Mastro's Steakhouse - New York City
The place was very loud but had a good vibe with the live piano player and singer. I had been looking forward to coming but sadly was extremely disappointed. I ordered the wagu tomahawk ribeye medium rare ($115) and ordered an expensive wine to pair. The steak was served well done and ruined. The manager come over and apologized and took it off the bill, but the dinner and while experience was ruined. I am very upset because I don’t think it is worth going back. Don’t overpay for mediocre steak, go to Del Friscos instead.
My favorite steakhouse in the world!
Couple of misses that make the experience not up to the Mastro’s standard. 1) Dinner plates didn’t come out hot (just normal room temp) 2) One person ordered a cosmo and enjoys the dry ice smoke experience (dry ice was forgotten) 3) Ordered 2 desserts and didn’t receive the Mastro’s side of whip cream.
Service was kind but inattentive on simple things like refilling water glasses, clearing the food off the table and cleaning the table crumbs.
Still enjoyable and will be back soon and hope for the Mastro’s standards will be back as well.
THE FOOD, SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE WAS DELIGHTFUL!
Had amazing birthday dinner thanks again will definitely recommend will came back for future visits
Loved the food. The steak cut like butter. We like trying out restaurants when we go into the city. Our server, Bryce, very attentive to detail and made sure that our drinks never went dry.
Went for our 1 year anniversary. We poorly chose to drive in. Everything was blocked off; took us an hour and a half to get into the city, from Astoria (3miles). We were an hour late for our reservation. The front staff was amazing, we were put back in the rotation and seated within 10 minutes. Mastro’s never disappoints. Thank you!
Very nice restaurant quite big and quite busy especially during Friday and Saturday night. Despite the reservation, We had to wait approximately 45 minutes before we were seated. Anyway the food was very tasty and the service was good and quick. Nice ambience with live music.
Do not understand how you get seated 30 minutes after your reservation. For some reason this happens all the time at this restaurant. Not sure what the issue is here, but it happens all the time. This will probably be the last time we eat here during the holiday season.
The food and service was amazing, as usually at Mastros. The one negative this trip was that we had a 6:45 reservation and did not get seated until 7:30. They did pass out champagne while people waited, which was nice though. I absolutely love Mastros and would wait a long time just to get a piece of that butter cake😋
The food was incredible!
My steak was over cooked even thought I asked medium well, the waiter cut my rib eye in two when I asked for the chef cut rib eye. I rather Wolfgang’s
Excellent dinner. Though a beautiful filet on a white dish with no garnish wasn’t great. Presentation in food being served us is important even some parsley:)
Everything was excellent! Our servers Joe and Theo were the BEST!
the food was amazing but the noise level was ridiculous. I had to ask the server multiple times to repeat himself during the encounter. I don’t mind music but it needs to be played at a level that allows for conversation without yelling!
We had a wonderful dinner and will definitely return!!
The steak was great but the fries cold and overcooked. Initially service was good when taking orders and very friendly but they were incredibly slow to clear table or ask if we wanted more drinks.
Over all the meal was good but incredibly over priced for what we got
Overall very good experience enjoyed it it was my birthday and they had wonderful music great service food was amazing as always drinks for fabulous really enjoy the evening thank you
I loved it I would go again.. I just wish they would have more lighting it’s very vary Dark
As always delicious
It was amazing, we got there a bit early for our reso. But they still seated us right away. The music was live and amazing. I’m currently pregnant but wanted to have a fun drink to celebrate and they made a delicious mock tail for me. They were so accommodating. I also have a gluten allergy and they were able to work around that. Overall this was just a delightful experience. We hope to go back every time we are in the city.
We had a great experience here. My sister-in-law and her husband needed to catch the flight after the dinner and we asked for a super fast service. It was super fast and at the same time we had enough time to enjoy the food. Every dish was cooked to perfection and every person who served us was super nice. New York has plenty of steak houses. Mastro’s is definitely one of the top ones. We will definitely come back here.
Amazing food and great ambiance, perfect for a date night. Overall a perfect night. The steaks were on point and hit all the right spots :) and of course the infamous butter cake was cherry on top. I have been to the location in DC and Ft Lauderdale, this one has to top them! Thank you for such an incredible night!
