Matchbox - Pentagon City

The food was cold the server was not good far cry from my first experience at your downtown DC location to put plain it was terrible.
Excellence service and food. We were tucked away in a quieter part of the restaurant which made it easier to talk. The server Kalvin and the manager were both very friendly and attentive. We got to take advantage of the happy hour menu which saved us some money. The small pizza and salad were perfect for 2 to share. The Meyer lemon cake was a great end to a relaxing meal.
Suprisingly poor service on recent visit. Has been much better at other times.
This place is fine, nothing special, and a bit overpriced. Servers were pleasant but seemed to lack training. Food kinda got slammed down, waiter seemed unfamiliar with wine list. Caesar dressing tasted like mayo. Our Open Table reservation wasn't acknowledged and I got a message afterwards that we were a no show.
It was fantastic. It was a perfect brunch experience.
The noise level was terrible, there were several young students on the top level of the restaurant and they didn’t have a chaperone. They made so much noise my party couldn’t hear ourselves talking to each other. Food was cold and we had to send it back .
My husband and I usually love this restaurant, but this past Thursday night there was a party of over 200 kids upstairs and it was too loud and the staff was stretched thin.
I wish when I made the reservation that I had known about the big group, as we would have gone else where with our friends.
Very busy for a week night, but the wait staff was excellent.
We have enjoyed Matchbox on many occasions. Sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes not. It lacks consistency of service and food quality. On this occasion, Daniel was a nice server. The food remains inconsistent in preparation across visits.
I'm adding Matchbox in Arlington to the list of places I'll never step foot in again. We had a reservation at 7:15pm, arrived at 7:08. The "hostess" said "Your table isn't read yet." That was all. How about saying, "Your table will be ready in a few minutes. How about having a seat at the bar and we'll call you when it's ready." Nope.
Then we got seated. I was looking on the menu for my favorite, the Black Bean Veggie Burger. So I asked the waiter, "Do you no longer have the black bean veggie burger?" His reply was "Is it on the menu?" I happen to know that it's still on the lunch menu. So he could have said "Its only on the lunch menu. Let me ask if we can make one for you." I complained to the manager about both of them and we left .
Food was very good but server was minimally engaging and seemed annoyed to be working. Special occasions not acknowledged.
did not seem to know i had a table reserved
I took my niece here for her sweet sixteen and it was not a good experience. Our food took a FOREVER to come out. On top of that it was overcooked twice. To top everything off, a mouse ran across our foot at the table as we were packing up to go. The manager stated "Yes, we get mice from time to time because they come from the mall." as if that was supposed to make it alright.
The food was ok. The spinach and artichoke dip was really good! The pizza was just ok. The dough tasted like it wasn't made with high quality flour. The menu said it would have blue cheese, if it was on there you couldn't taste it. Service was SO SLOW! We waited close to an hour for our pizza and when it came out it wasn't even hot. We were too hungry to send it back. Our waiter, while very personable, was very, very slow.
They were very accommodating to our party of 17. Food was delicious also. Our waitress was very nice. Only thing is that the dinners came out at all different times and two of our guests didn’t get there’s until everybody else was done. They did comp the meals though. We would go again.
Great! Variety on the menu, good service.
My friend and I both had their all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch with $3 mimosas. All of the food was excellent and service was wonderful.
Server fishy exploration what was in the dish. Contained an allergen. Staff was rude to me about having to remake. Ended the evening with the runs.
Outstanding service and great food! Our waiter took care of us 2 nights in a row!
The Resturant ran out of red wine during happy hour and made us buy the higher priced bottles. Poor planning on the inventory.
They refused to accept my $50 Open Table gift certificate. What is the value if restaurants refuse to accept them?
We fell in love with this concept long ago, and it is no longer the same, at last based on this recent visit.
1. We had a reservation on a pretty slow Sunday evening at 5:00. The two host(s) had a long debate about where to seat us. They asked "up or down?" we said up. They took us to a "down" table, only to see it was not cleaned or set, so the host just walked away and left us standing there wondering what to do? Moments later he comes back to take us upstairs. He seats us and we hear him telling the server they have been sat, then an arguments follows about who's table it is. Riley greets us some time later, and we ask about the soup of the day. He says we don't have a soup of the day, we say the menu says you do? He says, "Oh, we must have run out from brunch."
OK... I order a glass of Zinfandel, he walk away and comes right back, "what did you want?"
Zinfandel I say, and he says "Oh... we don't have Zinfandel"
I say well... it's on the menu, I have to show him on the menu where it proclaims the "Matchbox Zinfandel" the restaurant is so proud of. He says "Oh.." in the most aloof way, shrugs... and leaves the table.
