I would recommend to friends but it’s not the intimate, upscale feel it used to have. It’s loud and the small plate sizzling steak smells up the entire restaurant! I felt like I was in a fajita place and needed a shower as soon as I returned home! Please improve the circulation in the place or rethink that dish.
Good food thoughtfully prepared. Really enjoyed the tasting menu.
We arrived early and had drinks in bar. Bartender was very helpful and let us see dinner menu. We were seated as soon as we were ready. We were given water and bread right away, then waiter appeared to take our order. The appetizer took no time to arrive. The waiter was very attentive, but not intrusive. He brought the entrees at just the right time, then later dessert. He even asked if we wanted to wait a bit before dessert. All the food was perfect. My husband got fish and I got the pork chop, which was enormous - I took 2/3 of it home, even after giving my husband a generous taste. The bill was very reasonable, considering we had 3 drinks between us, appetizer, 2 entrees, an extra side, dessert, and 2 coffees. Oh - and they gave us both a complementary champagne because it was our anniversary. All in all, a wonderful evening.
We had a Great Date Night dinner prior to a live performance show at the Florida Theatre
Top choice for a great meal and great service, and great menu selection.
I am pleased that the last three visits or so we have had the same server, Dalvin. Previously servers changed with every visit and service changed as well. Dalvin is consistent. He is attentive without being obtrusive. He seems to understand what we want even when it may not be the customary choice. Food is pretty consistently excellent. Prices have increased substantially over the last year or so but Matthew's is still one of my two favorite restaurants in Jacksonville.
We were greeted and seated promptly. Our enthusiastic male server provided intuitive service . We began with foi gras and beef tartare the flavors were so harmonious. The carrot soup and the beet and tomato were seasoned to perfection. Diver scallops and beef were also cooked with moist tenderness and soufflé and tokjai wine paired well . The entire team worked well together from the initial greeting to the grand finale. Great culinary team creating cuisine for us to enjoy. Will definitely return soon !!!
Always one of our favorite places.
Outstanding in every way. Matthew's is far better than any other restaurant in Jacksonville.
Service is usually amazing, but this visit they were under staffed, so our server couldn’t give us (a party of 6) the attention we deserved.
Food was delicious
Matthew’s is the ultimate dining experience in Jacksonville. The food is out of this world delicious, the presentation is top notched, the ambiance is unmatched, and the service is impeccable. We were constantly impressed every time we went there, and were always treated like royalty.
It is always a delight to dine at Matthew's
Food and staff are wonderful....David is a great waiter
The Happy Hour is fantastic. Delicious food items
We do that more because of the cost
We will be back, sooner rather than later
Great food. Always can count on a menu that is great from start to finish. Wonderful cheese plate
Excellent food, nice ambience and very good service.
It wa sour first time to Mathew’s with our 3 sons. We celebrated Mother’s Day one day early due to business travels. The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding.
Great place but my $125.00 Wagyu was not as impressive as others I have had. Would not keep me from going back. Service was outstanding.
We had a great evening at Mathew’s. The food was great, service was personal and the over whole experience was such that we will come back when in JAX.
Had an electrical issue that was not the restaurants fault but the manager did not accommodate a ruined evening well.
Absolutely fabulous restaurant that never disappoints.
Matthew's is always our go to for date night.
There is no better place in Jacksonville for an adventurous eater. The service is always impeccable. The Chef's Tasting Menu is the best around. The flavors are always on point and the wine pairings always compliment the dishes well.
My wife and I always try to add somewhere new to our date spot, but we always end up back at Matthews!
Celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary at Matthew’s was the perfect choice. From the ambiance to the food and the service, we enjoyed every moment! Our dinner culminated in a surprise ‘Happy 1st Anniversary’ dessert on the house. Lovely, delicious and welcoming!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Matthews and we enjoyed every minute! The staff was very accommodating and polite. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the escargot for our appetizer and it was the best escargot I’ve ever had. We will definitely be returning in the future!
Great experience, hadn't been for whatever reason in about 10 years. Sat at the chef's table, had a great converation with the chef and other cooks. The hostess was super nice and made great suggestions, and our waiter could not have been better. Food was amazing, some selections were good while others were fantastic, nothing was bad. Will definitely be back soon for happy hour (bar bites and drinks) and dinner as well.
