Food was not so good...place was empty on a Saturday night, we should have known why!
Over rated! I did not like this place at all
Waiter forgot half our order.
Food was good but nothing memorable and he service was terrible. I think it is overrated.
service was AWFUL
Awesome place with even better sushi.
We celebrated my friend’s birthday. The food and the music was good. The staff made everything possible so we can have a great time.
Awesome place to grab sushi and drinks at the bar.
It was ..fine. Sushi and drinks were just .. fine. Certainly not worth the price. I have been here before and don’t think it’s as good as it used to be sadly.
Good food and great atmosphere
The food was below average. The service was poor and the atmosphere was bizarre.
The food never came an hour and 20 Min after we ordered and everyone one around us got their food shortly after they arrived. We ended up walking out as we had movie tickets.
Service was terrible because they were short staffed. They served saki in tumblers? And a Duvel in a pint glass? Not sure who manages their bar, but they need to get their service glasses straightened out.
Great vibe, contemporary set up, amazing food. Mate hits the mark every time, although my waitress was having a bad day lol
As always it was a wonderful time had at Mate. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. Our server was friendly and took care of all of the tables needs.
The food was great as always, I had ceviche, Volcano and Buenos Aires rolls...simply perfection and my drink, the Mango Martini was just what I needed on a Saturday night.
I'll definitely return and recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have an amazing sushi dinner in a sexy cool place.
Very nice place, totally recommended for sushi and date night.
The overall experience was just good.
Service was not to the usual standards. We were seated and left unattended. Once we ordered only half of our order so we had to wait another 15 for the rest of our dinner.
Mate forgot to bring out 2 appetizers we ordered and yet one still appeared on our bill even though we asked them to remove it.
It was great overall! The restaurant is beautiful and the location is great. The speciality rolls are a bit pricey but definitely worth it.
The sushi was only fair. Service not attentive. Reasonable prices for happy hour, but would not go back.
Mate was very average for Sushi and the service made it seem really less than average. Obviously someone called out sick because we had one waitress for what it looked like every table in the restaurant. What I didn't get though is the Maitre D' was sitting people and when he had nothing to do was really just standing around instead of at the very least getting drink orders. We waited approx. 10 minutes before even ordering our drinks. So right away my impression was not that terrific. The food did come out pretty quick though once we did order. The food was good, nothing that any other mediocre sushi place delivers. So I don't know that I would return to this place again when I come back to DC. There are so many restaurants in the area to try first before I give Mate another shot.
Terrible service, would not recommend this restaurant if you want an enjoyable evening.
Awful. The food was terrible and service equally bad.
Great Location to the movie theater and eclectic sushi selection.
Pretty good but not great. Expensive drinks that were sub-par. Cocktails were crazy sweet. Sushi pretty good. Sake not so great, but cheap (relative to the rest of the drinks). "Swanky" would be the best way you describe the decor. got loud towards the end of dinner when Friday night was starting up. I'd go back, probably.
Sushi was not fresh, presentation lacked creativity/proper segmentation, and the waitress unfortunately made several mistakes.
The place had a great vibe and all the music they played was spot on! The sushi was delicious and the service was the greatest part of all. Definitely recommend!
I tried the place at the request of some friends, because any other place that I ate sushi at, I was not impressed. I tried Mate Lounge and was immediately impressed. So impressed, that I went back within a week. Great spot to relax at after a long work week!
Went to Mate for dinner on a Saturday night. Definitely appreciated the price point - with two appetizers, two beers, and two sushi rolls it still only came down to $25 per person. Food was good - nothing to write home about but definitely solid sushi for the price. Only thing really lacking was the service - each course took a long time and our waitress forgot to put in one of the appetizers so we ended up taking a long time to make it through the meal. Very modern ambiance.
Food was delicious and the ambiance was very chic. It was a busy night, and our waitress seemed a bit flustered. The food took a while to come, but the taste made up for that. Overall a cool restaurant with a great take on sushi!
The words Dumpster Fire would be generous. We were there 90 minutes. We waited over 40 minutes for 2 tolls and some sashimi... never did get our meals. We left after waiting for the terrible servers to bring us the bill for the soggy edamame and small carafe of sake that we actually managed to get delivered to our table and it was $48. This place used to be solid but the staff they have now is terrible. Avoid.
It took one hour for them to bring a salad and 2 sushi rolls . About 45 min in the waitress came over to tell us that our order had been given to someone else by accident. No apology, no offer to pay for their oversight.
Food was solid. Service awful.
It was my friends 22nd birthday and it the service was incredible about celebrating it. They gave us complementary shots, let the cute bartenders sing happy birthday, and were incredibly patient about our ordering (it all looked so good it was hard to decide). Great service, great location, great food. Very nice atmosphere too.
The food and atmosphere is always on point! I always go there for the sushi and I must say it has to be the best sushi in D.C. For sure!
Great place for dinner. Music selection was good, very up beat. Whole restaurant had good vibes. Overall great experience!
We LOVE their sushi and drinks. The atmosphere is calming but chic, makes for a good date spot :)
Took forever for services awful quality of sushi - can’t believe it’s still in business.
The music was so loud that it was difficult to hear my partner. Also, the service was strange since we were tucked in a corner. Food is average.
Great spot for a date night. Very hip / trendy.
