Very expensive but in many ways it is good but in many others it is a fail. Bearing in mind that this is a classy place with most amenities it falls short in many aspects: the bar has TV's in it (no classy bar has a tv), the tables in the bar were all reserved so there was no place to sit for a cocktail before the meal. There is no consideration to noise in is design or layout so even the quietest area can hear the substantial amplitude of the live music. This obviously makes people talk louder until the whole restaurant is obnoxious with shouting. It seemed that most clients were in parties greater than 2 people so it, therefore, assumes that people wish to converse but that is not possible except to the person whose ear has to be next to your mouth. I have never seen this restaurant not busy so from a business standpoint it must be a success but for an evening meal in relative peace, this is not the place.
Steaks are excellent, cocktails are exceedingly good (BTW $22 for a Manhattan). The Seafood tower was a disappointment as the AK King crab legs were salty and mushy. Quantities are plentiful and just about everything is cooked with butter, which added to the saturated fat of the steaks, is probably good for your next heart attack. As mentioned before, all of the steaks are very impressive as are numerous other food items. You could take home the unused portion of the meal to feed most other townships so the excessive sized portions are just an invitation to eat too much.
Always solid service and solid food, and great cocktails.
Great birthday celebration! No better steakhouse.
Everyone made my husband’sbirthday a night to remember.
Our server, Michael, was absolutely fantastic. Great experience!
I’ll start off by saying that the food and ambience was amazing! Hands down best steakhouse I’ve visited. However, the hostess and our serve were a little rude but we didn’t let that get in the way of enjoying our special evening.
Excellent as always. Service personnel are always on top of their service delivery.
The best and most expensive place in town.
Food was absolutely incredible and the price was very fair. Our waiter was outstanding! Such a fun and upbeat personality..he really made our evening special!!
The food here is pricey but wonderful as always. I can’t say enough about the delicious food we had. But the service was not what it usually is. The hostesses and bar staff weren’t incredibly friendly, our table wasn’t ready at reservation time and it was really difficult to get a drink at the bar. And we sat in the back room. The fireplace is gorgeous but walking through the kitchen is awkward and it’s far too noisy and crowded in that room when it’s full. Additionally, we had a dirty napkin on our table, and multiple servers before things settled.
They tried to charge me $40 more for a bottle of champagne. They were barely apologetic for the error. Seem to be all about the tables they can make the most cash. 2 patrons vs. 4+...food is fabulous though.
All was great, we celebrated our anniversary as well as my wife's birthday. We had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table, the bar area seemed like a lot of fun, so we eat there instead. I gave the food 4 stars, of course the steak was amazing. I was surprised at the size of the oysters(a little too small for the price) and the beefsteak and onion salad was not what I expected. Will go back.
Awesome as always
Overall a disappointing experience. I had a fruit fly in my drink and it was not comped! The salad was soggy and the rack of lamb not flavorful. However, the onion soup was delicious and so were the tuna and the scallop appetizers.
The New York stake and petit fillet and warmed spinach salad were outstanding; however, the appetizer, mussels and the side dishes- sweet fry potatoes were mediocre. We ordered a Mastro’s Manhattan and a Mojito cocktails. The Manhattan which was good; however, the only resemblance to mojito was the mint, otherwise there was barely any run or liquor. We also ordered a 3-ounce glass of Porto, Fonseca; however, the waiter brought a glass that clearly had less than 2-ounces of Porto. Finally, the waiter that attended our table was attentive and professional; however, there was a considerable delay from the time we finished the appetizers and when the entrees were brought to the table.
Went for my sons birthday. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, scallops, chopped salad, brussel spout with pork belly, porterhouses, filet and my friend son got fish. Everything was cooked to perfection and the Birthday cake ... yummy!
Mastros has never let us down. Also the best tasting steaks and sides. Service is great. Great for special occasions or for bar scene.
One word- awesome!!!
Mastro's is one of our favorite restaurants. The food and service are always outstanding. Steaks and chops are by far the best. We went early evening on a Sunday and it was very quiet compared to Fridays and Saturdays when the food and service are great as always, but it can be a bit noisy. Highly recommend!
Always a fabulous experience at Mastro's in Thousand Oaks, especially when celebrating a special occasion! Incredible food, great ambiance, great service.
Restaurant ran out of Rack of Lamb on Thanksgiving - disappointing as we were looking forward to having the lamb. Service was average as I constantly had to ask for things and had to pour our wine.
Excellent service. Chris was great. Everything was well prepared. Steak a perfect medium rare. Lots of food. We took home several future meals. Will be back.
Slow service but overall great experience.
Absolutely fabulous restaurant as long as you have your accountant's permission to go. Worth the expense.
Excellent food and service.
Service was poor. Difficult to get someone to come by the table or notice us. Sweet potato and creamed spinach was just like you get at a cheap restaurant. Salad was ok but nothing special. The steak was great, but that’s all. When asking questions of the waiter, I felt like I was a bother to him. Definitely not worth the price.
My favorite place
Always perfection! Thanks for a great bday celebration for our daughter! Thanks Erin for the top notch service as it was greatly appreciated!
18th birthday party. Jean Paul did a fantastic job.
JP and Michael are great, as usual!
We had a wonderful evening celebrating our anniversary dinner! Everything was perfect!
Overall, my whole family's experience was great celebrating my 12 yr. old son's birthday last Tuesday, Nov. 6. We look forward celebrating another occasion there.
Disappointing! Haven’t been in years and I feel things have gone south. Porterhouse was tough and no seasoning, fries and onion rings undercooked, salads bland, steak knives dull, layer cake tasted likie it was soaked in simple syrup. Service was good after I found a buss boy to get a hostess to seat us after waiting 5 minutes with no acknowledgement. Won’t be returning to this location. Stars are for service and atmosphere not food.
Birthday dinner with outstanding service and great food!
As always everything was perfect! The apps (Sushi & Crab) and steaks (bone filets & ribeyes) + sides were awesome . Service also great.
Friday night 6pm out of halibut, porterhouse tough @ a cost of $120ish. Chair I first sat in was wobbly...waiter at next station said it was floor. I immediately took my own action, grabbed chair from next table and exchanged the bad one. Mr. Do-nothing smiled. Had to ask multiply times for ice tea.
Over rated restaurant for food and service! This is not our first bad experience there.
Had a great time. The food was excellent, service excellent, never rushed, but always attentive.
Amazing place. Great food, music, drinks and the service is top notch. My friends and I go for drinks or dinner at least twice a month. The butter cake is also the best !!
Was upset that they were out of Pumpkin butter cake. Otherwise, great meal as usual.
So this was a special dinner for my husband and I,we were celebrating my 50th Birthday and we left unimpressed.
Despite having a reservation for 7.30pm we were made to wait 20 minutes. Our server was nice but failed to bring us bread until our 3rd time asking. We enjoyed our steaks but the sides,Garlic mashed potatoes which had no garlic flavor and wild mushrooms with truffle butter which had no hint of truffle, disappointing.
I ordered a bottle of cab.sav. Which was served freezing cold like it had just been pulled from the fridge.
Our server asked if we were celebrating anything and of course we said yes my 50th we received no recognition of that fact despite seeing lots of other tables receiving dessert with a birthday candle.
We left after spending very close to $300 for the two of us,very disappointed
