Matador is a gem in the over priced restaurant scene of downtown S.F.. The food is reminiscent of Mexico City, so although there are many standard dishes such a burritos and tacos, the flavors are unique and high end. Think gourmet Mexican food, but without the high price tag. The cocktails were colorful, tasty, and different than standard margaritas.
Our hostess seated us right away although we were early for our reservation, and our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing. This is our new "go to" when downtown!
Good food.. good service.
The noise level was beyond incredible. If you are over 25 think again about eating here.
Service was great, but the food was on the cheap side. The nachos had the cheese sauce versus real cheese. Guac was watered down. Wouldn’t go back.
The food is very good. We had the guacamole and chips and the esquite for appetizers. Both were excellent. I had the three tacos and my son had the chicken quesadilla with chicken mole. Both the tacos and quesadilla were good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had reservations for outside seating, but they were able to accommodate us with an inside table. I asked for a bloody Maria to be made with a smoky mezcal instead of tequila - it was delicious, I wish I had asked which mezcal they used - Would recommend.
Best shrimp quesadilla ever!!!
Was no point in setting a reservation when you were seated 30 minutes later. There was no acknowledgement by the staff of those waiting in line unless you were able to get the staff's attention to let them know you were waiting. Customer service was very poor.
Really great dinner, very kind and great service. Brought us a few items on the house, which were delicious. Good drinks, and tacos were on point. Will definitely go back
The staff are so friendly and the food and drinks were divine.
Good food. Service was inattentive and frustratingly slow despite the establishment being almost completely empty on a weekday afternoon.
Food came cold so they took it back and heated it. Great flavor. REALLY nice staff. Place can be quite loud (one night there was a yapping dog, another there were five adults aged 30-50 behaving badly at the bar, staff should have sent them on their way...drinking games, Really shrieking laughing and howling, sudden outbursts that totally startled myself and others. But, again, the staff are ALL really nice.
Great hosts. Tacos and margaritas were excellent!
Super food and attention to detail. The mezcal drinks are perfectly balanced. Food was exactly what we needed.
The owner must be really cheap because they were so short staffed/ the people working were awesome but there was no way just a handful could serve an entire restaurant. There was a long wait fir a table and they did not honor anyones open table reservation.
Terribly mismanaged. Half the food and drinks didn’t arrive. Enchiladas came swimming in the sauce. We told the staff we are not paying for this meal.
This was truly a nightmare... after making a reservation and waiting for over 15 minutes no one even greeted us ...while we were trying to be seated multiple diners complained for not having received their food having been seated or even gotten drinks...
I appreciate the challenges of the pandemic but if you’re going accept except reservations and serve customers but not be able to give them service whatsoever there’s some thing missing in the quotation... bitterly disappointed in what was an awful experience
It was fine - nothing fabulous
One of our servers was very pleasant, but they got our order wrong and the margaritas were shockingly sweet. :/ Nachos were tasty, though, and the outside dining pace was cool.
Very good food at a reasonable price great place for lunch
We stayed about a block from the restaurant so it was easy to find. The tacos were delicious! Small but very tasty !
I would recommend and would return.
The smell from the restroom floats through the restaurant a bit, but otherwise it’s great!
A special treat. As we had not eaten here before, we had no previous experience. We were so surprised at the quality of the food, can’t wait to come back. The hibiscus margarita was the bomb
Food was delicious and staff knowledgeable and attentive. Plan to visit again!
Loved the food! Server was nice and trying really hard but had too many tables he was dealing with. Helpers from the kitchen were awesome. Enjoyed it though and way overate and will come back!!
We found this place from Dine About Town in San Francisco. The restaurant indoors was open and we were the only ones in there. Majority of all patrons wanted to sit outside. The food was prepared wonderfully and the service was excellent. The variety of sauces for our chips was delicious. The enchiladas was very filling but I made room for dessert. I would come back again to try the other dishes.
The quesabirria was incredible. Such friendly staff and a great outdoor seating park-let. Can’t wait to bring friends for cocktails.
Cocktails and tacos were excellent! Loved the ambiance and the staff were very kind and attentive.
It was cold in there !
Very cool food for a great price
