Our server was Patrick, and he was great. Very attentive and the food was superb.
Love this restaurant. The bar is a must do first. Two excellent musicians, marvelously talented bartenders They even had a rare Texas bourbon that is hard to find. Restaurant staff is friendly, knowledgeable without being cloying. One of the best wine lists in the OC and while they have wines that are rare and expensive, there are dozens of top wines at reasonable prices. Oh and the steaks and menu in general is as good as any top US Steakhouse.
It was dark, loud and the waiter forgot to bring our food until we flagged him down. Management was good about it and gave us a credit without us asking for anything.
Always a great experience...
Visited for my wife’s birthday and couldn’t have been more pleased that we did! Our server, Amodeo, was friendly, knowledgeable, and a huge key to the wonderful experience we had! We loved the food and the atmosphere, hope we can visit again soon!
The waiter was nice, the food came out at a perfect time. Everything went great.
We got to Mastro’s 30 mins early and they were able to accommodate us with a table. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We ordered, the food cake after about 20-30 minutes. However, they have forgotten our appetizer which ended up coming after our entree was already eaten and we were so full (they comped it). We ended up just sending it back and maybe they can give it to another table who actually ordered and paid for it. Our server was shocked that we didn’t want the comped food, but we said we might not even eat it because we were so full. Then for dessert, he told us not to worry about it and got us 2 big desserts for our anniversary that he comped again. We didn’t ask for anything to be comped by he just did it, and we still gave him the tip based on what he would have gotten if he didn’t comped us and more. Love the food and the service.
Shrimp poorly prepared
Great food and great service!
We asked what was in the chopped salad, and the waiter said blue cheese. Boyfriend says ok not that salad, I hate blue cheese. So the waiter says ok, no problem, we can leave the blue cheese out. We agreed ... of course the salad arrives loaded with blue cheese. We ordered shrimp cocktail which never came. Also we ordered the truffle and crab gnocchi which was full of large pieces of crab shell. Both my boyfriend and I got large pieces of crab shell when trying to eat it. They comped a bunch of our food and I still feel like we paid too much for what we got. The tiny steak I had was very good, what there was of it, as was the lemon drop cocktail. Overall kind of a bummer since it was my birthday. They seem to concentrate on large tables with a bigger bill. Since it was just the two of us I felt like we were largely ignored or neglected. I would not go back again and try and have a romantic night. It was mostly just stressful and annoying.
Mark Kim our server was outstanding and he has impeccable manners and customer service skills. Every aspect of our dining experience was perfectly executed by our server coupled with great attention to detail from keep wine glasses full to the timely support staff who brought anything we asked for so quickly. Gracious service from everybody! Perfect anniversary dinner and wine! Thank you
I really enjoyed the food and the service was great. The only negative thing I would say is thay the tables are too close together, there is very little room between them and you can hear other tables conversations and the space feels tight. Other than that, everything else was great!
Birthday celebration, it was wonderful. Our waiter was a bit soft spoken and they had live music playing so he was a tad hard to hear. Other than that, excellent!
Mastro’s has and always be my go to Steak House. I love how it’s vibrant positive vibes definitely kid friendly and overall the noise level, maybe to some is overbearing to me however I love that once you enter in I feel the energy and positive vibes all around. The food has and always will be exceptional. You cannot please some but I am not some I think I am the majority when I am speaking. My wife and I have been coming to Masteos since 2005 a few times a year however since I am a family person once our kids were born we came not as often however we did come alone. I was on a date with my kids like I usually do Family night and we do go to other high end restaurants with our family however I made it certain that my 6 and 7 year old experience this and my wife was against it but I proved her otherwise it was hands down the best experience ever I had at Mastros. We sat upstairs a few times with Valentine dinner or bdays with a group but this experience when my son looked at me and did not even touch the Fries becasue he commented and said this Steak is Awesome Daddy it better than these fries and went straight for the steak on the plate that I had ordered for my daughter and him to split and I knew that we could take them, early reservations of course becasue my wife and I wanted to be respectful if there were those that wanted to enjoy a meal, and this is the go to place. Thank you Mastros we have and always will be Mastro lovers and you sure made a winner when I know my Son loves it. Thank you
We enjoyed our time here celebrating our wedding anniversary. Delicious food, servers are courteous and attentive to diners need.
Very hip vibe, valet parking only, with that beign said, they have the best steaks in the area. Price is on par with the other high end steak houses.
We made an early reservation for a birthday but when we got there they sat us in the back table with our backs to the exit with very tight room when there were other empty tables around. They did reassigned us to a different table but left us with unpleasant impression.
Our first time trying this restaurant. I had requested a quiet table, but soon realized there was no such thing. It was about 7:15 and we were seated in the center of a long line of tables. My husband couldn't hear a word I said. When they brought the menus I realized that was going to be a problem too as the font was very small to accommodate the multitudes of diverse menu items. It was too dark to read the menu even for my daughter with very young eyes.
I broke out my cell phone flashlight to scope out the steaks. There were lots to choose from. Everything was Ala Carte and we learned the sides were large enough to feed 2 or 3 people so we ordered garlic mashed, cream corn and creamed spinach to go with our filets.
The pinot noir the waiter recommended was from the Willamette Valley, but was very light and tasted watered down. No flavor to speak of. So he graciously brought a nice cabernet to try which was much better.