Our visit was a very special occasion, the staff and chefs were amazing.
The food and service was beyond expectations. The menu and flavors were fantastic. We will go again for sure!!!
the price was very reasonable for the chance to dine like a rich person for a change, the service was so good i was basically treated like royalty
Please try the duck, the chef pick up those duck carefully. It’s tender and juicy. The first bite of the duck, you can feel the meat melting in your mouth like ice cream. The duck meat like a flavor bomb exploded in your mouth.
I had testing menu, the chef picked up food with his heart. He want give you the tests of nature. Made me feels like I’m diving in world of different flavor.
Outstanding in every way. We haven't been to Matthews for a few years, and woke up the next morning questioning why it has been so long. Excellent.
Ryan, was awesome! Our entree choice was his recommendation, and we were very pleased! The salts he brought to the table were an added bonus. We were dining at Matthew's because our daughter was attending her senior prom (alone), so we let her choose the restaurant where she wanted to dine, and we accompanied her at the restaurant. We had not visited Matthew's in a while (for no specific reason), but after last Saturday's dining experience, we were quickly reminded of how much we loved the offerings. We enjoyed our dining experience, thoroughly!
We both had the tasting menu with wine pairings. It is an incredible value for delicious, beautiful food and outstanding wines. Thank you for a wonderful date night.
Wonderful. Made our evening so special. The service and food was top notch
Food is very good. Only table available was next to kitchen so we ate in bar area - which is still nice. Bartender did a nice service job. My pork chop was a little on the fatty side and my wife’s salad was a little soggy but besides that, it was an enjoyable meal.
this was an experience I will never forget. Couples that are looking for a romantic spot will not find a better place.
We came here for our anniversary. We were running late and called to make sure we could still have a table. The hostess was very accommodating. I had the snapper which was awesome, and my wife had the pasta. Both were excellent. Service was attentive and polite.
We were very disappointed with our experience, especially, since we have been there before and had great expectations. We brought our own bottle of wine...the corkage fee of $25 was quite exorbitant. It took three requests to three different wait staff to finally open the bottle so it could breathe. We ordered the chocolate soufflé at the same time as our entree, however, the order was never placed to the kitchen. Therefore, we did not have the dessert that we requested. The food in general was "good", not outstanding as we expected. Our appetizer was disappointing as the escargot were drowned in the sauce. My date had the duck which he did not rave about. I had the flounder franchise which was a nice piece of fish, however the potatoes were more than ample...the portion of spinach was too minimal. The portions of each should have been reversed.
The finest dining experience in all of Jacksonville in our experience. We dine there on our wedding anniversary (have done so the past 3 years), and it's always exceptional in every category.
Jeff was our server for the evening and he was outstanding. We couldn't have been any more pleased. Jeff definitely went above and beyond our expectations. And it made us realize that we need to MAKE TIME, no matter what to go to places like Matthew's. We were even given samples and a dessert plus champagne b/c they knew we were celebrating our Anniversary. The food was amazing, the little details made a huge difference, embroidered napkins with an M on them, fresh cut roses on every table. The noise level was perfect. We could see the kitchen area from our dining table and it was immaculately clean. The wine was also on special for Monday nights it's half price bottle night. I was blown away with the wine selection and food we chose based on Jeff's recommendations. We have vowed to make it to Matthew's once a month and only on nights Jeff is working. Jeff took such great care of us!
A perennial star restaurant for special occasions. Recommend without reservation!
We do not go there often, but when we do, we expect exceptional value and were never disappointed.
Overall we had a good dining experience, the veal cheeks were prepared really well and were delicious, a little more gamey than expected but that is a personal preference. we also ordered the Flounder Fricasse (fish of the day) again prepared well except...I requested no black pepper and what I got was no fresh cracked black pepper but lots of the finely ground stuff was obvious, I didn't send it back because i didn't want to eat alone or ask my company to wait for me. I realize that sometimes food is precooked/prepared to allow for a quicker delivery but I should have been told that some black pepper wasn't avoidable.Good thing it was a dislike and not an allergy.
This is an amazing restaurant! Highly recommend it
