Great ambiance - delicious food and great service
Quaint restaurant we ate inside because no outside dining available . Outside looked charming to dine . Food was good mushroom risotto was bland needed salt and didnt taste truffle oil. Dessert was good and lobster soup was very flavorful and came out hot temperature wise which I apprciated.
We went for restaurant week but ended up just ordering from the regular menu and glad we did. Ambiance in the outdoor enclosure was beautiful. Food was well portioned and delicious. I loved the Onion Soup, a lot of bread but it was good. The cheese plate was good also and I usually think those are a ripoff. Beet Salad and Escargot were delish. I think you get 6 snails. But it comes in a bunch of garlic oil that you can dip bread in. My only complaint is a $28 corkage fee! I mean, that's a little bit of a slap in the face, considering I tried looking up their corkage fee before arriving but its not listed. $28 is ridiculous, but I suppose what they decide to charge for that is their prerogative. I paid it.
Mathilde was a charming experience, what with the space, the food, and the service. The shrimp pastis is not to be missed (it was the day’s special)! The homely feel of the place - it’s very quaint in a very French way - and the quality of the cooking were especially what recommend this place to me.
Very good food and nice atmosphere. Wait staff was a bit rude though
low key best french bistro in sf. I only rate them because I want them to stay in business. Otherwise I’d keep this secret and send people elsewhere
Mathilde's continues to be awesome. Excellent food, excellent service, and a very nice outdoor dining area. I would definitely recommend!
Beautiful outdoor garden in the back. Great service. Great food. Highly recommended
Went here for our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. Ambiance was beautiful and the food was very good!
Every step of our birthday dinner was perfect. Starting with incredible Boeuf Bourguignon Ravioli with a walnut vinaigrette, moving on to a delicious French onion soup. Then the perfectly done duck leg confit with Pommes landaises (with that beautiful crunch on the outside and creamy potato interior). The suggestion of a Gigondas with dinner complemented a decadent meal. Dinner concluded with a lovely Tarte Tatin paired with Pommeau de Normandie.
All along the way, the service was exquisite and friendly, making this “landmark” birthday celebration memorable. I will finish by saying that it is such a pleasure to return to eating out and experiencing dining that truly is special.
A perfect meal, great service and a beautiful outdoor space
Lovely food and service. The food is very close to the food I received in Paris for my years there. The staff is excellent and very accommodating. For my last night in San Francisco (for a bit), this restaurant was a wonderful treat! Merci!
We were thrilled to find this gem with its tucked-away patio that is perfectly appointed. The service was so attentive and the food magnificent! We will be back.
Wonderful little French bistro. Highly recommend.
Been going here for years, but had not been in years! This is seriously good French Bistro Food! As good as I have had anywhere in France!!!!! The beautiful Patio is quiet, romantic and quiet! And now perfectly, socially distanced!
Great place good service will definitely come back again
This was our first time at Mathilde and it was a delight, beginning to end. Charming courtyard, attentive staff, excellent food. Sure, we wore a mask part of the time as did the servers and the tables were 6' apart. But other than those minor accommodations, this was the closest we've had to "just going out to dinner for a great meal" since the pandemic began. My filet was perfectly cooked. My wife loved her scallops. The soupe a l'oignon was terrific, and I enjoyed the mousse au chocolat. We'll be back!
Such a pleasant experience. Food, service, and ambiance were both outstanding. We'll definitely be coming back!
Lovely French bistro in SOMA...they have a great rear patio for relaxed and safe dining...food is very rich, and loaded with butter...but, thats the style...bon apetit
We are still talking about the potatoes with the Duck. The risotto was excellent. We will be back. I only wish that the heaters were stronger. It would be nice not to wear a down jacket while eating. But this seams to be the case at all the restaurants we have been to.
We would both order the same thing again it was that good
Excellent food and excellent service! A very special place...
A small intimate restaurant featuring comfort French food. Enjoyable
Great place to go to during Covid. The back patio dinning has always been there and the original owner is still there. So glad this neighborhood gem is still surviving and will visit again. The patio has heaters but still bring a jacket in case it gets too cold. I feel like as fall is approaching fine dinning restaurants should open a bit earlier as no one will probably want to continue to dine when it is so cold.
Excellent as always. Had the Fish and it was wonderful. The Tarte Tatin delicious.
Marvelous! My husband and I had a full-course meal, as this was our first trip out to a sit-down restaurant since March, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Food was prepared perfectly, service was exceptional, and despite a full house (albeit pared down due to COVID-19 restrictions) it was easy to converse. We will definitely be returning.
The food was outstanding, but the service was indifferent and definitely not up to par for the amount we were paying. Our hostess/waitress literally did not smile our entire meal. When we were unsure of what wine to order, she said nothing and walked away. Considering that the food- yummy onion soup and arctic char for my husband and the scallops for me was delicious, but again, presented with no comment. Don't think we would want to pay that much to be ignored again.
What a hidden gem! I was skeptical going in because I had never heard of it and it’s in a tough area, but I cannot sag enough good things about this place. The ambiance in their courtyard is lovely and intimate. The menu is small but fantastic. The French onion soup was amazing. The cheese board was amazing. The staff pays so much attention to your needs and are always there when needed. It’s quite authentically French and the entire staff was clearly French as well, which I feel always speaks to the authenticity of a restaurant. I love supporting businesses like this! We will be back- and soon!
Lovely service. Excellent food. It felt like I stepped out of San Francisco into a small French Bistro.
We just love this place. Excellent food!!! Excellent Service!!! Our new favorite place.
A small neighborhood gem restaurant with ample patio seating and friendly wait staff.
This was a birthday dinner and the service and food was exceptional. We started the dinner at 5:00 and ended at 8:00. They never rushed us and from the start very friendly. The food was great.
I'd eaten at Mathilde once in preat-covid times and had enjoyed it. At that time I sat indoors and noticed that they had an open air patio at the back of the main dining room. Now during the covid19 restrictions, this is the perfect open air dining area! The service was great. The food was also very good. My friend and I shared 2 salads: the Butter lettuce salad, and the warm goad cheese salad. Both salads were really good. We both ordered the arctic char for our entrees, and we really enjoyed that too. For desert I had the profiteroles which were filled with ice- cream - these were also fantastic. My friend had a desert that was a special on the menu that night, baked french meringue in a pool of vanilla sauce, and she really enjoyed that.
Well done to all of the staff at Mathilde for creating a wonderful dining experience during these challenging times.
Excellent food at reasonable prices.
Nice restaurant with a quaint patio. Everything was delicious. I will return often!
Wonderful meal and dining in the rear tented courtyard was quite enjoyable.
Wonderful birthday feast!
Everything we ordered was delicious. Good service, and our food came out quickly. The patio has a great ambiance, and it’s the perfect place to dine with indoor dining closed.
Classic romantic French bistro with charming and unpretentious ambiance. Excellent attentive service.
It was an amazing experience. Food and service were great!
Everything was amazing! The food was exquisite and the service exceptional.
