Mastro's Steakhouse - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
The service here has declined each time I've been in and I won't come back. I ordered Foie Gras and asked for a sauterne or late harvest Riesling. The waiter barely understood English and came back with a red wine. When asked, he said they had no sweet white's by the glass. When he brought the desert menu, there were at least 4 very good pairing wines. This Mastros location isn't even close to the others I've frequently dined at and enjoy. Avoid it at all cost!
Beyond that, I put in a request for a birthday and they did nothing. That and the noise level was almost too much to hear each other.
Mastros made it a lovely evening for our get together. Great seats in the bar area booths listening to Live music cover songs. Wedge salad, bone-in ribeye Steak, scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach all served wonderfully by the very attentive staff. Many attendants making sure not one thing was left out.
Mastro's still stands out as one of the top steakhouses anywhere. I had the bone-in rib eye and it was just about perfect. Cooked exactly right and the quality couldn't have been better. We also had the onion rings and tuna tartar to start--both excellent. If they were to step up their cocktail game just a bit, the place would be unbeatable.
When the restaurant called to confirm I mentioned that we had an infant in a car seat and would that be a problem. The hostess told me not at all. We were shuffled around the whole restaurant carrying the baby from table to table and finally put at a table next to the loudest, most obnoxious group. We literally couldn’t hear each other speak because they were so rude and loud. The baby never made a peep but if she had no one would have heard her over the rowdiness of the next table. Bread and butter was thrown on the table. Appetizers took more than 1/2 hour to arrive. We sat for another 1/2 hour to have our main course arrive before the appetizer dishes were removed.
It was the worst experience and service for the price we paid and definitely not worth it. I have been to this Mastro’s before and several others and will not go back.
My husband and I returned to Mastro's the evening before New Year's Eve, after having a wonderful dining experience about a year ago. Our reservation was for the piano lounge, which we enjoyed. Our waitress was nice but we didn't get the excellent service we previously experienced. Ordered the oysters Rockefeller appetizer, which was not prepared well - too much chewy spinich and salt. My husband's halibut was dry (which our waitress kindly did not charge us for since he didn't eat it), but my filet mignon was very good. We ordered two sides to share, asparagus and a baked potato, which were barely lukewarm by the time they were brought to our table. It was busy that night, so maybe that's the explanation for the disappointing experience, but when you are willing to pay their exclusive prices, everything should be very good. I don't know if we'll return, but if we do, we'll probably opt for drinks at the piano lounge bar before dining somewhere else.
Disappointing... We love Mastro’s in Newport and thought it would be a “consistent” experience for our 25th Anniversary. The whole experience was pretty much a bust. First we were seated at a lousy table. Small, cramped and an awkward picture taking up space. Switched to a better table. Dirty napkins left behind... Server poured water all over my menu... Didn’t even notice! So “not Mastro’s!” We had the seafood tower, one of our favorites. Some of it was good. It ALL should have been good. No excuse for mushy snow crab or bad oysters. Needless to say, horrible after effects throughout the night :/ They need a much better way to manage the overcrowded hallways and lobby. Clean bathrooms would also be a plus....... Never going back.
Came to celebrate the 81st birthday of my partner's mother and the 60th anniversary of his parents. The evening couldn't have been better. From thw moment we checked in to thw time we paid the check, every detail of our meal was executed to perfection. The staff was courteous, efficient and attentive to our needs. The food was delicious with the steaks being cooked perfectly. At the end of the meal, a complimentary celebration cake was provided which ended our visit in a stellar manner. Recommend this restaurant very highly.
Food was very good as was service by Cliff. Great atmosphere but the vocal group on Christmas night was too darn loud in addition to the full restaurant. People were talking so loud to talk over the group. They were good but over powered the overall restaurant.
Terrible service. Had to send steak back, ordered medium and it came back rare( cold in the middle). Sent back and was returned still rare. Ate it anyway. When you pay this much for an experience you expect the waiter to be knowledgeable regarding the menu and the service to be impeccable. Would expect a call from management regarding our experience.
We have made dining at Mastro's a Christmas Eve tradition as well as a special place to dine with family and friends. We used to have a home in LA so frequented the Beverly Hills and Malibu Mastro's. Those 2 places have exceptionally beautiful venues. Since we recently bought a home in La Quinta, this ws our first venture into Mastro's here. Our family was very disappointed in the ambiance. Actually, there was none. We felt like we were dining in a hall. The steaks were delicious. My French Onion soup was cold and the salads were okay. The sides were good but what really took away from the experience was that the servers passing them out to us smelled terrible. For a dinner for 5 that was almost $1,000.00, we wil not unfortunately be returning to this Mastro's.
Christmas Eve and we wanted to enjoy the music and food at Mastro’s. Music was great but ended early. Tomatoes in the tomato onion salad had huge hard centers and were hard. We specifically said if they were not ripe we did not want that salad but were assured they would be. Then we ordered a New York strip steak and it was so fat and was full of tendons that it was gross. I have always loved this place but the quality of food has gone way down.
Great service waiter was excellent. Food was great, music by bar area, good music, noise level is loud but was great for us. We didn’t have to whisper to talk. Would totally go back. Lobster Mac n cheese was awesome. Ribeye was cooked good and great taste. Strawberry lemonade is a must try.
We sat in the lounge area to enjoy the live band that was performing that night. All in all, it was a great experience and the food was spectacular.
I had the t-bone steak (medium) and it had just the perfect amount of char to it. Steaks are brought out on 400 degree plates so they continue to sizzle and cook slightly as you eat.
I do think that drinks were expensive ($17-$28) for cocktails but they were of great quality and the bar has an impressive selection of liquor.
Excellent restaurant! I have been to this particular location several times . However this last visit we had reservation at 7;45 through open table but we were not seated til 20 minutes later. Then we had to wait for someone to get our drinks . Also the server never introduce herself so we were not sure who she was. Finally the live music wa not entertaining compared to the previous times I have visited this place . I have been here to Mastro’s just last month .
