This restaurant is out of business and this is the second time in 4 months that my reservation was moot because they were closed unexpectedly.

Disappointing. Halfway through an order of tempura, I bit into a piece with uncooked batter in the middle. Asked the waiter, who acknowledged that it wasn't right. Offered to make a new order of tempura for us (how much can you eat?), but we ordered a sashimi instead. Happy to pay for the sashimi, but the tempura was still on the bill. When asked, the waiter explained, "Since you had eaten half the order, we bill you for the order." Pointed out that I didn't bite into a piece with raw batter until we were half-way through the order. It wasn't satisfactory, and we should not have been charged. The nigiri itself was not particularly good, which alone would be a reason not to return. But decent customer service is the bottom line, and understanding when a customer is unhappy with an order should be sufficient reason to deduct the order from the bill.

Don’t know where all these great ratings are coming from. Nothing special about food in fact sub-par. Restaurant was cold. And even after complaining, no change.

While visiting family back home in Livermore, we wanted to have some Japanese food. I noted Matsuyama Kenji on both Yelp and OpenTable - had good reviews, so we decided to go. Greeted warmly and promptly on entry, the restaurant is modern and clean. I had the Chef special sashimi (see picture), my wife had Tonkatsu ramen, and my brother had various sushi rolls. We also had Age Dashi Tofu as an appetizer. Everything was tasty, fresh and well presented. The Age Dashi Tofu had a nice light coating, not greasy, with a flavorful broth - very simple and well done. The fish was very fresh, with an excellent assortment beyond the typical tuna, salmon, etc. The tonkatsu broth had an excellent depth of flavor; the sushi rolls were excellent as well. My brother enjoyed it so much that he and his wife went back there the next night for dinner

Sushi was very fresh and the sushi chef spent time making the sushi! Will definitely be back when we are visiting Livermore.

We enjoy the casual, quiet atmosphere here. The sushi chef, Kenji, is so friendly, he now greets us by name when we walk in. His sushi is tasty as well as beautiful looking. Our server is a sweet young woman, she always serves us with a shy smile, and always ready to refill our water glass.