Food and Service are excellent. All in our party enjoyed our choices - from appetizers to dessert. The tuna tartare is great, among the best concepts I've had when ordering tuna tartare. The tomahawk steak and chateaubriand melt in your mouth. Our only dissatisfaction came from the ambiance. The music was loud, the restaurant too dark. A big open room like the Mastro's in NY needs some sort of baffling on the ceiling to absorb the noise. The Mastro's in Phoenix has smaller dining areas and is not as noisy or dark. In NY we needed flashlights to read the menus. It wasn't just us - I noticed other tables doing the same. Other than the dark and too loud, it's a fantastic place and well worth the price.
Amazing food, excellent service, exquisite dining experience
Worst experience ever at a restaurant. Extremely rude host and manager.
Mastros is a fav of ours. This is how we celebrated Thanksgiving this year. Third year as this is a new tradition for our family.
We love the venue and the music was wonderful ! Food is consistently delicious. No one and I mean no one offers Shrimp Cocktail like Mastro’s. They are cold, firm and sweet... the best !
We had 2 Porterhouse Steaks that we’re cooked to perfection. A favorite is the Gorgonzola Mac n Cheese... pretzel bread too.
They do a great job! Fantastic Dining experiences time after time!
I’ve dined at this location several times, but after my last dining experience I don’t think I’ll be back. Server had a total of 5 tables and was extremely slow. Waited about 20 mins to receive menus and water. Waited about another 20 mins to order food. Once the entrees arrived we had been sitting for approximately an hour. I asked for a medium rare steak with a lobster tail. I received a very well done steak and an over cooked lobster tail. The asparagus was under cooked - garlic mash was really regular mash - Mac and cheese was lackluster. Overall the experience was not what I expected, nor was it how I wanted to spend my Thanksgiving! Thumbs down
Phenomenal food and service. Entertainment for the evening was also an enjoyable accompaniment to our dinner. Would highly recommend. Bone in Filet, Chilean sea bass excellent.
We were on vacation in New York and celebrated our last night with dinner at Mastro’s. Everything was amazing, food was on point, service was excellent, there was a live band that was really good, and the restaurant was beautiful. Our dinner was the perfect way to end a great time in NYC!
I say no but in fairness to the restaurant I didn’t address my concerns at the time which in hindsight I should have. The service was ok, we were seated behind a pillar so not the most visible. We both ordered filet mignon which was delicious. We ordered fries, Brussel sprouts and sautéed broccoli as sides. All of them were WAY too salty. I’m sure if we had said something they would have done something about it but we didn’t realize it until we were halfway through and wouldn’t have wanted it replaced regardless. It’s not a classic steakhouse experience but not a bad one either. I normally do speak up when I have issues but for whatever reason didn’t this time and as a result had a $300 dinner that ended up being just “ok”. I’ve been to Mastro’s in Houston and have had a much better experience.
So loud you’ll have to yell at a date but so amazing. Excellent butter cake, large portions, great presentation. Love the steak and lobster bisque.
Love the music combined with great food. We always come here for a family dinner our first night in the city!
The food and experience was just ok for the prices paid. Steak was overcooked. We were pouring our own water at times. It certainly wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. We dined before live music started and the music playing didn’t match what should have been a more upscale experience.
We have dined at the Vegas and CA properties many times and have always had an amazing experience. We flew in from LA to celebrate my daughter’s 20th birthday. She had never been. She wanted to stay in her neighborhood (NYU) but we convinced her that Mastro’s is world class. However we did not have that experience. We were seated by the door adjacent to the kitchen, probably because we had our nine year old son with us. The table was horrible. The door opening and closing was a massive distraction and the staff asked my son and wife to move their chairs in multiple times, so they wouldn’t be in the way. We ordered the seafood tower, the triple decker version with lobsters. However, they brought out “a” tower and as we were going to dig in - they explained they gave us the wrong tower and removed it with no explanation... until 5 mins later another tower came out. We received one “kit” of horse radish and ketchup. This was not enough for five people, so we asked for a second horse radish and ketchup - multiple times - and we never got it. The pianist and guitarist/vocals were great, but way too loud. We couldn’t hear each other the entire night. We found ourselves having to yell. Not an optimal setting to celebrate a birthday. My wife’s filet was one of the worst cuts we’ve ever seen and we had to send it back. Full of fat. The waiters refilled our sparkling water glasses with tap twice. Our baked potatoes were cold. The list goes on. Honestly, I never provide bad or good feedback. However, The experience was that bad.
Way too noisy. Uneven service. Meat came just on a plate, no presentation so to speak. Potato dropped onto plates five minutes later. Asked for our asparagus. Had to ask three times for more butter, finally came and potatoes were cold. Too much money for mediocre experience.
Best food I have
Thank you, Mark was & the butter cake amazing!!!
