Mastro's Steakhouse - Houston
Sunday : 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Great food, but way too loud. Also the dining room was too dark.
Great scenery, good food and service!
Wonderful experience! Drinks were perfectly crafted, the service was attentive without being intrusive, the ambiance was fantastic. I’ll definitely return!
This was my final visit to Mastro's. The noise level is so high that you cannot hear your dinner companions. The dining room is part of a very noisy bar, there is no separation between the two. The tables are crowded together and service was very slow. My head still hurts from the experience. I cannot recommend Mastro's for dining....bar scene?...Sure
the dining rooms area is so dark you cannot see in front of you. The middle area which is partly outside is alternately cold and hot and VERY loud. Very expensive, not comfortable, would not go there again.
Overall not very impressed, felt very Vegas like and the main dinning room was so dark that it was very difficult to see, had to use our phones the entire time to see the menus. Felt the service for the price could have been more attentive and the food was also just average with the pork chop being the worst of the three entrees, very dry and lacking in flavor. Would search out other options in the future.
great Father's Day celebration. beautiful restaurant, over the top
Great service and food.
The food was great but felt service was lacking compared to other restaurants in same price range.
We had a lovely dinner celebrating our engagement and Father’s Day!! Aaron was our fantastic waiter who paid attention to every detail throughout our meal. He was very knowledgeable and polite. We started with the chilled Alaskan King Crab Legs and warm spinach salad with Nueske’s bacon. For our main courses, we ordered bone-in filet, Ora King salmon filet, King Crab stuffed mushrooms, sautéed Brussels sprouts, steamed asparagus and lobster mashed potatoes. Everything was phenomenal and cooked perfectly! I won’t even get into the amazing French wines we had...a bit young, but altogether wonderful! Unfortunately, I didn’t catch our wonderful sommelier’s name since my Dad was talking to her. She definitely knows her wines. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy another fabulously delicious meal!!! 😄
We enjoyed our first visit here for a fine dinner on Father’s Day with excellent martinis and fantastic steaks, though our sides and dessert were less special and also pricey. Steaks were expertly cooked as we requested. Our table was located near the outdoor water wall, which provided a lovely view but somewhat loud background sound, which made conversation slightly difficult. We enjoyed the musicians opposite the bar—very talented.
This place is great for special occasions, especially if you want to be surrounded by opulence, like the luxury hotel and car dealers nearby. Many menu items are fairly priced but some are overpriced for the ordinary dish you get (sugar peas side and key lime pie dessert for examples). The colossal onion rings would be better with panko crunchy breading, not the heavy tempura batter they use.
Knowledgeable, efficient and helpful service. Very kind restroom attendant. We will go back some day, but we frequently return to Vic & Anthony’s for steaks.
We had an amazing time..I took my fiance for a surprise Father's Day dinner and he loved it..The steak are to die for..We will definetly be back soon..Thanks
I was hesitant to visit this restaurant after reading the extremely mixed reviews, though every review complimented the service. The reviews mentioned the strange lighting and the noise level. The lighting was meant to be low with a hip vibe. It was for a bit but several times it suddenly plunged into complete darkness. It was kind of comical b/c it was also strange. The noise level is crazy loud, making conversation difficult, but I think it is to cover up the highway noise b/c the restaurant is open air. The food was good but not great for the price. There is a lot of theatrics (seafood tower w/dry ice paraded out by wait staff shining flashlights on it) and lots of elaborate food presentation, description, discussion, and so on. The restaurant itself is quite lovely inside-especially for a romantic dinner. It is a bit of a see and be seen kind of place. The service is excellent. One reviewer said it was a little like Las Vegas and I have to agree. Houston simply has too many outstanding restaurants that do not have to resort to such silly airs.
Went there for Fathers Day messed up my Wife and my steak order took both steaks back to recook when they both came out mine was messed up again I was shocked that they didn’t comp anything no apology I ended up waiting awhile for the correction by the time it was rite I had lost my appetite dropping $250 on this meal!
Great Service & Ambiance. We celebrated Father's Day & my Dad Loved it! Thanks.
This place was alright. I don't know if it's worth the prices advertised. The service was great from the people who brought out the food. Our waiter appeared to have a condescending attitude and behavior. The noise was not bad. The valet people were prompt and courteous. Overall, it's a good place to try at least once.
Great live atmosphere , with great food!
Great time sitting out on the patio!
Very nice decor. Great when money is no object.
Service was competent but rushed. We felt ripped off by seeing adders such as butter on our steaks and bacon with our side of Brussels sprouts on the bill. No mention of additional costs was given at the time of our order. These items added $44 to our bill. We spent a ton of money on the meal and do not mind spending money but this left a poor impression on the restaurant for us.
The service was amazing. Our waiter was pleasant and cracked jokes, really enlightening the evening. I didn't get the chance to thank him after our check came.
Comida excelente, servicio del mesero y capitan muy bueno, mala recepcion de las de la entrada 20 min en espera teniendo reserva
Overpriced. There are many steak house options in the city with comparable and better food choices, for a fraction of the cost. The ambiance was nice, and the food was tasty, but not worth it in my opinion.
Great! First class experience with food and service
We enjoyed our meal and our waiter William was the BEST. Loved the ambiance and the overall decor of the restaurant. I will defiantly be back and recommend to my friends.
