Match Restaurant & Lounge
Food was very good
Service was not good, we wait 35 minutes for a salad
Headed to the Billy Joel concert and wanted a quick dinner beforehand. Found Match as close to downtown (and right across the street from the Light Rail) so booked a reservation and headed there. Great atmosphere! We were quickly seated by a gracious host, and almost immediately our server came over to take drink orders. [Excellent wine and cocktail lists, btw. My wife had the Monet, and I had the Rembrandt. Both were outstanding.]
My wife ordered the pork chop and I ordered the scallops. Pork chops were ok (a tad dry) but great flavor. The scallops were excellent, as was the risotto that it was served upon.
We'll definitely be back. Saw the brunch menu and want to try it too. My only small complaint is that there is very little parking (although there is a valet for the hotel and restaurant).
The food was amazing! The salmon was mouth watering good. Highly recommend this gem!
Loved the service we received at Match. Everyone was so attentive and made our experience memorable. We’ll be back for sure!
The weather the night we ate there was perfect for outdoor dining, but we sat "inside". However, the walls of the restaurant all fold open so that there are basically just pillars left and that made the inside feel like we were outside and it was perfect. My wife had scallops that were among the best she ever had and my pork chop was great. We learned toward the end that some staff had called in sick and so they were short-handed, but our server Sara and the manager made it feel like everything was normal even though they were hustling to keep up with all the tables. In all, it is a nice, comfortable spot with good food that can easily be configured to match the weather.
We loved it... was with my 3 sisters staying for just a night at the Found:Re hotel (also fantastic!) and had a very nice meal, great value, in a very cosmopolitan atmosphere, which was just what we were looking for... Will stay again when/if I come back to the area.
Server did not seem to know anything about the menu!! Food was good but crab cake salad should have come with two crab cakes not one. Wine overpriced. Great ambience.
Manager is AMAZING. Her name is Morgan and she made our visit!
Though service was slow, food is very good and drinks are even better.
Entry from the street is a bit confusing. Dark, industrial decor inside. Not many tables taken at lunch time on a Monday. Our server was very prompt, informative, on top of things and the food was very well prepared and tasty as well as a good value. I'd rate it a good place for a casual, affordable lunch downtown.
Match’s Valentine’s Day is always incredible.thank you for a wonderful evening with unique and amazing courses
The restaurant was rented out for a company event (It was a Saturday night). I was not told this when I made the reservation. We were immediately located to a small outdoor patio. The DJ inside kept interrupting the music to scream at the people attending the Corp event. I assume not realizing he was broadcasting to us on the patio as well. The service was very good and the food was good. Just hated this particular experience. The worst part - we were entertaining out of country guests.
My family and me had dinner at Match for my birthday dinner and everything was great from the minute we got to our table. Our server Jennifer was amazing. The food was wonderful and the service was wonderful. I have eaten at a lot of high end restaurant in my life and the service and food we experienced at Match was just as good. I will definitely be back for more.
Match is a very hip downtown hangout with delicious food and drink at reasonable prices! Highly recommend!!
Although there was nothing wrong with our service, the manager kept coming over and apologizing. Maybe we were mistaken with another table. Anyway, the food choices were very good but, even though the restaurant was not very crowded, some of our food came out a bit on the cooler side; one dish came out 5 minutes after all of the others. You can tell they're working to make everything come together.
The bar service was terrible - long waits for simple drinks when there were not many patrons in the entire restaurant/bar/patio BUT the server was very nice and apologetic. Food was delicious, and patio seating is awesome! I'd try it again- hopefully will have a different bartender managing the bar service.
Was nice experience. Food was good, service was also quite good.
Nice decor and wanted to go out on the patio, but was overruled by my better half.
We had prawn ceviche which tasted great. Don’t call it prawns then dice the shrimp. I wanted to see prawns!!!
Had the burger which was excellent and creme brûlée
Very tasty and capped of a nice meal
I will return for the food and the patio
The food was good enough, BUT the server was quite poor and one of the menu items was not available.
