Very difficult to get the attention of wait staff. They were very busy. Perhaps understaffed.
Bouillabaisse was average but at $40, should have been amazing Overpriced even for nyc
The 1st waitress missed the appetizer of escargot order... So the entrees arrived... We insisted they should be held until the escargot was delivered. The escargot was good, with an interesting parsley take on the traditional garlic butter. My impression was the parsley was likely a dried or frozen insertion into the mix, good but not outstanding. Then the entrees were re-delivered... COLD 😢 chicken cutlet -- suppose to be freshly seared... BTW this was a $25 entree with a simple concoction of radichio-mesclun blend available from any mid-scale supermarket + a couple of goat cheese dabbles. SO, the cutlets went back with explanation to the server + then the new waiter.. and we waited... Maybe 5 minutes later, another (blond) woman who seemed to be managing things came over and asked for the explanation again, throwing the 1st waitress under the bus, stating, "Could you tell me again what happened? She (the 1st waitress) doesn't always explain things well." So then we waited for our overpriced, simple chicken cutlet salads, and I'm not so sure the cutlets were really new.. we ate and left...
A final note, we became keenly aware from the manager's chatter that they were preparing for a party of 60... Oh No! I wonder how they faired? 🤔
Mid-week, we booked (using OpenTable of course), two of us for dinner. It was a bit squishy (tables close to pack the max) but otherwise great. Pleasant 'French' ambiance; good service (a little noisy so a bit hard to hear), the options were quite varied and the quality of the dishes delivered was very high. Nice bottle of Chablis to go with it, and they have a decent wine list. We didn't try the starters, but there were some very tempting options there. Also no desserts on this occasion. We'll be back for more.
Outstanding! Imaginative cuisine, well prepared, good martinis, nice wine list all the ingredients for a pleasurable evening.
Wonderful place. Streak Frites was excellent and cooked perfectly. My family enjoyed their experience as well. I will be returning soon.
Friendly yet professional service
Great authentic food
Music not loud, that’s a very very very appreciated detail!!!
First time there Won’t be our last. Waitress was excellent. Made good suggestions - bottle of wine instead of 3 glasses for basically same price. French onion soup some of the best I’ve had. Branzino, excellent as well. Got very noisy and will try to sit outside next time.
Great find for dining with friends.
Great food and excellent service. They did not rush us out, which was nice.
As close to Paris as you can get in NY. A wonderful bistro in the neighborhood with very friendly service.
This is a perfect local spot with all you're looking for in a brasserie. Sometimes these places can be snobby, but all the staff was lovely. Salad to start vert good and my husband's dover sole(tuesday night special) was delicious. Unfortunately, I ordered a cheeseburger medium and instead of that, it was charred on the outside and very rare inside. Burgers are a staple of a brasserie so they should be able to get this right. But the waitress was very nice.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The dessert was yummy.
Dishes for which worth dining out, cheerful ambiance and service, a happy and alive venue well located. Would definitely and planning to return often and host an event at Match 65. Perfect coq au vin, tasty trout amandine, over the top Fois (my wife says). Sweet corn ravioli so beautiful and delicious
Excellent food, fair service, accommodating hostess.
Lovely neighborhood spot with wonderful food, service and ambience.
Nice find. I'll be going back. Excellent service.
Consistently good food, good service, good ambiance: A++
Excellent as (it appears to us so far) always.
No matter for how many years I dine out, or how many times, that won’t make me an expert. (This exercise sometimes reminds me of “modern” education, where the students grade the teachers.) But to this non-expert, on this visit, the hamburger and filet mignon (special), each of which my wife and I shared, were as a good as it gets. Period.
One cautionary note: The construction and layout are such that things can get noisy when its full, and uncomfortable when it is hot. Worth thinking twice before dining there on an especially torrid day.
Good food but way too expensive for what it was.