The place is gorgeous! Love the indoor/outdoor seating! The waterfall view is perfect! Our waitress London was wonderful, as was the management that visits the table. It is very romantic at the same time as lively...good mix. The bad part, our steaks were so salty that we couldn’t eat them. The manager offered to get us new ones but we were running short on time with the babysitter. The crab gnocchi was meh...pretty dry for as creamy as it seemed to be. The broccolini was outstanding as well as the butter cake dessert!
All and all, we will go back and hope for a better steak experience ❤️
The food was not up to par. This place is really designed more for a night life experience. The FOOD WAS NOT GOOD and it seemed a bit rushed. IT is a very busy spot. I was served instant potatoes. What restaurant charges 14.00 for instant potatoes, the mac and cheese was unmemorable and the crab cakes were blahhh. I would never go back to this place and I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy. I guess we live and learn but I wanted this to be a great experience for my best friend's 39th bday..I think next year I will just stick with TRULUCK's :)
Soooo crowded, dark and way too noisy. Could not have a conversation and barely could hear the waiter. The service was impeccable, our server was Sean, and he was on point, however bringing me a cake for dessert which I did not ask for and charging me for it is not so "on point".
It was average chocolate cake at best but I would have ordered something else had I been asked what I wanted. The steak was delicious, of course it's a steakhouse, but the side of lobster mashed potatoes, their specialty at $40, missed the point altogether. No seasoning and no consistency to it, the entire bowl was left at the table, what a waste. The crowds were mostly yuppies, younger and loud; men picking up women, etc... Not my scene. Nice enough but there are far superior steakhouses to go back to.
The food was Great! The steak was amazing. The creamed spinach was very disappointing because it taste like it was made with canned spinach instead of fresh spinach. However, the loaded twice baked potato paired perfectly with the Chef's cut strip steak.
The signature butter cake was a dream come true. I absolutely loved it! The desert alone is enough for me to come back regularly.
And the live band during the week was another great aspect of our dinning experience.
Celebrating our wedding anniversary (23 years), great food and music.
I have to say one of the top places in Houston to celebrate any special day.
Thank you again
For taking care of our special day.
This was suppose to be a special dinner to celebrate our 42nd Wedding Anniversary. We were dressed nicely for the occasion. The valet folks were not there to open my door or anyone else’s. Ugh 😑 Finally a nice man came out of the restaurant to open the door for me. The first table we were directed to was in the open patio in the scorching heat of 94 degrees! I was dressed in a designer dress not shorts, which is the only attire you can wear in the scorching weather of the patio. Then we were directed to another table for two which was sooo close to a round table of 8 or more that we could hear the very loud conversations. Finally, we were seated one table down from the second where we were not privy to the next table’s conversation. Next the food was average; my steak was not medium, but I ate it and didn’t say anything to the server. The wine list was good. The dessert, a chocolate cake needed the server to assemble because it had to be layered just so. The server came by after we assembled it ourselves incorrectly of course. She just apologized and did what she could to assemble the dessert after the fact. The the clencher! The valet left our car not a clunker but a Lexus, way across the driveway NOT in front of the restaurant so I had to trek across the stone pavement in my heels! NEVER AGAIN for us; such a disappointment.
My family and I had dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse during a short retreat into town. The loud vibrant atmosphere was a welcome break from the slow suburban life style. The staff were friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. The food was beyond excellent! It’s not a cheap restaurant, but the whole atmosphere makes it a great experience.
Very impressed, and I plan on going back soon with customers.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience. The lighting is too dark. Several tables were using the flashlights on there phones to read menu. The cocktail and wine selection was the best I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed the Wagyu appetizer, but the whole cooking it myself on a hot stone, left splatter marks on my clothes. I dare to say I liked Mastro’s better than Del Frisco’s. However, it was also pricier. $500 for two people.
My friends and I are always on the look out for a good steak house - sadly we were disappointed. Way too expensive. Not to mention we arrived on time for our reservation and they didn’t have a table ready nor could they give an estimate of when we’d be seated. Our only option to eat immediately was a bar table where we had to scream to hear each other talk. The room is very dark and they have fit a large menu on to one page making it hard to read. I’m only 31 so I haven’t lost my eye sight. Finally having settled the service was nothing to rave about. We ordered a couple appetizers to share and didn’t even get to finish them because our entrees came out minutes later.
Food was fabulous; service great. We were seated in main dining area near bar, however, and the noise level is very high on a Friday evening. Don’t plan on quiet conversation.
Landry’s Select Club did not honor my points at Mastros, which I understood you could use the points at any Landry’s restaurant. I didn’t find out until after we were there, and had invited guests. The manager said it was an exclusion somewhere on the website, I’m sure in very fine print. I’m totally disgusted with establishments like Landry’s that mislead the public, and don’t do the right thing!
My wife and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary with you and requested a romantic booth in our reservation. We ended up having to sit at a table on the corner in front of the wine cellar with high traffic flow from the servers. After ordering a bottle of champagne and having a toast for the occasion we were finally moved about 30 to 40 minuets into our celebration date to a booth. Other than having to interrupt our anniversary celebration date with moving our drinks and starters to another table we enjoyed everything else. Our waiter William and the food was great. We didn’t allow the seating request mishap the opportunity to tarnish our 15th anniversary celebration at your establishment.