The food was not the Rock Star meal we remember from the city, the sliders have absolutely nothing on the bun. Literally a dry patty, the worlds thinest picked, and butkis! No mayo, no secret sauce, no anything, just plain and dry as a tumbleweed.
My wife ordered the meatball, not the meatball spaghetti, the meatball. What she got was a huge meatball spaghetti. Again, not what she wanted, not what she ordered.
The food was below expectation, and we will not be back.
Service was slow. Waited 1 hour and 15 to get my food. Had to ask 3 times if my salad was coming out. Waiter said he would check but never gave me a answer. No utensils on the table. I do relies it was a Saturday evening but wait time was to long. I did talk to the manager and he comp the salad and was very nice and did not use how busy they were as an excuse.
The service was great...until it got crowded. The server was clearly overwhelmed and then it became frustrating. Good food and ambiance. I would not go back if it is crowded.
The crispy half chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Our waitress Jersey made our day with her personality and service. The front of the house staff could use some training. I waited an unnecessarily long time for a table of 2 and probably would still be standing there if I didn’t check on it.
Service was great. Enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to a live band. Food could have been better..They got everything going expect the food. It wasn’t bad but a place like that should serve better food.
The brunch was terrible. The food was cold and for a brunch this was incredibly disappointing.
Thought the food was excellent including The pizzas, short rib pasta and risotto balls. While our server was friendly, enthusiastic and offered her opinion on dishes when asked, the service and pacing between courses is terrible. Both server and our food disappeared for long stretches and it felt as if Matchbox had closed and forgot to ask us to leave!
A great place for families or groups
Got to the restaurant and my reservation was not ready right away. I had requested a booth with window and was able to get it after waiting about 10mins. The Spinach dip for appetizer was good and the chicken pesto pizza as my entree was just right. The blueberry French toast with ice cream was so delicious. I had 2 drinks from the menu and they were quite pricey for the drink to taste like it hardly had alcohol in them.
Brunch was a great value, really enjoyed all of the options, the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will be back.
Please bring back the Banh Mi Sandwich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Had a good meal at Matchbox - no complaints on the food or facility. What I did think very odd is that they wouldn't split a check for our two families (total of 7 people) because they have a policy that they won't split checks for groups of more than 6. Seems to me it should be based on the number of checks per table, not the group size - I can absolutely understand having limits on this, but their current method is completely illogical. and frustrating and I would certainly suggest amending it.
This restaurant has an issue with service dogs and persons who are disabled. First time they put us far away from everyone, hostess was a hostile about the service dog, and I had to ask for a different table. The table they put us at had a weird ledge and there was no way to place my service dog under the table because of it. That time the service and food made up for the hostess initial poor service.
Today was similar where we were placed all alone in a section that looked closed. I just didn’t want to make a scene and ask for a better table. I had just encountered a young person who fist up started to hit me when a command I gave my dog was misunderstood as a comment to them. Sigh.
Anyway, they put us in a part of the restaurant unassigned. It took almost 10 mins to have anyone come by the table and another 15 mins to get water which ended up being sprite (it was supposed to be club soda). The liquor was delivered before the water....that wasn’t water. Then the food took forever. My water wasn’t refilled. And the two waiters had a discussion nearby on who was supposed to be our server. The manager did come by with offers of free food, drinks etc... but in reality all we wanted was to be treated like everyone else. Not placed in a far away empty part of the restaurant because I am disabled. And a couple glasses of water. How hard could that be? I can’t recommend this restaurant and won’t likely return.
Dry, tasteless pizza
Great food; great staff and service. Highly recommend.
Love it here. Had the beef Rigatoni. Great service. Nice job Erik!
The food was pretty good, and if you have a smaller party you might have a different experience with the service. Our group of 6 had poor service, including incorrect orders, forgotten orders, no drink refills (cocktails, iced tea, or water), various people delivering food or drink to the table, and then never returning with any requests that were made (such as boxes or refills) and the waiter never once came back to the table to ask how things were once we had our food. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant for groups who have to split a check, the waiter just dumped a pile of checks on the table for us to sort out, and then dumped a stack of credit cards and receipts on the table after he rang up our orders. Skip it and head to Epic Smokehouse where they can accommodate a group.
I find the food at Matchbox to be nothing special and usually served lukewarm but it is convenient in Pentagon City. It’s not bad but I go for the convenience and the outdoor dining upstairs.
Must have had a new waiter and this delayed our drinks and food
