Mastro's Signature Warm Butter Cake
New York Pepper Steak - 16oz
Food wasn’t hot, service was disjointed and not the normal mastros experience
Didnt like the upstairs seating area. An enclosed patio isnt outside seating. It was really stuffy up there and hot. Service was incredible as always, waiters wine selection on the bottle was on point.. Food wasnt like previous times, steak definitely lacked seasoning, it didnt have it's normal flavor and char. I'm being being picky as this is my favorite location. Add salt to the steak and open the patio cover and easy 5 star experience.
Our server wouldn’t take our order when we were ready. He said he would get our drinks first before we ordered anything else... TWICE!
We went for our anniversary, to tell you the truth it wasn't 100% worth it. The 8oz filet was super chewy and had no taste. The Tomahawk tasted just like a regular steak and was rare, we asked for medium. The salad wasn't worth $15. I think the best part was the free anniversary Cheesecake they gave us. Will never be returning here.
I hate even leaving a review like this because this truly one of my favorite restaurants for any and every occasion. It was very good outside with no heater being offered until the end of the evening, and to spend $2,000 and have to pay for complementary bread basket was such an insult, especially when other locations aren’t charging, I won’t be back until they add heaters all around the tent for outdoor dining and they take what was once complimentary bread OFF the menu....even if it’s only $2.50, that’s pretty sad !
I've been here many times and the food always was great. This time it was just average. My steak was a bit chewy, tough to cut and unseasoned (no salt and pepper at all). The brown butter cake felt like it was undercooked. Very cookie dough like. I've had it before so I know what to expect.
Great service, excellent food.
Mastro’s was overall an amazing experience! It was my boyfriends and I first time here. The service was outstanding as our servers explained the menu, recommended delicious foods, & checked up on us frequently. 10/10! Will be returning very soon!
Mastro's Steakhouse - Costa Mesa has done a wonderful job adapting to COVID-19 with a beautiful outdoor dining area up and downstairs both areas are well-appointed and nicely heated if needed.
Hostesses were not very friendly. Waiters hardly ever came over to see if we needed anything.
We’ve had better experiences at other Mastros.
The service was exceptional, the food and drinks were delicious.. it was worth it the drive. ;)
Best experience ever. Great customer service. Food was amazing. Would definitely go back.
We were seated outside the restaurant and although it's safer, it was a windy day so we were cold and the food got cold much quicker. We thought since it was windy that there would be a tent or some form of side cover since you're paying quite a bit for this high end restaurant. Food tasted great and service was pretty good but for that amount of money, I would say it was not worth it.
The seafood appetizer was delicious. The sides dishes were super tasty. Coffee and desserts were on point. Lamb was good. The steaks? Meh. Definitely not their forte. The service was professional but our busser truly enjoys his craft. Highly appreciated that they recognized our special occasion and this place is great for celebrations. For a steak dinner, I’ll go elsewhere.
Low rating for ambience, but its no one's fault for covid. Just glad to be out
Food was good, but we had heard that Mastros hands down had the absolute best steaks ever. Eh, we’ve had steaks of this quality at multiple places around town for quite a bit less. The butter cake was pretty darn great.
Main reason for the less than 5 star review... the waiter was horribly rude; he literally walked away saying that it looked like I needed more time, as I was in the middle of asking a question about the menu. We had even answered that it was our first time there. The first time this happened, we thought he just must not have heard me. Then it happened 2 more times...so he ended up ignoring my questions for recommendations for appetizers, main dish AND dessert! I was sure to speak loudly and make eye contact the 2nd and 3rd time. The guy who filled our water, brought our utensils and cleared our dishes ended up answering my menu questions for me. Plus I sat there looking up reviews from all you fine people to get menu recommendations.
We tipped the assistant royally, and gave the waiter just a mediocre amount!!!
On a positive note, we saw some very attentive waiters at other tables who happily discussed the menu. If you do go here, I hope you all get one of them and have a nice experience.
Accommodated an earlier table and gave us a free anniversary desert. Still a perfect date with outdoor seating
Staff didn't offer validation for parking and were rushed to close. Staff also did not bother to check on our table to see if our food were great. Overall, I've had better service here before.
Great food. Safety guidelines in place for Covid.
Our Server Patricia, her support team, the valet team and the host team were all amazing. Mastro's always has an incredible atmosphere, and no one goes to Mastro's because they are trying to have a budget meal. lol. The only issue was that more than one item came to the table cold, which has never happened before. It was immediately rectified. Was just surprised by that but everyone has an off day.
Food is amazing love the lobster mash potatoes
Went for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately due to circumstances we had to eat outside but we were expecting it. Was told there were heaters for each table to help keep us warm. Of course when we got there our heater was at the table in front of us. In other words the other table had 2 heaters and we had 0. After asking twice to get one of their 2 heaters moved to us they finally had someone move it 3 inches in our direction. So in other words it provided no help. When that table left then and only then did their 2nd heater get moved to our table. Overall service was the worst ever. Had to ask several times for pretzel bread. At one point we asked someone at our table while they were putting down our silverware if he could take our cocktail order in which he answered my hands r full right now. He didn’t say something like I’m not allowed/can’t but let me get someone for u etc. Worst response I’ve ever received from Mastros in my 15 years coming here. Drinks came wrong. Appetizer came wrong. It was just a constant flow of “I’m so sorry” to the point of a oblivious lack of concern if anything was done right. I understand it’s covid but it’s not the first time we’ve eaten there during this pandemic so that can’t be used an a excuse for employees blatant uncaring of quality service. So sad if this is Mastros new set of standards.
