine there on our wedding anniversary (have done so the past 3 years), and it's always exceptional in every category.
Jeff was our server for the evening and he was outstanding. We couldn't have been any more pleased. Jeff definitely went above and beyond our expectations. And it made us realize that we need to MAKE TIME, no matter what to go to places like Matthew's. We were even given samples and a dessert plus champagne b/c they knew we were celebrating our Anniversary. The food was amazing, the little details made a huge difference, embroidered napkins with an M on them, fresh cut roses on every table. The noise level was perfect. We could see the kitchen area from our dining table and it was immaculately clean. The wine was also on special for Monday nights it's half price bottle night. I was blown away with the wine selection and food we chose based on Jeff's recommendations. We have vowed to make it to Matthew's once a month and only on nights Jeff is working. Jeff took such great care of us!
A perennial star restaurant for special occasions. Recommend without reservation!
We do not go there often, but when we do, we expect exceptional value and were never disappointed.
Overall we had a good dining experience, the veal cheeks were prepared really well and were delicious, a little more gamey than expected but that is a personal preference. we also ordered the Flounder Fricasse (fish of the day) again prepared well except...I requested no black pepper and what I got was no fresh cracked black pepper but lots of the finely ground stuff was obvious, I didn't send it back because i didn't want to eat alone or ask my company to wait for me. I realize that sometimes food is precooked/prepared to allow for a quicker delivery but I should have been told that some black pepper wasn't avoidable.Good thing it was a dislike and not an allergy.
This is an amazing restaurant! Highly recommend it
Food and service were phenomenal! A bit noisy but everyone was having a great time. Had not been back in a while. A terrific way to celebrate a special occasion.
Hosting visiting guests
Never disappoints! The tasting menu is the only way to go! Well done as always!
High end restaurant that was worth every penny! We dined with our daughters (7 and 11-we don't ask for a children's menu). The gnocchi appetizer blew us away. All of the entrees were next level (the duck and tenderloin were cooked perfectly, the pasta bolognese was rich and decadent, and the snapper was perfect). We felt comfortable and welcome and enjoyed 2 hours dining. We will definitely be back!
Awesome all around. Gets a bit noisy as the night goes on but if you get there early enough, it’s perfect.
Incredible food and service
Food was great. Portions were on the smaller side. Staff was exceptional. Overall great experience.
My wife and I always go to Matthew's for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and anything else that requires wonderful Ambience and even more amazing food.
Great food. Service started out strong but towards end of dinner somewhat disappointed. Had to remind server to fill water glasses and inquire about our dessert. Restaurant got very busy and that may have affected server’s attention. Small discrepancy with check but was corrected quickly.
The service was not good at all, after we were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time, we didn't see a wait staff member for another 15 minutes, I know this is valentines day, but most restaurants plan accordingly....
We booked our reservations 5-6 weeks prior to our arrival since we were driving 5 hours and meeting friends for the Valentines menu. We have been to Matthews several times before so we specified a booth in the main dining room. When we arrived the hostess tried to tell us that people are calling in trying to get reservations so the booths were all full. She couldn't even seat us in the main dining room, just the room in back with no ambiance at all. The server never introduced himself, nor asked if we wanted a wine list or drinks. He didn't know about any of the dishes and overall seemed to be bored. He would disappear for long periods and act like we were putting him out, just to fill the water glasses. The manager did step in and try to make things better with a glass of champagne, so thanks for that, but overall it was not impressive at all. We felt like being served in the back room was an afterthought. The food was good, but that's not enough to keep people coming back.
Food bad. Reservation late. Service slow.
Great food, great service, great environment! One thing that they can improve is to make sure the table is not wobbling.
The food was obviously pre prepared. The lamb was dry and food that should have been hot was cold. I would try again ordering from regular menu.
I have entertained customers at Matthews about 7 or 8 times in the last 6 years. Never had a bad meal or service until my last visit on Wednesday, 2/13. We were seated about 6:10 PM for our 6 PM reservation, which was fine. The problem was that we did not get to order food for about and hour and then it took about 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive our orders. We left about 10:10 PM which was much later than we had planned. The food was good but the service time was unacceptable. Hope that they can correct this because I like eating at Matthews.
Disappointed in the onion preparation for the foie Gras. Tough but liver was as usual. Rest was Five Star
Even though our hostess took forever to seat us and sat us at the most awkward table in the restaurant, the food was absolutely amazing and our server was spectacular.
Just a Jacksonville-quality restaurant.
Celebrating my birthday! Matthew’s never disappoints... scallops, perfect , sauce delicious, chocolate soufflé.. YUM!!
The ambiance and service were excellent. David, our waiter, knew the menu well and knew his Whisky and Scotch Whiskey well, which was helpful. I had an out of town guest that enjoyed the experience greatly and it was my first dinner at there. The food was good but not great but totally adequate and didn't detract from the evening. Monday nights at many fine dining restaurants leave a bit to be desired on the food side and this was no exception. Excellent variety of everything. Service, menu, variety, ambiance made the dinner a success. Will try it on a weekend.
Had a business dinner at Matthews. From start to finish, the staff took excellent care of my clients, my colleagues, and me. We weren't rushed and could not have asked for anything more. Will definitely be back again!!
Outstanding experience. My wife and I have dined at Matthew's several times and it is always a great experience. Special thanks to David, Dalvin and Luke. Thank you.
This was our first time here. I don’t travel to San Marco often but it was more than worth the trip. From the service to the food, everything was beyond outstanding. We had the beef tartare, the radiatori pasta and the bacon pork chop. You can taste the passion in the food. Can’t wait to go back.
