I only went here for lunch because cpk had too much construction noise. I remember when matchbox sold good food.
Overpriced, small portions and mediocre presentation. You can only have small portions if your food is good. In this case it was not.
Good place to have drinks but otherwise not good.

The food was great but the service was only so-so. Our pizza arrived before the salad and even the drinks. Our server also disappeared for long stretches and seemed to forget we were waiting for a box at the end of the meal.

Most food is excellent. Ambiance is great. Servers are nice and polite. However the service is extraordinarily SLOW. The shrimp and grits is Fantastic! However, little to no difference between the appetizer portion and the entree portion.

Food took two hours to come out and it was just pizza and apps. Server only came over once every 30 minutes so we didn’t get to fully utilize happy hour specials. Manager did comp pizzas but we still had to pay for everything else and food wasn’t worth waiting two hours.

Matchbox Pentagon City is a good stop after shopping. The noise inside, however, is very loud and distracting.

The waiter was awful. He didn't know the menu and got frustrated with us, brought 2 of the incorrect wines, it's was so noisy that I couldn't hear my co worker.
..just overall an unpleasant experience

It was Mother's Day. We were there with friends from out of town, one of whom was clearly a mother with her two toddlers there. There was quite a lack of attention to detail with regards to service. I felt like I was our table's secondary waiter since I had to keep jumping up to ask for things that should be a given at a restaurant, like silverware, refills on water, napkins, etc.

You really need to hire more people. This was a pretty embarrassing experience for me. I felt absolutely awful taking my friends here for their trip to DC. Our server even acknowledged the poor service at the end of the meal, apologizing for things taking so long, and gave me a voucher for 10 bucks off of brunch. But honestly, I would've just paid an extra 30 dollars to just have things happen as they should at a restaurant in a timely fashion.

I mean, we got there at 6:45. We left at 9:15. No appetizers. No special alcoholic drinks. Just dinner and dessert. Clearly two toddlers at the table who probably should be asleep by 9. Observe and have better situational awareness.

Visited on Mother's Day our party ended up not being as large as expected so we asked if we could consolidate and at first they didn't think they could honor our request but they found a way to seat us together. The young lady at the front desk was very pleasant. Our server Jasmine was great!

Although I made reservations in advance, but there was a wait to get seated. The plates on our table were not clean. The waitress took way too much time taking our order and bringing out the food. Order wasn’t taken correctly first time, but adjustments were made fine. Overall, this was for a mother’s day lunch and a very busy day for the restaurant, but didn’t feel restaurant was prepared for a busy day filled with families. I have been to other Matchbox locations and wasn’t very happy at the Pentagon City one as much as the others I’ve been to.

Went to Matchbox for brunch on Mother’s Day and the service was terrible, but the food was excellent. Waited 25 minutes for coffee and 55 minutes for food. It was likely because it was Mother’s Day, but other tables that came in after us got their food much faster and the waiter was more attentive to large tables (probably because he would get a bigger tip from them). I would go again, but not on a holiday.

This was the worst Mother's Day brunch of my life (pre and post children).

The service was atrocious and it was ridiculously over priced. The brunch was "all you can eat" but very small plates. We didn't even receive half of the items we ordered even though we had been there for over 2 hours. My son's french toast was made incorrectly TWICE and the second time I just took it because he was super hangry. He only ate two bites and the waffle I ordered for him instead never came.

The food that did come, we bland, cold and mediocre.

The cost, 91 freaking dollars. They saw we were upset though and brought us...2 $20 gift cards! Why would I ever go back?!?

Slooooow service even by Mothers Day brunch status. Small portions took forever to arrive and they forgot items. For $40 per person — and none of us had a drink — expected much more.

Waiter was confused and wandered right by us more than once while we actively attempted to flag him down. Took 15 more minutes to get the bill and credit card back.

We had a pleasant meal but the service was terrible and the food was fine. It took us 20 or 30 minutes to get a glass of water and then another 20 minutes to get the drinks we ordered. We were incredibly excited about the brunchbox option and the food served was fine but not great and we both felt that it had either been prepared hours in advance or that there was no care in the preparation.

We went for brunch on Mother’s Day. The food and ambiance were fantastic. My wife and kids thoroughly enjoyed. I am glad we made an early reservation. Once the restaurant starts filling up the time between getting our next courses took quite some a while. I would still recommend brunch, just get an early reservation.

I am hoping that my experience this time was an aberration. I picked Matchbox because it always been so dependable. Not his time. Start with having the wrong beer delivered, then the wrong pizza, and long waits for drinks because there was only one bartender for this enormous restaurant. And not enough servers for the dinner rush. I have never been disappointed in the quality of food at Matchbox but there was something off; my buddy ordered a pepperoni and banana pepper pizza (a feature menu item). No peppers. Other buddy ordered a spicy meatball pizza: not enough meatballs for each slice. Both had so much garlic in the sauce they were unappealing. For the price you pay, A LOT, they should be spot on. I’ll stick to the old Barracks Row location from now on, or just skip it all together until I hear better things.

Normally one of our fav places but not this night. Waiter was no responsive and took forever. Salad came out last and was cold. She was to busy talking to her mates at the top of the stairs.
We will be back and hopefully have better service.

My partner and I generally have a good time visiting this Matchbox location which is a short walk from home. We’ve been many times however when we are seated upstairs, good service and the experience is greatly diminished. We generally order beer or wine with a Salad and pizza (sometimes an appetizer too). It takes forever for the drinks to come to the table and the appetizer and or salad and pizza come out at the same time making for a very crowded two-person table. The restaurant was extremely cold to the point of shivering on this occasion. Our waiter finally addressed the coldness about halfway through the meal and the cold air was turned off. As I said before, the experience with dining downstairs is much different and much more pleasurable. I will be requesting or waiting for a table there from now on.