I love this place. It’s truly a neighborhood gem. It’s a fun place to have lunch or dinner, and the food is absolutely delicious! The roasted Amish chicken is the best chicken in NYC! The burger - WOW!
Pros: The menu at Match is extensive and has a little something for everyone. We had the ravioli and salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly medium with a crispy outside. The ravioli was flavorful and moist. I would recommend either dish. The wine list has both a good choice of reds and whites at reasonable prices and pour sizes.
Cons: the noise level is borderline unacceptable despite no loud music or large parties. At times it was hard to hear the person next to me or across from me. Also, the server routinely attempted to speed us along, would interrupt us mid-sentence to see if we were ready to order or wanted something else and would hover over the table if she felt we should have been farther along with dinner. It made the otherwise excellent meal feel rushed and forced.
Overall the food is well planned, plated, and cooked. The wine is good and reasonable. Service and noise level are to be desired. I would consider trying again based on the quality of the food.
Sat outside and really enjoyed the lovely evening, setting and food. Tables, however very close together so not good for intimate dining. Seemed like very authentic cafe that could have been in Paris, except service less surly and quite personable. Highly recommend!
Not bad. Not 4+ stars
Great lunch at the bar; delicious food and staff was fast and friendly
Business lunch for 2 persons. The staff jammed into a tiny corner table next to two noisy children. More crowded than cozy. Food and service was fairly reasonable but nothing to get excited about.
Wish the manager had not allowed drunk and obnoxious friends of his to continue to drink at the bar and disturb our dinner. A real shame and terrible hospitality on his part. The lovely server we had saved the day.
Outstanding! Transformed me back to Paris. Authentic.
Always a reliable choice with high quality food and nice atmosphere
Nice atmosphere. Very Parisian. Food generally good. Over priced wines by the bottle and a total rip off by the glass. Minuscule pours.
Match 65 is always a good idea. Get-together with friends this evening, sharing tasty Mediterranean food. We were sitting outside where the attentive staff made sure the awning covered us when a sudden summer rainstorm started. The food and service is consistently good here. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and we have never left hungry or disappointed. We'll be back soon!
lovely as always- a regular lunch stop when in NYC
Steak inferior for the price. Resto-Week $42+$15 didn't amount to a decent steak
My neighbors' hamburger looked better
Everything was quite wonderful but the noise level which made hearing almost impossible, and I was wearing hearing aids. Taking them off was worse.
Everything was wonderful as usual. My boyfriend and I had such a great time. Authentic French food and best one we’ve ever had in the city!
This was my first meal at this restaurant after years of strolling by and being curious. I was delighted by the courteous and warm greeting. Attentive service continued throughout the meal by all the wait staff. It was very busy. The menu is extensive, the (French) food is excellent and well-prepared. All in all, such a good experience that I’m looking forward to many more visits.
Perfect for pre-Park Avenue Armory event dinner. Price commensurate with neighborhood so do keep that in mind (if this restaurant were up- or down-town, the prices would be noticeably less). Food is delicious. Tables are crowded together as all Parisian brasserie's are, but the service is good and charming which mitigates it.
For a New York restaurant during the summer it to have air conditioning is ridiculous
I will not return
Second time two weeks later confirms first impression: A rare really good, modest bistro (they call a brasserie) on the upper east side. Take something "simple": grilled salmon filet. Fun to guess how many restaurants within say half a mile serve a similar dish. Yet I'd wager Match's is more than a match for nearly all of them. Firm, tasting like salmon without a hint of "fishy," and a faint, very pleasing aroma of the grill. Also pate; Nutella crepe, wine, Calvados. I would use more superlatives, but you'd push the prices up and availability of a reservation down.
Great ambiance. For $42, a boulliabaisse should have had more than mussels, calamari, clams and two shrimp (no fish AT ALL!). And the wait staff forgot to put our order in - so we waited longer than usual...
This restaurant is over-priced.
Very chic and very French with a good selection of Bistro food.
Worth a trip.