Great service as always!!
I made resevations 3-weeks prior and understood it was going to be outdoor seating in a large tent with a $50 fee up front to make the resevation. There was intense high gusty winds and we were seated outside the tent @ a exposed exterior table on the walkway. After telling the waiter our table wasnt going to work, we were informed we would have another 1-1.5 hrs for tent. I wasnt refunded my $50 for the resevation and I was charged $7 for the 10minutes that the valet had our car.
Boyfriend was planning to propose but unfortunately the seating exposed to the wind uncovered made for a poor dining experience And we had no choice but to take our meal
And bottle of wine to go.
Wonderful experience. Service was 10/10 & food was amazing as always.
had a great dinner at Mastros last night to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early. Food and service were both amazing. Due to Covid, we had to eat outside.. but it was still a really nice experience. It was chilly, but the outside heaters helped. Our server Codie was amazing. With the reccomendations, and the menu knowledge and the friendly service, Codie made our experience amazing. We ordered the porterhouse steak which we shared because it was huge, and it was cooked to perfection. And they sliced it for us. The Lobster mashed potatoes are a MUST. Sooooooo delicious. And huge portion. Can’t wait to go back!
We were totally accommodated by our hostess when we asked to change table, our service was impeccable, our waiter was outstanding and very kind
Even though we dined outside due to covid it was very nice and cozy, lighting and heaters made it very comfortable
The food was amazing!!!
Sit you in the freezing cold without substantial heaters. Our heater was put on low and only had one heater compared to other tables that had two. Asked to be moved and could not accommodate. Spending $600 for two and can’t think enough in advance how to keep your patrons warm in the elements. Manager never came over even though we asked our waitress multiple times to be moved.
Went for Valentine’s Day 2021...made a reservation..ate outside and food got cold so fast. The butter wouldn’t even melt on my steak. There were several tables under the canopy available yet they seated us on the stretch of sidewalk. I thought maybe it was every other table seating but not on that stretch. Every table was occupied. I was sitting less than 6 feet away from the person at the table behind me. More like 2 feet. Very disappointed this time around. Everything turned cold so fast.
Amazing experience, the food was DELICIOUS! Thanks again
Dinner was absolutely Delicious!! Excellent service!! But it was sooo cold, the heaters weren’t enough to keep us from shivering during dinner. Unfortunately we weren’t under an outdoor canopy, rather directly outside. Didn’t order dessert because we were beyond cold. Will return when there’s indoor seating or will make sure I reserve to be in canopied area.
It all started when we arrived 30 minutes early excited for a fancy meal. Obviously with covid things are different. We still figured being early we could get a cocktail while waiting for our reservation. After being told that the “Bar” isn’t open we continued to wait patiently for our table. After finally being seated in what I would call a wind vortex. We instantly were cold and not being warmed by one of the only 5 heaters this acclaimed restaurant could apparently afford. We instantly asked to be moved to the tent. Which they were accommodating and moved us. Now finally sitting comfortably we order a round of cocktails that we Soooo patiently waited for. After drinking the first half of our drinks we go to refill our rounds with what is left in the shakers provided. On accident my wife spills her drink; all that was offered to help with her spilled drink is a napkin. If you spill your drink at a Applebee’s they will even replace it. After the mishap with the drinks we continue to order a Caesar salad. Do not get your hopes up because a bag Cesar you get at the grocery store has more flavor and dressing than that salad. So far very disappointed we continue on. Entree time! We order the Japanese wagu and a pork chop. The wagu really was amazing! The pork chop was good. But are sides were a joke. The server explained the gorgonzola Mac and cheese as a multi cheese delicious dish and what we got was noodles in a cheesy WATER sauce with crusted cheese along with a bland garlic mash. After sending back the Mac and cheese because it was inedible. Not finished my wife put some of her steak on my plate to wrap together. (We later find out probably a $25 saved pice of wagu thrown out not wrapped with our leftovers.) Not done there we still have hope and go for a butter cake which again disappointed. Overall bad experience for over a $500 dinner. I have traveled and eaten all over the world and I could have payed $100 and had a better experience. Would not go back!
It was great, waited a couple minutes to be seated to that’s normal. Service was great and fast! Food amazing like always.
I’m weak for that Lobster Mac. First time at this location and I will def come back here.
Do yourself a favor and get the seafood tower! You’ll love it
The food overall was good, but VERY expensive. Our bill was nearly $700 after tip. The cocktail that I got was sub-par. For such a high end restaurant, you would expect everything to be stellar. The service was poor. Our server was slow and inattentive. He was just resting on the laurels that he would get a big tip from the hefty bill. With so many high end restaurants in the OC, Mastro’s in Costa Mesa may not be your best choice.
My salad had yellow lettuce and was very disappointing. All of the sides lacked flavor. The steak was delicious and the drinks we really good! Not what I expected for a steakhouse.
Amazing. Nothing less.
The more I eat at Mastro's the less I enjoy it. I have come to the conclusion that it is not worth it. The whole idea of the restaurant is outdated and needs refreshing. The menu lacks creativity and frankly the food is average at best. The fact that a steak is then twice as expensive, if not more, than the average makes no sense. I would still recommend it for special occasions because of the idea of it, but not for the food.