The worst was when the server brought out the 2nd bottle of wine, which was different from the first, she almost poured refilled a person’s glass and nixed wines, until we stopped her. She had no clue.
Service was a little slow. But the food was tasty. Good portion sizes. I had the burger. My wife had the seafood linguini. And we shared the beet salad.
Under new management Match has pulled out of their tail spin. We enjoyed our entire experience.
Conducted a business lunch and found the atmosphere and service as well as the food to be outstanding!
we have been to Match several times but not recently until this past weekend. the menu and the quality of the food has slipped noticeably
My wife and I were staying at the hotel affiliated with the restaurant. We were there for a New Year’s Eve celebration and heard about this deal which was $130 for a 3 course meal for 2. We had a 5 o’clock seating, I believe we were the first to order from the menu that night. The waitress did not know much about the menu. We asked her questions but she said a majority of the food was new for that night.
To start my wife had lobster bisque and I had mushroom risotto. It was lukewarm at best. We told our waitress and they brought us new appetizers but it was the same result.
The main course was a family style main course and we picked the tomahawk steak with potatoes and vegetables. Since it was served family style we were expecting a slightly larger portion size but it was not. It all came on one dinner plate. The steak was cooked well but it was covered in fat and gristle, the sides were not hot at all. I could of went to Outback Steakhouse for a fraction of the cost and gotten more food ordering just for my self.
Now it is dessert time. My wife had a Saffron Poached Pears with Frozen Honey Mousse. The pear was just a skinned whole pear plopped onto the plate with a scope of honey mouse. I had the berry Trifle with custard and butter cake. It was the size of a Dixie cup serving. The berry truffle also came with some disgusting whipped cheese topping that smelled like blue cheese. I asked the waitress what it was and she had no idea. She even admitted it smell awful. She could smell the cheese from where she was standing. After asking the kitchen staff what it was the kitchen informed her it was something they were trying but admitted it was a bad idea and were getting rid of the topping the remainder of the night. They didn’t offer to take mine back or ask if I preferred something else. $200 total was way to much for this meal. Maybe $20!
This restaurant is sometimes great and other times just so so. I took two new people there and my guess is that they will not be back. Also, they have removed some of the more interesting things from the menu. We will give it another try in a few weeks and if it is not better stop going for a while. Too bad because the location and ambiance are first rate
This was the worst Christmas dinner I could have imagined. We had to request service at every step in the process from providing the menus, to drink orders to delivering the courses. It took over an hour and a half to serve a mediocre cheese and toast appetizer and an equally mediocre salad. At that point, we had, had it and told them we were leaving. To add insult to injury, when I complained to what was supposedly the restaurant manager, he tried to blame the bad experience on my attitude. In the end, he accused me of wanting my meal and drinks for nothing even though I was staying in one of the more expensive rooms at the hotel. I can only hope that they replace the gentleman I spoke with as he should not interact with the public. As mentioned in the beginning of this review, this was one of the worst meals I have ever had.
This place was a hot mess. I have no idea what was going on. Perhaps someone walked off the line or if the servers were begrudge by having to work on Christmas, who knows! I thought Gordon Ramsay was going to appear and start shouting at the cooks! Too bad he didn’t.
It took 3 hours to have dinner, 20 minutes just to get water. It just got worse from there. The food was mediocre at best and definitely overpriced.
In short, we won’t be going back...ever.
The manager did not know about the Christmas Eve email we received from his restaurant for a 5 to 10PM Traditional Mexican Dining experience. The valet told us the restaurant closed at 6PM. The sign at restaurant said 2 seatings at 5 and 8PM. The waitress said 6:30PM closure. Finally seated; food was fine but not memorable. Took us over 2 hours to receive what we asked for. First it came with ingredients I asked not to include. Then it came lukewarm. Waitress told us that the chef went home to be with his daughter and that they had to have someone from food-prep help. Man at table next to us told his waitress that his meatball soup had no meatballs. Lady at another table said they called ahead to see if they could order from menu and were told that would be no problem. Her waitress said they could only order from a few items on menu. Not a positive experience and we should have been offered compensation.
