I had artichoke & spinach dip with chips, it was great! I had the The Pessimist red wine, pizza with bacon, garlic finished with avocado & arugula. Bread pudding for dessert.

Overall the experience was fine but there was a significant wait time for service. The server explained that they were short staffed and did her best. It's not that there was a rush of customers, there were only 5 tables occupied outside and a few indoors. I consider it a management issue not to have adequate waitstaff.

Absolutely horrible! Our waitress was great, however the bartender was horrible! We sat one level up with our kids and we were still about to hear the inappropriate conversations the bartender was having while she stood behind the bar. That’s how LOUD SHE WAS! I also ordered a peach mimosa and it was made with peach liquor and sparkling. I sent it back because that’s not what I ordered. I asked can I have a regular orange mimosa. I watched the bartender put orange juice in the same mimosa I sent back then the proceeded to serve it to me again. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! This is a company I spend money with every Sunday without a doubt. I’m truly sad that it has come to an end because of an unprofessional and inappropriate bartender

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Capitol Hill area. I go here every time I come to DC. The food is great. This time I came with family and we had 2 disabled people. I forgot to put that in the reservation - my fault - but they are noticeably disabled (canes and wheelchair). The first floor was pretty much empty but they still sat us in the upper area. Yes my mom and sister can use stairs with assistance, but when the other tables were empty the majority of our time there, it didn't make sense. Our waitress was sweet but more attentive to other tables as we were the table in the kitchen. Our appetizers came before our drinks. My drink was wrong. But at the end of the night, the food is always amazing which is why I would still come back again. But...a little sensitivity training reminder to how to seat customers is needed.

Went there on August 6th,2023 Waited over 30minutes for water—never got a server and the bartender had to support (Ravaughn was great). RAT ran from the kitchen up the stairwell about 15mins after we received our pizza. Worst Matchbox location in DC

Honestly, I thought the food was mediocre and the service was slow. We didn't have cocktail napkins or coasters and our drinks were sweating all over the table which resulted in puddles of water that were streaming off the table.

Pope, the bartender is amazing. He was attentive. He also noticed no one came to take our order, so he ended up waiting on our table...in addition to his primary role as bartender. He made our evening!

We are visiting DC after moving away 6 years ago. We always thought Matchbox was a fun restaurant that did pizzas, burgers and salads VERY well. After our long trip we decided that our old friend Matchbox would do the trick for a quick bite. The restaurant did not seem crowded but we waited several minutes to be seated. Once we were seated no one came over for 10 minutes. A very nice waitress said she would take care of us - but the service was incredibly slow. My husband asked her about a specific beer and she said it is on tap and beer. She clearly was not familiar with the beer choices. He asked for a taste - big mistake - that took another 10 minutes. Finally my beer came out with one of the requested waters. Then 10 minutes later the salad and pizza came out together. We had to wait for silverware. Finally my husband's' beer came out. I believe our waitress was new and inexperienced. She was very nice but someone should be training her. There seemed to be enough staff to run things smoothly but that was not happening. Sorry to say - we will not be going back to Matchbox.

It was way too hot inside. We asked to open the front doors to get a breeze and they said no, so we opened it ourselves. Never got water refills. Ordered a sandwich with avocado which was brown couldn’t eat it. Not a place I would recommend.

It’s a cute spot. The food was good as hell. Got the blackened salmon and grits and my partner got the Cajun shrimp pasta and they were both LOADED with flavor. Will be back.

Food was great, as always, but the service was so abysmal, it was genuinely shocking. Night-ruining. When we came early for our res, we were asked, "can y'all just wait until your reservation, we're super busy," when there were obviously open tables. The manager caught us on our way out and said, "nah, come back in, we have a table for you." Our server spoke to us a total of four times: when he got our drink order, when he got our food order, when he brought our food, and when he gave us the check. Like, dude, you have to check on us, we didn't even have silverware or napkins at our table. What if the kitchen wasn't on top of things and our food was incorrect? We had to flag down other staff to get literally anything done the whole night. And what was our server doing in the meantime? Surely it was helping other tables out? Nope. Dude was chatting it up with his other friends on staff, laughing at the server's station near the hostess stand. Zero awareness. And when he did come to take our check, he just kinda wandered around with my credit card for over 5 minutes. Then, I kid you not, looked at us and audibly said, "oh, sh*t." THEN he rang us up at his chatting location AKA the server's station. Like, was he high on his shift or just super poorly trained? Overall, find a different Matchbox to have dinner at, because this one, while it has the great food, will ruin your night with the potential utter lack of service.

We used to eat here every week before they switched ownership a few years ago. It has definitely gone way down hill since then. Service was so slow we almost walked out. I got the Miso Salmon and would not recommend. Pizza was ok.

Our party ordered chicken fettuccine, ribeye and ribs. The fettuccine was delicious, however, the ribs were a small serving and the rib eye was over cooked. I ordered medium rare and it was medium well. The waiter did not return to the table for quite some time and there was not an opportunity to return the steak. Also, I had to ask for and wait about 10 minutes for a steak knife. We then waited about 15 minutes to pay our check…. Just not great service for us.

The brunch was very good!! Bottomless mimosas and brunch bundle is a steal! I was so full and tore up lmao me and my love had an amazing Sunday brunch and we will be back next weekend! Also it was not crowded at all which is good if you hate crowds like me,

My gf came back into town to celebrate our daughters 9th birthday! We made a ressy but had a slow start to the meal. Our drinks werent the same as when we have come before although we ordered the same ones. (Pics included) our server once he got his other large party situated was AMAZING! Very thoughtful and personable. The food tasted great although it came out separately. My daughter felt so special for her birthday and we had an amazing time. Thank you so much. Definitely great for family fun, date night or a girls night out! Will definitely be back