To start we ordered wedge salads which is my favorite salad. Sorry to say it was a disappointment. The bacon on it was so overpowering and instead of being crispy was rubbery. It tasted like it had a very strong hickory flavor. I also missed the red onion which is usually on this type of salad. The steaks came and we shared the sides. All in all I can say the steak was tender and cooked medium rare as I like, but there was little to no seasoning on anything. The garlic mashed were meh as were the other sides. We all agreed it was a big disappointment food wise. Sorry to say there are much better steak restaurants around town. On a side note, they asked if it was a special occasion and we had indicated it was my birthday, yet nothing special was done to make it more celebratory (other than the waiter did say Happy Birthday). That was a first for me. Not even a scoop of ice cream with a candle. I would not go there again.
We had been told Mastro's at SC Plaza was way less noisy and more elegant dining than Ocean club in Newport Beach...so we decided to try it to celebrate a very special occasion. I requested a quiet spot so we might actually be able to converse during our dinner. We were taken, after a 15 minute wait (our reservation was early and the restaurant not yet crowded - and our table apparently still wasn't available...we were not asked to wait in the bar, but just stood at the desk, no place to sit, not friendly greeters) at what was, probably, the quietest spot in the restaurant. We were seated next to a large party with 3 small children, complete with computer and other devices ON the table to entertain them. It gradually, over the next 30 minutes, became very noisy and similar to Ocean Club. The service was fine, the food was OK (but my husband remarked his steak was not nearly as good as one he had recently had at Club 33 in Disneyland) and the waiter did bring an appropriate dessert for the special occasion. For the money, I would say...not worth it. There are many great steakhouses around, and I am still searching for one that truly provides an elegant, fine-dining experience. Mastro's falls short.
Ordered the shrimp cocktail and oysters Rockfeller for appetizers. Shrimp was huge and delicious! Oysters were just good, not as special. The steak was some of the best steak I’ve ever had! Lobster mac & cheese was amazing too. Nice touch with bringing the chocolate cake for my friend’s birthday. Oh and wine was delicious. Quite a wine list. Great restaurant for a special occasion. Expensive, but worth it.
Amazing service and food. Place is very clean and ambiance is nice.
it was very dark inside. but overall ambiance was nice
Celebrating our anniversary
Celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary at Mastro's in Costa Mesa this past weekend. The sevice and ambiance were simply outstanding...the live entertain, Piano Bar, was a nice touch; and the food was just amazing!
I have dined at this Mastero's a couple other times and had great service and enjoyed my time dining at this establishment. However, this last visit was a disappointment as we had to wait 20 minutes from our reservation time to be seated. Our friends that we had brought here to celebrate her and her husbands birthday was 8 months pregnant and no seating was available. We did find a chair for her to sit in but was shortly told that the chair could not be placed in the area we were standing and asked us to move the chair in the corner in front of the elevator. Since there were people entering and exiting the elevator, she decided it was an inconvenience and decided to stand. Then, we were seated in the bar area in the booth directly next to the pianist. At first it was not a big deal as the band was on break, but once the band started up we found ourselves screaming across the table if not directly in each others ear. We did not want to say anything since we had already settled in and were afraid that we would have had to wait another 20 minutes for another table. We all eventually wanted to hurry and eat and leave.
Also, in the past I had always had the server go over the menu and mention any items that may not have been on the menu. This time, we did not have this and later found out that there were prawns that we wish we had known about.
Overall, our visit this time was not the greatest experience and wished it had been better as it was our friend's first time at Mastero's and I had spoke so highly of the establishment for them to be let down with such a bad experience.
As always, a fantastic dinner. Had a dirty spoon with my soup and a dirty plate with desert but they were EXTREMELY busy and can’t complain. Things happen.
It was our grown daughter’s birthday . We spent 2 hours in the rain and traffic , but it was worth it.
Our Italian waiter, Amadeo, was fabulous !
Food great, service, our table was a little too dark; couldn’t read menu or see.
We thought it was great besides that.
My first visit here - the service was first class from the valets to the seating hostess to the servers and bus people. A manager came by frequently. We felt very cared for. The food was outstanding - steak, lobster mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach. Wine was excellent. We received a birthday cake for our celebrated friend! I received a call the next day thanking me for dining there....wow!
Exquisite food and service as always. Mastros never disappoints.
Everything was great! Unfortunately we reserved our table for 8:45 but were seated at 9:35...but everything else was fantastic!
Just a quick bite before Segerstrom
Fabulous as usually. This is the kids and my go to restaurant for special occasions.
Celebrated my son’s 18th Birthday dinner... This is my son’s favorite restaurant and once again everything was amazing. Our service was great, the music in the bar was great to listen to during dinner. The food like always was the best. Thank you for making the night perfect once again for my family...
Good food but really overpriced according to my standards.
Made a reservation for a 15 person business dinner. So I had to make special arrangements. We were held to a $1500 min + 17% gratuity (actually spent +$5000). The special event coordinator found it fitting to put my group at a table that was in the back of the restaurant, in a hall, between the waiter staging area and the bar. Both areas separated by tacky red velvet curtains, that were constantly being opened and closed by staff using our dining area as a thoroughfare. Very disappointing!
Service was slow and the butter cake was burnt.
Great food! Too dim. I couldn’t read the menu. Maybe it was the location of our table.
Impeccable service and food. Love this restaurant
Food and Service were outstanding! Location close to theatre make it an ideal post-theatre get together location.