We had first dined here during Restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised so we decided to go back a second time and were not disappointed. Everything was great!
My seafood linguini was exceptional with large shrimp and succulent scallops. The service needs to be ramped up. Noticed poor service the last three times we had dinner or HH at this restaurant.
Great food great atmosphere and great for dates. It is one of the best places in Phoenix that people don't know about yet.
Always great service and great food! Chicken pot pie was absolutely delicious and cocktails are spot on! One of my favorite places to go before a show or downtown event.
The service was amazing. The food was great. Nice atmosphere. Free 2 hour valet psrking.
Foods were good and price was reasonable, however, the waiter and manager never heard about Opening Table system, kind of surprise .
I'd not realized this restaurant is part of a hotel; not that such an affiliation is a disqualifier for selection but 1) it's not readily identifiable from the street and 2) it seems more suited to hotel guests who are looking for a light bite. To quantify light - my husband ordered the fried chicken. What arrived was a plate of mashed potatoes with what looked like the equivalent of maybe 3 or 4 chicken nuggets fused into one sitting on top with a side of green beans. It was the smallest, boneless fried chicken breast we'd ever seen. I mentioned it to the server when she stopped by to ask how everything was (the crust on my chicken pot pie was good - but it was pretty much covering a bowl of soup). Although she looked shocked at my comment, the manager stopped by and we both said that the one small piece of chicken breast was exactly what was expected - he said he'd definitely make it up to us. How? There was no complementary drink, desert or price adjustment. Nice offer, no follow through. No going back. The valets were nice, though.
All 3 of us had excellent dinners. The menu is creative and has options you don’t see in every other restaurant. The flavors were wonderful and the presentation was great.
Interesting and flavorful menu! Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or after-dinner bites & drinks. Convenient location to dine before any downtown Phoenix event, with complimentary valet parking. Our favorite server is gone, but Alicia is superb.
Top notch.....one of downtown’s best!
Delicious fresh food! The server mentioned they have a new menu but they kept popular items. I chose the pizza with the chicken and the sauce was fluffy and so delicious. I haven’t had that sauce on pizza before and it really was heavenly. I tried their cocktail with fresh watermelon - it was refreshing and hit the spot! My friend raved about the seafood pasta. The scallops were perfectly cooked and looked plump and amazing. Our sever was exceptional- I wished I had her name to include in this review. The restaurant has a cool urban feel!! There is a huge couch around a table in the lounge area. It is an inviting space that I’d like to visit sometime.
A really solid addition to the downtown/Roosevelt Row neighborhood offering a tightly edited menu that seems to deliver on every option, as well as an enjoyable bar space and a work/lounge area adjacent to the bar. An easy place to meet between downtown, midtown and uptown with results that don't disappoint.
The food in normally very good, perhaps what I ordered was the reason. I had the Chicken and Waffles. I honestly thought it was two pieces of fried fish sitting on top of the waffle when it was brought to the table. Chicken FINGERS and waffles would be a better description. The chicken fingers were fine, but not what I expected. The waffle was cold, the syrup was even colder. I wouldn't order it again. I will be back because I love your Salmon BLT but we were told we couldn't have it because you were only serving the items on the brunch menu. I've been to brunch before and it was served then not sure why we weren't able to get it on this day.
Drink menu was terrible. Waitress was trying to get a date with the manager on the floor more than she was interested in waitressing it seemed. My dessert (pudding) was a brick (not cold) they tried to fix it same issue again. Food was very forgettable, salmon dip was essentially tuna salad with salmon. The bartender was a better server than the waitress and was nice and conversational, valets were great, manager did try to make it better and gave us a discount because of the 2 awful desserts and the waitress charging us incorrectly, only reason they didn’t get one star.
