Mastro's Steakhouse - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
As always a great meal ! But our waitress however was unacceptable and aggressive! She saw my friend was crying and still interrupted us to tell us the specials for the evening! I had to put my hand up for her to get a clue! Ms Guatemala Anne should be trained to listen.
The restaurant has always been a favorite special occasion place for us. Sadly —for the first time — we ran into the Godzilla of waitresses. Extremely abrupt on imposing herself on our table and repeatedly forcibly interrupting our conversation. On serving our drinks our friend dining with us very nicely pointed out to the server that she was interrupting us. Without hesitation the server said she could get someone else to serve us, slammed down our friend’s drink and stormed off. More bemused than mad, we asked another server to see a manager. When that person came, she immediately said that the server had already talked to her and the conflict was that we were not interested in hearing about the specials. We told her that there had been no conversation with the server before she blew up and the manager kept defending the server. The manager did offer to comp an appetizer which we declined. We have owned a restaurant as well as our friend. We know about server’s “bad days” and how sometimes things just happen. However, the combination of a server and then a manager refusing to even pretend to own a problem with a customer is not acceptable, especially at a high priced fine dining restaurant. We won’t be back.
I have dined at several Mastro’s locations. I’ve been to the Palm Desert location a few times and I must say I was disappointed this time. Our meal did not live up to Mastro’s standards and I hope their quality and service is not suffering due to over-expansion. Our steak and fish had to be recooked because they weren’t cooked the way we had requested. My steak cut was bad and it was replaced. A small gesture of a discount as a token of apology wasn’t even extended. The management needs to be a lot more responsive to its core customers.
This was our 1st visit to Mastro's. The menu was extensive, and everything we tried was great. Not inexpensive, but everything was first rate. Excellent service, excellent presentation. The staff treats every guest like a VIP. The Beef Carpaccio had a great presentation and it was wonderful. Oysters were very good as well. We also had the Rib eye, the Salmon and Sea Bass. All excellent. The sides we tried were Asparagus, Gorgonzola Mac n Cheese and Garlic Mashed potatoes. Plenty for everyone to share, the waiters synchronize the serving of the sides with the arrival of your meal, and it was really fun to try everything. The wine list is extensive and they have something for everyone. The waiters don't rush you, and anticipate every need. I would recommend this for anyone, but don't go in trying to budget yourself. Just enjoy the top notch service - order what you like, enjoy the great food.
It is a little noisy, but not too much, and if that is going to bother you, I am sure there are some cozy corners where they can seat you. Really no complaints except I was too full for dessert. :)
Pleasant welcome, good professional service, trendy environment. Food, all steaks for our party, were done according to order. Meat very tender with good flavour. Sides of scalloped potatoes and mushrooms were tasty and ample for the three of us. One would class the meal as pricey but not out of line for a top level steak house. Deserts were really good.
We have purchased a home in Palm Desert and Mastro’s has welcomed us every time we go there. The food is over the top great and service wonderful. We live in LA and have frequented the Beverly Hills Mastro’s since it’s opening. So nice to have our favorite steak house again in Palm Desert. They are wonderful there!
It was our anniversary and they made us feel special from the moment we arrived. We ordered the rib eye chop, captains cut and it was fabulous. The sides were a little too salty and when I mentioned it, the server immediately too it off our check. The service was amazing. We will be back.
We were greeted at the door and acknowledged for our Anniversary, our reason for dinner. The waitress was very attentive, and the service was great. She explained what was on the menu, and what the specials were. She also explained that the side dishes were rather large so two people could easily share them. Our busser kept our water glasses full, and was keen to any of our needs. The food was excellent and satisfied our expectations. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants a truly wonderful meal, or if you are celebrating any special occasion.
Mastro’s was good, but way overpriced. At that price point we should have had perfection, instead we both were served very undercooked steaks and over cooked asparagus. It was good to try and if we didn’t know how much everything was we would have said, hmm that was good food. But when you spend $30+ on shrimp cocktail (4 pieces) it’s a little much. My 6 oz. steak was $45, which can be ok but it should be the best you ever had, sadly it was not, I even added salt and pepper after it was recooked to get to Medium. I will say the Butter cake for dessert was incredible :). It was fun to try but I’d rather go to Ruth’s Chris, or the local high end steakhouse- LGs. Both have even better food and service, still pricey but not completely overboard .
HORRIBLE .....SIMPLY HORRIBLE ....!!
Steak was alright but who cares?
A noisy ... slick "clip joint". You just knew the customer was the next "mark" ...
COULDN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF THE PLACE ...!!

Steaks always very good: served sizzling hot! Shrimp cocktail very good too. Try the pretzel bread for sure. Best martini -- too big to finish unless some else can drive you home. With all the mediocre steakhouses in Palm Springs area -- Mastros stands out. I give it high marks.
We frequent Mastro's for their amazing food. This specific visit was for our anniversary. We enjoyed the Bone-in Ribeye cooked perfectly medium-rare and the Chilean Sea bass cooked medium, lobster mashed potatoes, mushrooms and the signature butter cake.
It was a Saturday evening so it was busy and there was live music in the bar. Talking was a bit difficult but once the food gets there you won't care.
The service is impeccable. You don't wait for drink refills and they are attentive and share the responsibility of caring for patrons, not just one waiter waits on you.
We'll keep going as long as we can. It's our favorite restaurant.
Reservation was booked well in advance. Girls at check in are screening customers to see who should sit way in some hidden back room or in the bar area. Obviously if you’re not some young hot person you don’t get to sit in the bar area. I monitored the open tables in the bar area and they of course remained open. Oh well, sorry Mastro’s PS, I’ve spent a lot of money there but will need to go to another location that does not discriminate.
